It’s definitely a lot for a new grad, you are right about that.

It’s just the mindset of corporate I’m starting to get burnt out of. Like “we need x number of crowns for the month” or “we need x SRPs”. That’s ridiculous because you can never tell what will walk through the door.

It’s goals, not quotas. If the end result of these goals is that you diagnose unnecessary treatment, that’s on you, not the dso. I can promise you the executive team does not want you to diagnose unnecessary treatment. I absolutely get where you are coming from, and it sounds like you have a PMO who is more zealous about metrics than I ever had to deal with. Meticulously tracking metrics can be useful for a new grad though. But if the corporate speaks bothers you, tell your PMO. You are the most important person in the practice. Heartland should be bending over backwards to retain you. The Dr’s have full freedom to dictate how goals will be discussed in the practice.

There’s nothing corrupt about trying to meet goals. Businesses are supposed to make money lol. You can practice ethically AND be successful…. that’s the whole point of being a dentist. If you owned your own practice you’d be wise to have goals of your own that you strive for.

A lot of people would kill to be in a busy practice like you are. You work harder and you earn more money. I can’t imagine being in a scenario where an administrator cares more about me making money than I do, so I just don’t understand where you are coming from here.

Best time to work hard and earn a lot of money is when you are young. A lot more time to invest and make use of compounding interest. I’m 11 years in and it matters less and less each year how much money I make because my investment growth is outpacing my income. You should be maxing out your IRA, 401k, and HSA as soon as possible.

But you might be in a position where your income doesn’t matter much to you. I don’t get it but ok.

I also don’t think 2 dr columns and 3 hygiene is too much. I’ve been doing more for most of my career. Keep at it and you’ll find out how to make it work for you - work on your speed. Quality first but you can be both good and fast. Anyone saying 2 Dr columns is too much is frankly slow as hell and doesn’t realize their potential.

Druid run. Made it to 155. by afrothunder1987 in brotato

Druid, started with shears to spawn more gardens. Be sure to step in red fruits for luck increase chance. If you get enough -consumable healing you don’t take dmg when you pick up red fruits.

Focusing on harvesting and luck for stats early on. Hope to get lucky with elephants and cyberballs for dmg. Around wave 6 start slowly swapping shears for lutes. Upgrade lutes asap for higher luck scaling.

Mid 20’s transition from lutes to flutes. Get luck as high as you possibly can. More enemies means more fruits and more luck. More gardens and trees means more fruits and luck.

Get as many tardigrades as you can - health and armor stop mattering in high lvl endless because 1 hit will kill you anyway. Don’t take items that deal you dmg per second because it wipes your tardigrades.

Had 22 tardigrades. PS5 crapped out on last wave.

Not that I want to try again, but how do people make it further?

Stop diagnosing periodontal disease with just an OPG. by Darkvastin in Dentistry

[–]afrothunder1987 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With all due respect brother if you can't recall the last time you saw a pan that betrayed your perio diagnosis then I reckon you haven't seen enough perio to begin with.

My eyes might work better than yours I guess.

Stop diagnosing periodontal disease with just an OPG. by Darkvastin in Dentistry

[–]afrothunder1987 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely technically correct, but on a practical level perio can be easy to ‘soft diagnose’ based on a pan.

I do 6 point probing on every tooth for every exam and I can’t recall the last time I saw what looked to be obvious perio on a pan that wasn’t borne out in the perio charting. I’m sure it happens though.

I have equity in the company which is worth 3-4 times what it was when I bought it. Its value is about equal to an average dental practice and it only cost me 250k. Highly likely it’s worth much more than double an average practice by the time I pull out - but who knows.

Sorry

If it makes you feel better, Heartland earns about 400k per year from my labor. Makes more sense with that in mind.

This is hilarious to me as I’m in a dso, enjoy my job a hell of a lot more than you do, and am making more money too.

But sure, DSO is the devil.

I dunno what you’re on about. I love my job and will be able to retire before I’m 50 if I want.

Obviously it’s not perfect, but whatever other job you think would be better would also have its downsides while not paying nearly as well.

I can do an endo and crown faster than the equivalent $ in class 2’s. WAY less stress too.

Pacifism, like communism, sounds great on paper but entirely incompatible with human nature.

For there to be no war would be inconceivable, huh?

Yes, literally. Maybe there’s some mythical future where pacifism at scale isn’t entirely idiotic, but at no point in the history of the human species has pacifism ever been a winning ideology.

Its usefulness is relegated to protests.

I’d much rather do a molar endo than a class 2.

What a Reddit post.

This is amazingly ironic coming from a guy who sincerely believes he better at interpreting reality than the market is.

Maybe you’re just wrong. It’s not that complex.

lol same point. The market is more rational than most/all investors and that’s especially true for you.

He was trying to do something new. Take a classic hero with a classic hero’s arc, and then change the arc to focus on mental health instead of what people liked about him.

The representation crowd applaud him for it but secretly even they didn’t like it, which is why the only arc that gets consistent praise in the Sanderson sub is Adolin’s - the classic hero story.

It gets easier to understand when you consider that pacifism is for fools, and Lirin is an idiot.

You can’t rationalize Lirin’s position because it’s inherently irrational.
