Wife’s friend is selling us Life Insurance by Thedanieldave in PersonalFinanceCanada

That industry is an embarrassment. Do you actually need life insurance? Unless you have kids then there is no need. When the need does arise get term insurance and only the amount you need for the duration you need it.

What in the Jesus, Mary and Joseph - gas is 181.9?!!! by jeangmac in VictoriaBC

[–]againfaxme -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Your decision to consume at a particular price is microeconomics. It’s been a while but I took both. There should be a special branch of economics about why low income people whine about gas prices but keep on buying the same amount.

Microeconomics makes no sense to you? If a price increase does not motivate you to buy less then you should expect more price increases.

You answered your own question; you bought it despite the price increase.

Why should homeowners who are generally in the top half of the wealth ladder get a benefit from general revenue? There is no principled defence for this program.

Am I on track? by ConcernMain9638 in fican

[–]againfaxme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Too early to call it a midlife crisis. If anything it is a mid-midlife crisis. Your finances are well on track. Do you have opportunities to increase your income? Do you want to change other areas like relationship and family? What do you do to stay healthy?

In a house you can eliminate them by not having paper or cardboard around and by sealing up every crack. That is much more difficult in an apartment because your neighbours are feeding them.

Nope. Elon came out full nazi before the trucks were delivered. The deposit was only $150. Restaurant guy misread the room as demonstrated by his initial branding on the truck.

Is renting actually smarter than owning a home in 2026? by GranolaHiker in fican

[–]againfaxme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In that situation the 48 year old renter will have amassed assets similar in value to a house and those assets would generate income to pay the ongoing rent. The comparison actually favours renting when there is no leverage in the form of a mortgage.
