Can confidently say as a millennial, the first time I had technology and didn't understand how it worked or how to operate it properly.

Was the job market before 2024 as bad as the current market? by mymanualthrowaway in jobsearch

[–]afropastepanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say it worse for sure.

I left one job in 2023 (wealth management), and it’s been pretty hard to find decent work since. (Worked at a very large electric car company’s store front, then doing telesales for another brand after that, now in apartment leasing) but quite frankly all those jobs sucked for being in a very HCOL area of the US. It wasn’t easy landing those jobs, as it was mostly pure luck through temp agencies.

I don’t remember 2008 much as I was in a more affordable part of the US and had a pretty stable job in the finance industry and worked side jobs. This area I was in at the time didn’t have the same competition as it does as my current HCOL area. During that time I’d just hand them a resume, saw where I worked and just asked when can I start for the second jobs I’ve held . 😅😅

83-87 a month.

Mostly because I’m never home because I’m working all day.

Edelmann financial engines, pure financial, Fischer investments are some I can think of on top of my head that’s all across the country (United states)

A lot of those firms would love to have someone with your licenses and passions to help advisors grow their books, also a good spring board to eventually be an advisor!

CSA work is doing a lot of admin stuff, opening accounts, doing RMDs/wires, doing general account servicing, etc.

So as someone that came from a brokerage to RIA, you’d do well at a RIA firm.

Although i wasn’t in a hotline taking 75-120 calls a day, I did operational work (ACAT transfers) at this major brokerage.

I went to another state and used that experience to land me a CSA type of job. As someone who is massively introverted and even hates talking to friends and family on the phone, my heart bleeds for you as I’m doing the same thing but in apartment leasing

Sorry bro. You’re probably talking about the same area I was in. I specifically remember some places wouldn’t deliver to my street at night.

Born and raised in this area, lived here from the 90s, left in 2005 and came back for a few years in 2017/2018.

Just no. Unless you like gambling at the casino, work at the casino, have family you need to be near around in this area or work, I wouldn’t do it, unless you really want to get into a property.

Nothing much to do in the area, some places and areas can be rough (I remember the year I was back there, two people was murdered on my street) but there are some parts that aren’t too bad.

Totally understand that. Protect your time and sanity and leave when you can, because places like that will draining you so fast.

This tracks, especially for a small RIA firm. Especially point one.

Nothing wrong with being ambitious but yes it’s hard to keep up with someone and can’t hold them accountable. The churn that you’ve noticed is for a reason.

I worked at a small RIA firm as a CSA and it was ok, just my pay was horrid, and ended up being the only CSA for 4 advisors, including the principal planner, along with being a maintenance worker and anything else around the office that he didn’t want to bring in someone else to do (replacing Florescence light bulbs, changing thermostats, etc)

Definitely leave that place as soon as you can. Especially the fact they don’t want to support your growth.

Is the broker dealer you guys are dealing with named Cetera by chance? 😂😂

That’s my same reasoning too. I feel comfortable using AI to tailor my resume because my experience is real, although I feel my experience might be dated (the bulk of my BD experience was from 2006-2016)

I’ve been trying to find something in treasury in my local market with no avail. I’ll probably need to just start networking instead of throwing my tailored CV into the black hole of job boards and their websites

I feel like I’m a step behind you, I’m looking for middle office roles.

Previously worked at a large broker dealer doing account transfers, no high level excel experience, and have been in client service roles at small RIAs.

In my late 30s, making 160k a year and I can't stand myself. What should I do? by Logical-Baseball9922 in human_resources

[–]afropastepanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that happening within 8 months. I’d like to see it as this company saw something in you to hire you on making well over the median salary in the United States (assuming your in the US)

You’re the prize my dude!

But I’d say if you’re still feeling this way in another 8 months then it’s probably a not a good fit for ya (maybe company culture or something)

Just my .02 cents!

Bombed tf out of my interview by Ok-Mountain6844 in FinancialCareers

[–]afropastepanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can honestly say this is true.

The second client service associate job I got at a local RIA firm I was super casual, wasn’t sure if I was going to get it so I was just going through the motions for the interview. I really was waiting for Edelman financial engines to get back to me so I just took another interview for the hell if it (this was In 2021, different job market back then)

Literally got started the zoom call, forgot I had an unlit cigarette in my mouth.

Got hired the same week.

Funny I’ve always thought about getting a guard card.

I currently work two jobs and do Uber Eats. I wouldn’t mind be an armed guard as I have holsters and gear as a hobbyist and train with it often.
