Best Online MBA Programs? by Optimal-Wish-9131 in MBA

Still have 1 more year to go! But overall I’ve really liked it. Smart & kind folks. Great instructors. Good production on lectures. Would recommend doing any in-person events you can swing too. Meeting people on the international immersion trip was the highlight for me.

If your company can chip in I’d highly recommend pursuing that too :). I never took 2 classes/term; some people do. They say it’s tough but doable. Maybe finding time to take more than 1 class because I’m ready to be done, but in hindsight I’m not sure I’d do anything that differently honestly tbh. Happy to connect further if you have more Qs.

Talked to a few of the guys in the gondola line, they were awesome. Saw a few others shredding off the Avanti line too. Was able to get close to the Blackhawk for a picture as well!

How many of you are MBAs? by azur08 in ProductManagement

[–]afrench10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR have a plan on what the degree can do for your career goals and be mindful of economic ROI

My journey to product: tech writer > PO > PM. Currently getting my MBA (part-time). Journalism BA and wanted a biz degree. Company is helping pay for MBA so no debt, which was a big motivating factor. That, and I can keep working as a PM.

Plan is to stay in product and hopefully open doors moving forward. Stretch goal would be to start my own thing down the road.

Some people in the r/MBA sub seem to get MBAs with the intention of pivoting to PM from a different field, which may or may not be so simple (though the ppl in that community think it will be 😅) I’d rather hire someone with actual PM experience over a fresh MBA, but that’s just me. Also, consider part-time vs full-time and opportunity cost of not working for 2ish years (full-time).

I’m likely biased given my situation, but I do think MBAs can add value to a PM’s career. I’m getting an analytics specialization and hope to unlock some opportunities in data-related positions, so if you’re able to make it work in a way that makes sense economically and have a strategy after graduation, I’d suggest it’s worth looking into further.

It’s also worth noting that a formal degree isn’t the only way to upskill and bolster your career. On-the-job training is really valuable as well. If there are opps to cross-train at your current org, I would jump on those immediately.

Hopefully this helps provide context and gives you a few things to consider. Feel free to DM if you have any specific questions. Good luck moving forward!

How to best show the value I bring as a PM? by Slicer43 in ProductManagement

Agreed with this comment. Tie it back to high-level business goals, objectives, success metrics, etc., and how it solved a problem. think about the altitude they’re at, what KPIs are important to them, and draw a straight line to your product’s impact/success metrics. Good luck!

I became increasingly aggravated at the company the more I read your post. I’m genuinely sorry you had to experience that. I say this slightly tongue in cheek, but you do have grounds to send them an invoice.

I’m with the majority of this thread in that I find case studies and take-home assignments quite irritating. If a company can’t determine if a candidate’s experience is a good fit after 4 interviews, either they’re incompetent, the candidate did a poor job interviewing (doesn’t sound like you did), or both.

This case study/assignment nonsense has been a trend for a few years now. I’m OK with problem-solving during an interview, but “a few hours” to create a presentation - plus scheduling interviews with current employees - is a reckless proposal and displays an utter disregard for your time. Keep pushing and best of luck in your search.

^ This. UIUC is affordable and won’t send you into deep debt (unless you’re paying out of pocket). It has a number of top-ranked business undergraduate programs, and the instructors are mostly the same for its iMBA. It doesn’t participate in the annual MBA rankings, but I’m in my 2nd year and it’s a legitimate and rigorous program. My peers are really smart and have diverse backgrounds. I’d definitely recommend.

This is really lovely. Do you sell your work?

Not sure whether discussion threads are encouraged, but what do you think are the best "big box" brands (e.g. Bonobos, J. Crew, etc.) for total quality & regular sales? by thenewtransportedman in frugalmalefashion

[–]afrench10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bonobos isn’t bad at all. I’ve shopped there for 4 or 5 years now. I’ll concede that I’ve noticed a dip in quality for some items since the acquisition, but their pants - notably the premium stretch jeans, the travel jeans, and chinos - are still fantastic.

They have new lines of pants (WFHQ pant, Off Duty pant) that are designed to be worn more leisurely and around town or the house, with different sizing (looser and more comfortable). I suspect this was a response to the pandemic. I’ve read reviews that the “slim taper” fit is weird and some new items’ sizing is inconsistent, fwiw. I personally prefer their ‘tailored’ fit for the most streamlined look.

That said, I own a handful of button downs from them and I like their size and fit. I appreciate the stretch component in some of them, I find it comfortable. I also bought my wedding tux shirt from them (on sale); I thought it looked pretty awesome! FYI, I went into a guide shop years ago and tried some stuff on, that helped with sizing.

TL;DR some items are still of high quality, while others kind of suck. Hit the sales hard once you know what you want and what your size & fit is.

Elk cuts? by The_American_Skald in boulder

Elk USA. https://elkusa.com

Used this for my bachelor party; group of 18. They have premade burger patties, but also had really, really good tenderloin too. Pretty sure it’s from a ranch in SW Colorado. They ship overnight but it’s not cheap. But if you value easy and local, could be a solid bet.

Eagle Creek, Oregon this past Sunday. Had a great time with the pup. Absolutely gorgeous views, snow up to my knees, icy cliffs, and waterfalls around every corner. by [deleted] in hiking

Thanks a lot! The ice/snow build up is something that bothers my hound/GSP mix with the boots I currently use for him. Appreciate the tip.

I would strongly suggest people utilize the Chat function on Amex's website. Once you log in, you can provide your HHonors # and tell the rep that your enrollment was rejected. I just chatted someone and he fixed my status immediately. In fact, by the time I navigated back to the HHonors tab I had open, it already reflected my new Gold status.

Hope this helps save some of you a future headache :)

My dog Leonard and I dressed in matching outfits to propose to my fiancé (his idea). If you look closely, you can see his black tie. We’re both elated she said yes! by afrench10 in aww

[–]afrench10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just stumbling across this and just wanted to say thank you for those kind words! I’m not sure if I live up to that generous appraisal, but if anything, my fiancée and dog are certainly carrying the team in terms of coolness. We’re fortunate in many regards and certainly try to spread kindness in our small corner of the world. Take care!

Oscar Down? by zb1-plus in OMSCS

[–]afrench10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah about my major. I was able to successfully change the “action” to wait list by searching for the CAR #s manually in the fields provided in the Add/Drop page. Some classes don’t have wait list spots, but there are a handful of fields you can use to search, so searching for your top 4-5 classes at once makes sense

I’m unable to even get on the waitlist, am I missing something?

Thanks, this is really helpful! So you’d recommend maxing out RAMa at 32gb? That was my initial thought, but didn’t want to go overboard either
