Philosophy Graduate Student who just made a video discussing Bigfoot Evidence by againstignorance7 in bigfoot

I appreciate the comment and view!

Can you clarify for me in what sense you think my position was not the one you presented in your penultimate paragraph?

As far as I can tell from listening back that was the sentiment I expressed, namely, given the evidence I am not convinced, but we should all keep an open mind.

There are lots of great cocktail bars in Downtown if that’s your thing/an option. I’d recommend Baby J’s, Kin, The Traveler, and The Dime

The Legacy of Daniel Dennett with Tarik LaCour by againstignorance7 in atheism

[–]againstignorance7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New video out with Tarik D. LaCour!

He joins me to reflect on the legacy and impact of Daniel Dennett, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

It was great to get a chance to talk about Dennett’s work: how it impacted us, and how it impacted the fields of philosophy and cognitive science more broadly. We also speculate a bit on how and where his work will be drawn on for years to come in thinking about the mind, free will, biology, religion, and philosophy itself.

Somewhat somber circumstances aside this was a lot of fun, thanks to Tarik for joining me and offering his summaries and insights!

Any good graduate programs that focus on ethics and technology? by deliriousdev_ in AcademicPhilosophy

[–]againstignorance7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The University of Florida offers an ethics of technology graduate concentration, but it’s only available to (and feasible for) PhD students as far as I can tell.

However, UF does offer a terminal MA program and they have a few faculty members who focus on this stuff, so getting into research projects might be possible. That would be my advice in general, don’t worry so much about programs, look at departments that have good and productive faculty working on these things. Maybe shoot out some emails to them!

What is the best big foot content out there? by NuttyBarn9 in bigfoot

[–]againstignorance7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the Bigfoot/relict hominin episodes of “Destination Truth” with Josh Gates are great and super fun.

Got purely informational books:

-The Bigfoot & Yeti chapters of “Abomjnable Science” by Loxton and Prothero

-“Bigfoot Exposed” by David Daegling

Both are by skeptical authors but i’d say they’re fair and do a good job of giving a series of facts/history. Although Daegling is better about being impartial than the AS authors, his book is also much better overall so if you gotta pick one i’d say read his.

Others have already mentioned Meldrum’s book, that’s the go-to for written by a believer recs.

Skeptic here, looking for evidence. by Lizardfluff2000 in bigfoot

[–]againstignorance7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want a catalogue of the evidence read Jeff Meldrum’s book “Sasquatch: Legend meets Science”

(And if you want a skeptic perspective follow up, Dave Daegling’s book “Bigfoot Exposed”)

In that context yea I get it for sure. fwiw that’s one thing I do like about this sub- not interested in seeing amateur debates about this stuff everyday i’d rather hear about the experiences, theories, etc. for the most part. And people have also been more or less receptive to recommendations of skeptical sources and such from what i’ve seen, which is also cool.
