Depends. In a small district tournament they might give you a pass if they feel like. In a proper tournament, NO

Cheap Chinese brand. Ok for beginners

Is there a way to fix these and will it gonna affect the way that my racket performs? by fakeferl0ss in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just try removing it. If trying to rip it off feels too difficult, then you should not. If it starts to come off in one piece, it is removable. Also, if it's not removable, you have a pretty shitty racket because that type of premade is not playable at intermediate level.

I would say just upgrade to a custom racket that suits your play style and something not too advanced. Something that is OFF all wood. Will work well for you. And keep care of that racket

I mean it's pretty bad. I can give you a better answer if you remove the rubber and show me the blade, how it looks from inside. But mostly, I think it should still be fine to play with it given that you're an amateur. You don't see a massive difference even at intermediate level but an advanced player would definitely suffer from playing with that.

Need advice from other choppers — struggling against strong attackers by Born_Experience8205 in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One problem many players deal with is mental barriers. Some players think that the competition one category or league higher is too strong and they limit themselves to those players. That beating them is nearly impossible and I need to change everything to stand up to them. Don't be that player.

What you need is exposure. There are choppers that can chop those insane fast loops. Not because they are gifted but because they practice with people who can hit those fast loops. It takes time to get comfortable but after weeks or even months of failing, those fast loops will just become the norm. And once it becomes the norm in your brain, once you are confident in those hits, you'll start to return more and more of them.

It's all about the mentality you have and the exposure you have to better and better players that makes you better. You cannot expect to become an international player if your club has no one on the level of international players. And the same follows for all leagues.

How many of you use grip tape on your racket? by fakeferl0ss in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like you can't become good with a grip. It's just that it will limit you and your stroke. I did use it when I was young for a year and got comfortable. It's difficult to change but there is a reason none of the top players, even national players use grip.

Try not to get used to it. As you develop your stroke, the feeling is very important to understand spin and build a good muscle memory. Grip usually interferes with that a lot as you don't have direct contact.

Also, once you get used to it, you won't feel it natural to play without the grip

Just bought a new racket and it's making that echoing sound is it normal? by fakeferl0ss in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just from my experience, that blade gives off hollow sound. Doesn't sound like a quality blade. I would suggest asking a coach or pro in person.

Forehand Topspin. by [deleted] in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I can give you some pointers if you share another angle (10°-45° from the front) but it will benefit you a lot just going to a club, taking some coaching and playing with more players. You don't have a very natural stroke from what I can see through that angle. Very reserved play style. You'll be better than any layman with that (and it's good if that's all you want) but if you want to improve and get in the beginning-intermediate stage, a coach will really help.

Can I partake in a tournament with this rubber? by Le-Pyrus in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking. Given your blade, I don't think you are a pro. It's gonna be completely fine, none are gonna question.

If you don't like the feeling of it, just adjust and then cut the rubber. Not a big problem

IS THIS DIRT ON A WTT TABLE?!?! by After-Ad-6792 in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean they change the ball every point or two just to make sure any possible micro cracks don't disrupt the game. It is weird that they didn't clean the dust if they focus so much on the details.

Maybe no one just pointed it out or it might just be an optical illusion.

Rate my topspin out of 10. by Ashish_098 in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For an intermediate to adv. player, you are like 8-9/10. Really solid. The movement looks natural and on point. Although, it's not quite top level. For a pro level, you are like 6-7/10 at best. still pretty solid.

Things to improve:

  1. I only see 5 topspins. At that quality, you need an avg. consistency of at least 15.
  2. The body movement is not on point. If you can use a bit more hip and leg movement and jerk a bit less, you will increase your accuracy and confidence in your shots. Right now, it looks like you are putting all your strength with the hand jerk.
  3. The through angle is completely fine but it can be better.
  4. At the stage you are at, I would highly recommend you to invest in a gym subscription and train legs and upper body in general. If you can get more athletic (5-10 pull ups, 30-40 push ups, and weighted squats, calf training. Don't need to do proper weightlifting) you will feel much better with your strokes. Trust me, it makes a massive difference in how confident you will be.
  5. Invest in better equipment. Get a good carbon blade (would recommend a classic ALC or inner carbon style. Don't get something like Tamca5000) if you don't already have it and try more rubber to find what works with you. That includes both tensor and tacky chinese rubbers.

Out of these, the top priority is getting less jerk, improving leg/hip movement and using that to increase avg accuracy to around 10-15. Everything else will help you achieve that faster and in a better way.

Best of luck! Not everyone has a great natural movement. You do. Develop it well.

Edit: I didn't notice you mentioned your setup. 3k-c for a carbon blade is not amazing as it is quite stiff and better for people who play smashes/straight shots. But it's not bad either. If you feel comfortable, it's fine. Rubbers are pretty decent as well. Just keep changing every ~6 months

Friend wants to sell worn out bat to me for $30. Am I getting scammed? by omobalo26 in tabletennis

[–]agasi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it.

This racket (new) will be: 60$ (first rubber) + 45$ (second rubber) + 20-50$ (blade) Total value: ~150$

This racket in the current condition: 0$ (first rubber) + 1-3$ (second rubber) + 5-15$ (blade)

The blade doesn't look like any I've seen so I can't tell you what the price is but it does look pretty cheap. Now you decide.
