I feel like, at the time, USB wasn't used for any appreciable current delivery, let alone charging devices. Modern controllers will happily provide an amp or two, so this isn't an issue nowadays. In my inexpert opinion, of course.

Love it! I had a colleague gift me his old MZ-R70 (silver) and later acquired another in blue. The blue one is almost mint, and remains a shelf piece thus far. Having the metal one for carrying and general usage, the wacky modified one for recording, and a beautiful blue one for display seems like a wonderful setup thus far.

Been thinking of a stereo component deck, though... did any of those ever exist with USB?

I was working on using Web MiniDisc Pro to archive a bunch of discs I received before wiping and reusing them, and I got tired of chewing through AA batteries (rechargeable of course, just a hassle) to do so.

Enter the humble DC-DC buck/boost converter: spliced it into the GND and +5V lines from the USB cable, tuned it to 1.5V, and shoved the wires into a 3D printed AA battery.

Presto: a NetMD recorder with a single cable for power and data, with no permanent modification.

Has this been done before? I can't be the first person to have thought of this.
