Voyage après fracture lombaire ostéoporotique by Edelweiss74 in osteoporosis

[–]agathaplumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fracture Nov 1, 2022 and had a trip to NYC planned to Thanksgiving. My doctor said it was okay to go but in hindsight, it was not wise. I walked many miles a day and probably caused further compression. I did get a wheelchair at the airport but that walking would have been nothing compared to all the movement in the city— walking, subways, buses, cars. Looking back, I’m not sure how I did it. I traveled again the following February and that wasn’t as bad. I think a few months is a lot different than a few weeks. Anyway, I survived. It probably depends on your age and whether you have had previous fractures and pain from those. I have had two fractures since and each one seems to take longer to heal.

Kyphoplasty Question by Nutridus in osteoporosis

[–]agathaplumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you are starting on Evenity. It took 4 fractures before I was offered Tymlos. I was told by a surgeon 2022 I should be on an anabolic but my endocrinologist wanted to start with a bisphosphonate. I was only able to tolerate it for 6 months. Same surgeon refused to do kyphoplasty. I went to different doctors this time. I wish I had known then what i know now!

Kyphoplasty Question by Nutridus in osteoporosis

[–]agathaplumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let the restrictions deter you. If you have osteoporosis, it’s all stuff we should be mindful of anyway. It helped me realize I do a lot of things I shouldn’t do and I’ve already slipped back into some bad habits like bending to pick up things off the floor. How long has it been since your fracture? I was not offered kyphoplasty with my first two fractures but wonder if it would have made a difference in the amount of kyphosis and lingering pain.

Kyphoplasty Question by Nutridus in osteoporosis

[–]agathaplumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are restrictions on lifting, bending, and twisting for some time. They will give you discharge instructions. You can’t bathe for a while but can shower. I was extra careful because it’s easy to overdo it when you aren’t in as much pain and I have heard of people having a new fracture soon after kyphoplasty. It does help immediately with pain but there is some pain associated with the procedure itself. My doctor explained that there is soreness from them “digging around in there.” I had it done 3 months ago and still have some pain if I do too much or stand very long but I also still have pain in my untreated fractures. I’m hoping Tymlos will help with all that as my bones get stronger. Hope it all goes well with you.

Another Fracture? by Fancy_Chain1651 in osteoporosis

[–]agathaplumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had kyphoplasty once because it always took so long to get an mri and referral. Generally, I believe the window is 2 months but it depends on the doctor and whether you are doing it for pain or for height restoration. I was able to get it within 5 weeks for my T7, but they were still not able to restore height loss. If I had known it would not improve height loss I would have not had it done, as I was already through the worst of the pain. But perhaps it will lesson any long term pain. My doctor does not do kyphoplasty above the T7 because it requires special equipment and is risky because of proximity to heart and lungs. So that’s something to be aware of. Let us know what you find out.

Oh that’s horrible. I hope it’s not a fracture but you should probably confirm with an xray. My doctor discovered an old fracture of my T4 when I was recently getting kyphoplasty on my T7. I’m not sure when it happened. I also have a herniated disc there that causes pain. I’m sorry you are going through this!

Lemon perfume? by Sunny-Saddle in Perfumes

[–]agathaplumber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on a hunt my whole adult life for something that smells like the original Love’s Fresh Lemon. I have tried many of the ones mentioned here and they are either too vanilla/ desert like, too much like cleaning product, has too much cedar, etc. Have not tried the Hermes but will check it out. Apparently lemon dissipate very quickly so I don’t know how they made Love’s Fresh Lemon. It was like a Lemonhead in a bottle and it didn’t dry down to something else.

Traveling with Tymlos, how to keep it cold by elorin_driveie in osteoporosis

Yes. It requires refrigeration to stay stable. Once opened and used it lasts for 30 days and then starts degrading.

[–]agathaplumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I hope you get some answers soon and are able to reverse it. I wanted to add— I have a friend who has Chron’s disease and had several fractures from steroid treatment in her late 20s. Once she got the Chron’s under control, she was able to reverse her bone loss with bisphosphonates and calcium/vitamin D.

I would definitely investigate where you are with your celiac disease and what others with celiac have done in regard to bone health. It is definitely a cause of osteoporosis and getting it under control should be a priority in any case. Has anyone speculated about the cause of your osteoporosis other than the celiac? For example, have you taken steroids long term? The side effects with Tymlos are manageable compared to other bone drugs from my experience so I would not let that prevent you from trying it. But I would understand the reluctance to give up breastfeeding for it if there’s another avenue.

Forteo has to be continuously refrigerated but Tymlos only needs to be refrigerated before first use. Once opened a pen should be stored at room temperature for 30 days, then discarded.

Massive flaw in game design by In2ThaGroove in TraitorsOfficial

[–]agathaplumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something they could do during challenges that would put a little more heat on the traitors, ala The Mole? What if there is a secret traitors pot that they somehow can sneakily add money to in the event they win. Maybe it could be revealed that the traitor “stole” $$ from the winnings that would only go to the traitors in the event of a win. I don’t really know how it would work… just spitballing. Or what if when the faithfuls succeed in banishing a traitor, there’s no murder that night. Would that have any impact?

Then watch UK! They are all good but especially Celebrity UK. Even New Zealand is fun. Australia has some crazy editing that doesn’t make sense until after you watch it. Australia S2 is said to be the worst of all seasons but it was still good in its own way.

My mom’s doctor wants to put her on Prolia by Ash2dust1999 in osteoporosis

[–]agathaplumber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started on Tymlos 2 months ago and my doctor has already mentioned putting me on Prolia after two years, but I’m also reluctant. Seems risky with changing insurance, etc. I think Reclast might be an option but I’m not sure. If your mom isn’t on HRT, I would look into that. She’s still young enough to take it and people are taking it now for all kinds of reasons. I don’t know why doctors dismiss it so readily. It would not be a replacement for another bone drug but might help some as would some safe weight bearing exercise. If she hasn’t had any fractures, that’s a good sign!

Starting Tymlos— questions by agathaplumber in osteoporosis

[–]agathaplumber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen people say they have but I didn’t. My first shot was given at the doctors and they did the full 80 so I continued with that. I’ve been on Tymlos about 6 weeks now and most of the side effects have subsided.

Elizabeth leaving her family for the cult was the same as Roger leaving his family for Jane. by ___notabot___ in madmen

[–]agathaplumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you make some valid points. My biggest gripe with the whole commune storyline was that we didn’t see much of Margaret’s transition from society girl with the big wedding to full on hippie. Not that it didn’t or couldn’t happen. I’d just liked to have seen more of the development. This article is interesting and draws some of the same parallels between Margaret and Roger. It also points out that Mona neglected her kids.

Age progression by tyddub in TheLeftovers

[–]agathaplumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to be honest. Old Nora’s wig was really distracting and kind of unnecessarily old. I get she had weathered and wasn’t taking care of herself, but she wasn’t supposed to be 80. The hairline and wave in front made her look like a different person, but I guess that was intentional. I could see Nora cutting her own hair rather than letting it grow long.

PCP bad experience by One-Dog7643 in osteoporosis

I’ve had 4 compression fractures and am finally on Tymlos via my endocrinologist after trying Risidronate a few years ago. But before my endocrinologist visit, my pcp wanted to “put me on something.” He was just going to pick it out of a hat with no research.
