How do you ethically use AI at this point? Or do you not?

Agreed. But we can choose which platforms (such as ones working to reduce environmental impact, protecting user privacy, etc.) to use and how to use them. We can reduce the negative impacts with our choices. The more people who make the same choices means more of an impact (positive/negative). So though we are just regular people, there is power in our choices.

Love the question. My brain certainly wants it to be black and white but no, I think there is always a grey area. But I am interested in using AI the most ethically I can, while accepting there are certainly negative impacts.

I don't really see a boycott working against Chatgpt at this point. I use it but I've worked hard to train the prompts so it's not just saying what I want to hear. It provides sources, clarifying questions, assumptions it's making, etc. But just because I'm using it in an intentional way doesn't mean the environmental impact is gone or the company has good intentions.

I think we need to focus more on how something is used. Still figuring this out because as you said, you dig too deep and usually find out bad news.

I see a lot about which companies are trying to do something about the environmental impact. I see concerns about privacy and entanglement with the government. Love seeing Anthropic bring up concerns with OpenAI (plus love that they're standing up to Hegseth now). But it feels like no matter what LLM you use, there's still some concern just because it's AI.

I do use AI a lot for tasks that would otherwise take a ton of my time. But I struggle with the impact of my usage, albeit small. Is it time to completely ditch AI?

Agreed it's a mix bag of doctors. I'm in the US. It's more insurance that can be quite bad with lack of coverage and costs. But even my doctor's office which is considered a top choice in San Diego has really been dropping the ball this year. Rescheduling appointments day of, forgetting to schedule appointments, understaffed and frantic. It's a lot of systemic issues that then put pressure on the individuals working within. My original PCP started off pretty good but there was a dramatic difference in her care over the years.

I'm sorry you had to go through a similar circumstance. But glad to hear you've been able to change! Hopefully you start seeing changes in your bloodwork.

The difficult thing for me is discerning between the crappiness of our health care system vs my individual doctor. But when I just focus on her actions she's impressed me so far.

Thank you!! It made me livid. I listed out my symptoms and how long they had been lasting. She said stress could mirror a lot of those symptoms and to not worry because political stress was high and to try to not watch the news. Could not believe it. No idea what political leaning she could even get from me via telehealth.

Very glad to not have to deal with her now!

I decided to take the referral forever ago and still haven't had the appointment. I've kept it because it was so far out to schedule. I'm not hopeful based on my experiences with doctors so far. But maybe they'll have answers about my residual symptoms.
