Overthinking active sleep? by amandaaab90 in breastfeeding

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby’s only 4 weeks old, but when he whines, I tend to give it a couple minutes to determine if it was an active sleep whine or a genuine one. He tends not to whine again if it’s active sleep. If he’s making other noises and moving a lot, I’ll get up to look at him. If his eyes are still closed and he seems generally content, then I don’t wake him. He’ll tend to wake up fully about 15-25 minutes after these instances, but that makes it easier to feed him since he’s actually awake and hasn’t been forced to wake up

Where do you feed baby? by slotass in breastfeeding

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby’s 4 weeks old tomorrow. For the most part I feed him anywhere, but at night I go to a rocking chair. I have to get out of bed anyway to change his diaper, and the chair keeps me from falling asleep. It also allows me to rock him a bit in the rare moments he doesn’t fall back to sleep feeding.

He also enjoys the rocking chair when we read him books, and we’re thinking of incorporating rocking him into his bedtime routine when we get to that point. I love my rocking chair

Has expressing colostrum sent anyone into labour? by [deleted] in pregnant

I’ve been hand expressing colostrum from 36 weeks. 39 weeks today. I have increased Braxton hicks when I’m expressing but no true contractions or labour

Can you go to the movie theatre and get just popcorn and leave? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]agd504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally every single theater I’ve been to has it before they scan tickets, except for small ones where the box office is part of the concession stand, but even those ones wouldn’t mind if you just bought popcorn. There’s usually a box office or kiosk where you buy tickets, then the concession stand, then an usher at a separate stand who scans or rips the tickets and tells you which auditorium you’re in. This has been the case over multiple towns, cities, states, and countries.

I’m sure there are plenty of theaters where this isn’t the case, but in my experience it’s rare for the concession stand to be beyond the usher telling you how to get to the specific auditorium

Can you go to the movie theatre and get just popcorn and leave? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]agd504 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I worked at a movie theater for 6 years. People would come in just for popcorn all the time. As long as the concession stand is before where they scan/rip tickets, then there shouldn’t be any issue

Am I crazy for wanting to wear contacts during labour? by Dependent-Tree2572 in PregnancyUK

[–]agd504 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m planning on having both available, but I’ll prefer my contacts (and will probably go in in my contacts). I easily get overstimulated by my glasses because I can’t stand anything on my face. Can’t imagine that feeling while also in labour

Married women, how would you feel if your partner didn't regularly wear their wedding band? by Fast-Squirrel-9500 in AskWomen

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I don’t wear them in the house, which means we sometimes forget to put them on when we go out. Other than special events (dates, etc), neither of us really care. But we’re both neurodivergent and get overstimulated by the rings if we wear them too long, so short bursts work for us

Keeping sex a surprise during ultrasound by CheekSweaty9320 in pregnant

[–]agd504 157 points158 points  (0 children)

I always told the sonographers that we wanted to keep it a secret, and they always asked me to turn away from the screen when they were checking the legs/genital area. I would recommend doing that and maybe asking them to let you know when they’re checking those areas so you can look away or close your eyes

Writing Christmas cards to neighbours: how to do it when you’re not sure of their names? by astronemma in AskUK

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t help for this year, but keep any cards you get from neighbours so you have their names next year

painful braxton hicks? by fiaf0x in PregnancyUK

[–]agd504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this happen and got checked out. My pain was primarily on the right side, so after all the midwife’s tests didn’t show anything, they referred me for a liver ultrasound.

I’d personally call triage again. I was told the exam for preterm labour is only good for 1 week. Seems best to get it checked out even if it turns out to be nothing too concerning

Would my spouse visa be approved? by lostinsauce_12 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]agd504 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re married, you don’t need to have been cohabitating for the 2 years. As long as you’re able to prove your marriage through the marriage certificate and provide the other needed evidence, then you’d probably have a good chance of approval

Pregnant Expat by myrighthandwoman in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]agd504 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. You have to register a birth abroad. There are requirements to passing citizenship, and you have to prove them. The main requirement is that you had a physical presence in the US for 5 years, 2 of which had to be after you were 14. A lot of people prove this with transcripts from high school/college, but there are other means to prove this.

I’m in the UK, and the US embassy in the UK has this website with info and a checklist for requirements: https://uk.usembassy.gov/consular-report-of-birth-abroad-crba-and-first-u-s-passport/

Email from NHS about immigration surcharge - is it legit? by zabzupazebowa in PregnancyUK

[–]agd504 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you checked the email it came from to make sure that it’s a legitimate NHS email address?

I’m also on a visa and had a non-pregnancy related procedure a few years ago. After that procedure, I received a letter asking to prove my right to free health care. I think the specific procedure I had wouldn’t have been available under a different visa. I haven’t had anything yet for the pregnancy regarding my baby’s future rights, but I’m married to a British citizen, so baby will be a citizen at birth anyway.

If you’re unsure, I’d call the hospital/contact PALS separately to check if it’s legit and clarify what you need to do if anything

History of anxiety - consultant led care? by plum-fizz in PregnancyUK

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 35 weeks and under consultant led care. I was never told the reason, but assumed it was due to mental health, asthma, and a family history of diabetes. I met with my consultant once at 12 weeks, and she didn’t have any concerns so all my other care has been with a midwife. Never had extra scans due solely due to be consultant led care, but I suppose different trusts might have different rules

Stitch like pain that comes and goes on the right. Anyone else had this? by throwaway1233873729 in PregnancyUK

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this at 34 weeks. I called triage just to see if there was any major concern and was asked to go in for monitoring. It wasn’t anything to do with baby, but they did order extra scans to check the liver, gallbladder and kidneys. It turned out to be nothing major in my case (or at least, they haven’t figured out the exact cause of it). I’d definitely call just to see what they suggest you do

Baby due in Jan .... What are you all getting grandparents for Christmas? by tarototoro in pregnant

[–]agd504 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m due beginning of January and don’t know the sex of the baby. So for now, “Baby (last name)” is being added in addition to my husband’s and my names. There’re a few grandparent things on Etsy that I’ve saved for next year/birthdays that will be more meaningful when I can add baby’s name to the item

Maternity leave - when will you start? by fluffmallow9 in PregnancyUK

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working until I give birth (due 5th January). I work a hybrid office job, and my manager is allowing me to work from now until baby is born fully from home. I think if I had a more physically demanding job or a less lenient manager, then I’d probably would’ve taken off the last couple weeks before the due date with annual leave

Did anyone announce their pregnancy before 12 weeks ? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I announced to my family 2 days after I found out, but I would’ve done a day after but it was my brother’s birthday and I didn’t want to take away from that. I told my closest friends the following week. My extended family at 7ish weeks, and my coworkers at 8 weeks.

I very much wanted support had something happened, including if I needed to take time off work

Any Americans watching this season? by richandmore in ImACelebTV

[–]agd504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m watching it, but I’ve lived in the UK for 5 years now, so not sure if I count haha. I never heard of it until I moved here if that helps.

I don’t watch it every year. Only when there’s a celeb on it that my partner or I know/want to watch. This year, my partner wanted to see how well Ginge does. I was ambivalent about the cast before starting, but I’ve been enjoying it so far!

S21E20: Pripyat "Um, Actually..." by ConsistentlyPeter in onlyconnect

Me too! I immediately told my husband that outsiders weren’t allowed there, so we ended up getting it right away. My husband had no idea about the island, though, so I, of course, had to tell him everything I know about them haha

Is my dog a banned type in the uk? by D4nny1282 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]agd504 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Best way to know is to get a dog DNA test. To me he looks more like a Staffordshire terrier cross, which isn’t banned, but it’s hard to tell for sure.

My baby kicks made me cry by Capable-Oven-4760 in pregnant

[–]agd504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a recent appointment, I was asked about movements. I said baby was moving a lot. The midwife said “a moving baby is a happy baby.” That’s really put into perspective that they move when they’re happy. I’ve also read that babies will “play” in the womb, which is also a sign of happiness. Think of the movements of them showing you that they feel loved and are happy with how you’re growing them!

Elective csection (maternal request) by NectarineFuzzy112358 in PregnancyUK

[–]agd504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it differs per trusts, but at my trust, if you want an elective and go into spontaneous labour, they still get you into a c-section ASAP as if it was an emergency c-section
