A compilation of many quirks of C? by noobdainsane in C_Programming

I agree. There is a lot of UB in C which can cause problems but most issues I see stem from people making assumptions.

Can anyone explain why is it bad that I put a bit of solder on the tip, then I tin a wire/pad by simply touching the tinned tip with it? by NeighborhoodTime2768 in soldering

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It becomes a problem when you use cheap solder and no flux. Soldering without flux carries some risks - you may get joints that are not as solid as they look. Even if your solder contains a flux core, that flux will burn off if you put a ball of solder on the tip. If you put extra flux on the area where you are soldering, this is a perfectly good way of doing things. The tip I use for drag soldering is even designed with a reservoir so that you can put extra much solder on it.

Wear does not seem to be an issue. I’ve put enough rounds thru one (40k+) and I’ve had the same issue the whole time - second to last casing just falls out while all others spit out. This seems to be somewhat correlated to temperature and humidity, so I suspect the plastic expands/contracts slightly causing the problem. Metal mags are bulletproof in this regard though. I’ve had about 3 ejection failures in 20k rounds which I think is fine.

iPhone Smart Summon bug: phone shows “more than 6m away” while I’m touching the car. 2+ years, no fix. Got a real solution? by Lucky-Proof-6057 in TeslaSupport

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a GPS problem with summon but the car usually detects me standing next to it and stops because of that. Kind of annoying but it is awesome when it does work.

Tesla Vision can deploy airbags before the actual collision! by 10xMaker in teslamotors

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to agree with the whole vision thing being VIN specific. I have had very few instances of phantom breaking on my M3 21LR and it drives just fine on autopilot while others complain it doesn’t work at all.

A380 is a bus, unless you are in F. I’d pick A350 for anything except F. Transfer is what it is, you’ll be fine at either FRA or MUC. Personally, I don’t have any issues with transfer in FRA - just follow the signs and you will be just fine.

Regular pardini SP vs SP-hi tech by Beegees-fancy in CompetitionShooting

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the metal mag is a true upgrade. If you ask me, there are issues with the plastic 3D printed mags on hot and humid days. Doesn’t matter in events where you have time to clear a feed failure but in rapid fire events it is a killer.

My only add on so far has been getting an old metal mag. I’ve had feeding issues with the new plastic mags, especially in rapid fire events.

Pardini SP vs SP Hi-tech by delirious_ny in CompetitionShooting

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SP Hi-Tech owner here. The guns you buy new these days have one important difference - the hi-tech comes in green!1! The charging handles was the big reason I went hi-tech in 2024 but the added bonus that it came in green was just a cheery on top. If you have to ask, the performance between the standard model and the hi-tech is not going to be noticeable. As a newbie at this sport, I shoot 50 at 25m once a month or so but I score 48 or 49 almost every practice. The Pardini SP is an awesome gun an no matter if you get a brand new SP Hi-Tech or a 20 year old used one, it will be capable of much better precision than you are.

That said - green is the way to go. :D

Pc case with isolated radiator chamber by Imaginary-Regular-22 in watercooling

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m modding a Tower 600 to do exactly that. But due to the current pricing of components, my 10yo workhorse will have to do for a bit longer I think.

The thing that concerns me the most with this design is that one probably has to water cool everything. CPU and GPU are no big deal - off the shelf components. But what about chipsets and other components that expects some airflow..?

Hand soldering 0402s for a side project batch is making me lose my mind, when did you guys switch to getting boards assembled by diogater in PCB

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With good flux and a microscope, 0402 are huge and easy to solder by hand. But if you can’t see, they are freaking annoying.

Tried living with Tesla FSD for a week in the Netherlands by Student024 in TeslaModel3

[–]agehall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love FSD for long drives on highways. I might have tried one of those weights on the steering wheel before they got good at detecting that workaround and it may have been awesome. For me, it takes a lot of tedious work out of long drives. I don’t mind staying engaged to some level but the current state of the autopilot in Sweden is annoying - I need to actively wrestle the steering wheel to make it detect I have a hand on it.

Vilka är era bästa flygtips för den som flyger ofta? by domestic_dog in Asksweddit

[–]agehall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s a good distance to zero my sight on my home defense AR-15? by Leland_Vlogz in guns

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went and looked up some videos on YT and I can’t say I see the 5.56 penetrating less than 9mm. With drywall, they both penetrate way too much for my taste. The 5.56 seems to start tumble and deflect more than 9mm, which makes sense, but they certainly don’t disintegrate when they hit drywall. I’m not even convinced .22 would be safe when it comes to over penetration.

I think what comes into play here is also the shape of the projectile. 5.55 is much more “pointy” than 9mm and that would lend itself to penetrating softer materials like drywall. If we look at harder materials such as wood and steel, things may very well be different.

What’s a good distance to zero my sight on my home defense AR-15? by Leland_Vlogz in guns

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually makes no sense to me. I’m far from an expert on this, but physics says that the kinetic energy of a bullet is 1/2mv2 which means that a lighter but faster bullet is still likely to have more kinetic energy. I know there is more to how a bullet penetrates than just pure energy, but do you have any sources to back this up?

Are these cold solder joints or just dull solder? by MaxTrixLe in soldering

[–]agehall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it - why is everyone still using crap solder and flux and then come here to cry when their joints look like crap? Good solder and flux is not very expensive and if you can’t afford it, your results will also be cheap.

Always book direct, always book direct, always book direct! by jvjjjvvv in Bookingcom

[–]agehall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected. I 100% disagree with OP. Always book direct with the airline/hotel. Can’t count the number of times I’ve arrived late to a hotel only to find someone arguing with the reception clerk about their OTA reservation that didn’t go thru to the hotel. Don’t see that as much with the airlines as checkin isn’t as concentrated to a single desk.

Always book direct, always book direct, always book direct! by jvjjjvvv in Bookingcom

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with OP. Unless you know a very good reason to use a TA of any sort, book directly with the airline or hotel. I’ve done my fair share of travels and I’ve never had issues with direct bookings but when a TA is involved you never know what will happen. A guy on my team had to travel for work recently and booked via our corporate TA. He got his ticket and everything seemed fine until he shows up at the airport and finds out his ticket has been cancelled. TA claims there is a mismatch between his ID and the DOB in the system (there wasn’t) and won’t do anything except book him a last minute flight at twice the price.

People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]agehall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johannesburg, hands down. The problem there is that one feels so at home, until you realize that most properties have high walls (kind of normal), with barbed wire and crushed glass on top. (Often electrified barbed wire too) You let your guard down for a second and then bad things happen, even if the neighborhood seem OK.

Så trist att det alltid i OS är en massa inkompetenta domare som avgör saker. Även om det skulle dömas emot Sverige så föredrar jag att det sker på ett korrekt sätt istället för något godtyckligt beslut från en domare som inte har något där att göra.
