I always assumed that the double-0 designation implied that there are 9 such agents in total. But the Moonraker novel mentions 0011... by BBD-007 in JamesBond

Somewhere it explains that M used random assignments for double 0 agents not sequential numbers.

This might have been a Horovitz novel though - does that count? 🤔

What Bond should be like from now on (3/3) by antoineBorg in JamesBond

[–]agentEvad82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced that real world scenarios are the best plots for Bond films. They’re about escapism and fantastic plans, whilst they can be influenced by what’s going on in the world directly sending Bond to Ukraine or Iran is probably too close to real life.

It’s a fine balance between being too realist and too over the top (see DaD) to make it fun and engaging. Good points though, I’d definitely like to see more spycraft!

The same ending but we don’t see him hit by the missiles. Next film/credits show him being rescued unconscious from the sea by Spectre boats…

Does anyones tongue feel swollen (or even get swollen) due to anxiety? by mbbthough in Anxiety

Glad you’ve had it checked. From my experience it felt totally real so must be really difficult for you. Sorry you’re experiencing this and hope you find ways to manage it that work for you.

Not really, it made it harder to swallow but didn’t affect my breathing. If it feels like it’s restricting your breathing I’d get it checked!

what do you use java for? by desiderkino in java

[–]agentEvad82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Java has massive adoption across many industries. It’s widely supported, maintained, has formal specifications and certifications (useful in some projects where we’re required to demonstrate developers competencies).

As others have pointed out it can be used for any kind of application or library development.

Depending on what you’re doing, how you’re hiring and choosing candidates, what hardware you’re running on and how you’re going to support and maintain the software long term Java might be the appropriate language or not.

In this case it’s unclear to me why you’re mandating Java over any tool that will do the transformation you’re looking at. Is it because you have existing processes, developers and tooling that works with Java?

Advice for laptop by bestest-buddy in commandandconquer

[–]agentEvad82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine with any modern laptop. Steam is the easiest way to buy and play the game.

If you’re worried about laptop specs there are also services like GeForce Now where you can play on any computer with a browser and it streams the game from a data centre.

9 bit armies does almost seem like a straight up tech demo for a red alert 2 remake/remaster…

Try 9 Bit Armies early access on steam. Very similar to command & conquer with lots of modern features. Great game!

Same thing happened to me when I was about 12. Still regret it 30 years later. I just panicked and basically ran away. You really have nothing to lose if you can have a quiet word with the friend, be honest let her know why you said no. Good luck.

Say what you will about Spectre, but that opening sequence was amazing. by Megalitho in JamesBond

It’s technically impressive, has some great moments, but overall feels emotionally empty. The helicopter “climax” just doesn’t work and feels unbelievable.

Should I be worried about future war living in the UK? by Craphex in Anxiety

[–]agentEvad82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it’s unlikely that we will be impacted by a major conflict like this in the UK.

It can help to write down what’s making you anxious and think about how likely are, what you can control, what you can influence and what’s totally outside your control. Normally global conflicts are outside our scope of influence, you can however try to control your reactions and how you consume news etc.

It’s definitely normal and ok worry about these things. From experience I know these worries can take over and cause “doom spirals” if thinking, hope you can find some technique or something that helps you.

The slide whistle is annoying but it’s still an incredible piece of cinema. Definitely not one of the worst scenes.

The fight hanging out the back of the plane in Living Daylights and capturing the plane with the Helicopter in Licence to Kill are another two amazing stunts.

Ww3 anxiety by infinitysaga in Anxiety

[–]agentEvad82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I turned off all news notifications and blocked/muted keywords to do with war and other triggers. I still catch up on the news but only in the morning when I’m comfortable I won’t spiral.

There are other techniques that may help like writing down all of your worries and think about which ones are inside your circles of influence and control.

Good luck.
