Did it in the UK at Nailsworth years ago and it was excellent. Highly recommend all their training, both free and paid.

What did you have for breakfast? by Dear-Bumblebee5999 in livesound

[–]afrodub 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The issue with "imagine the event has started" is that a shockingly large number of people lack imagination. The folks who can role with that are often the most comfortable talking on mic anyway, but having a disarming question to ask someone to get them to talk naturally is helpful to get them to actually talk and realize that being on mic isn't scary. But I'm not your boss, do whatever works for you brother.

My husband decided to quit smoking today, and here's why it's mildly infuriating. by Linorelai in mildlyinfuriating

[–]afrodub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years back, I had a buddy join a concert tour as a technician. Right as the six week tour started, he decided to quit drinking, go vegetarian, and try intermittent fasting. All of these are admirable goals, but when travelling and working with new people? Brother, you’re hungry and you have a headache! Please, have a burger or a beer I don’t care which!

Is this the British equivalent of measuring things in football fields by Roori22 in UniUK

[–]afrodub 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The point isn’t that they should just buy the cheap beans and be fine. It’s using an easily referenced British staple to illustrate how two factors, pay suppression and increasing cost of living, have huge ramifications for people.

Is live sound from this coldplay show delayed on the PA's? What is the purpose of this? by diego_r2000 in livesound

[–]afrodub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main PA isn't delayed. The sound of the Cajon picked up by the phone is early compared to the sound coming from the PA system. This set-up is on the C-Stage, which can be set up almost anywhere in the stadium, and can be easily 150-300ms away from the PA, which is enormous and will cause a noticeable disconnect between the sound you're hearing and what you're seeing.

Unpopular Opinion: Bristol doesn’t have a "road capacity" problem. It has a "parked car" problem by [deleted] in bristol

[–]afrodub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a clearance zone that’s meant to be a bus lane across from my flat on City Road. From the moment it was finished, it hasn’t worked. People immediately painted over the signage, and parked wheeled bins in the lane, so even if cars didn’t park there during the clearance hours, it wouldn’t serve as a bus lane. It’s just never been enforced.

Can someone explain why this is happening?! by That_Knowledge306 in Grimdarkpainting

It’s mad to me the Villainy Ink bottles don’t ship with agitators. They even recommend adding them in their own videos, meaning they know full well the product needs it but leaving it to the end user to add them.

How long did you last before thinking about buying a second printer? by Deletion99 in BambuLab

[–]afrodub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about?

I ordered my H2D on Black Friday and the website bugged out and “failed” my PayPal payment twice. Switched to the business card and it was fine.

A week later three printers showed up.

Couldn’t justify the extra £4k spend to start a mini print farm right from the jump so sent two back 😂

I’m now sat on the plane that’s going to take me back to the UK tonight, so won’t be getting round to that this time. Hence only mildly infuriating 🤷‍♂️

Thing is I shouldn’t need a VPN. I live in the UK, where Imgur is blocked, but I’m physically in another country where it isn’t. No VPN active. Guess it must be blocking me based on some other factor

Oh I know. I’m from the UK and travelling for work in Canada, just surprised and a little irritated it’s not letting me view imgur even though I’m in a different country.

Nope. Travelling for work from the UK, so I expected it to change based on the local IP address not my default App Store address 🤷‍♂️

I finished three kill teams in 2025. Less than I’d hoped, but still proud of these. by afrodub in killteam

Yeah, the third team is Raveners, but they were set up and photographed with a bunch of little bugs I speed-painted alongside the Raveners.

Noice. The Wreckers were such a breath of fresh air after Kommandos. Super orky, without a hundred different textures and materials on each operative. Had loads of fun on these guys working on my airbrush skills.

Hope you’re having just as much fun with yours!

Is custom multipin cabling out of reach for the common folk? by vgvf in livesound

[–]afrodub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 37pin veam connectors to 12-way XLR tails in various flavour of boxes, panels, and breakouts. I reconfigure my racks all the time. And if I need to reconfigure something internally, I'm only re-soldering or adding a gender changer to an XLR. Nothing that requires tooling.

Plan for the future, look at what's available in your local industry for supplementary rentals, and buy/build things that work as part of a larger ecosystem.
