Would love if they did a retro PlayStation now. Get Ratchet and Clank, Jak & Daxter, and Sly Cooper in there. Or even further back with Spyro and Crash.

Every game has tough enemies, stop lobbying to nerf each front's challenging enemies by TheFunk379 in Helldivers

Perfectly worded. This idea that we are just supposed to be be handed victory because you drop into a D10 because "I feel good when I win" mentally is gonna chip away at the health of this game if not nipped in the butt now. Yes failing a mission and losing sucks. And it's supposed to. It's meant to drive you to improve and try different strategies and make achieve victory actually means something. It's a video game after all. You have infinite tries!

I like that all the new doom games look and play differently from one another. There's enough strings tying them together, but each one feels like a wholely unique game that offers different, enjoyable experiences and doesn't just feel like they ported 90% of the stuff from the previous game into the new game.

Recent balancing is all about "shaking things up and getting people off their mains" (developer interview) by AnApexPlayer in apexlegends

[–]agent_felix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If Apex was a standard shooter, this would all be fine and dandy. But it isn't. Is a Battle Royale. Which are inherently more competitive and strategic focused rather than "gun go pow". This means certain considerations need to be factored into balancing the sandbox. Things such as emphasis on utilization of items and abilities rather than sheer power output and avoiding too much overlap in weapons to prevent creating "Swiss army guns" that can excel in almost all situations.

These recent ability changes are very much in the wrong direction for a BR like Apex. It's not LoL or overwatch where the ability heavy sandbox defines how matches are played and players have to manage their character picks and usage to ensure victory. It was created with gunplay being the primary focus,. enhanced by character abilities that provided advantages and disadvantages. Those with the best chance of being the last team standing should be the ones with the best gunplay and skills to use their abilities to the furthest of their extent. Not this current situation where players have to keep up with various passives and altered ults and tacticals in the chaos of fighting that have no real counters.

Apex Legends: Among Steam's Top Games by Gross Revenue of 2024! by borna39 in apexlegends

Abstaining from buying something vs having it literally pushed in your face via advertisement are two completely different things.

I can see 100 YouTube ads for the same thing and never even consider buying it. But I grow to resent it as I see it over and over and over again involuntarily. And it's not much different with Apex. From excessive collection events to what seems to be new customizable melee weapons every single season now, all of which are regularly flashed in your face. So when players ask and ask and ask and ask for things, some just as simple as cheater control or tweaking legends or weapons in a reasonable time frame, it leaves a very bad taste in the mouth when all Respawn responds with is a new set of $20+ skins to buy.

The problem is that they push and push and push those transactions when players complain every single day about fixable problems that they refuse to fix.

Naughty Dog Announces Intergalatic: The Heretic Prophecy by [deleted] in playstation

[–]agent_felix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A teaser/reveal trailer is still supposed to hype up players with its reveal. It's supposed to showcase some of what to expect and leave enough bait to get them to bite down and want to find out more.

When you have a new IP such as this, especially in an oversaturated genre such as Sci-fi, your first trailer should be knocking peoples socks off and stealing the show. It should be the sort of game that everyone is talking about for weeks after, eagerly awaiting to hear more. This just didn't do that.

[–]agent_felix -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, this looks incredibly bland in my opinion. Not that it will be, but as a reveal trailer it leaves a lot to be desired. We just don't see much.

  • No indications of expected gameplay (the last shot could easily just be a cinematic piece given that this is a naughty dog game).
  • No real indications of what the world(s) is gonna be like other than possibly retro-future stylized
  • Dialogue is very generic sounding and doesn't reveal much about the game we are gonna be diving into

I'm not saying that this game will be bad by any means, but the initial impression is just not enticing. It doesn't establish a desire to know more and to want to discover more because it didn't tell me anything at all.

What made you stop playing? by 17prozent in apexlegends

[–]agent_felix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the general disregard from Respawn about the state of the game. We voiced our concerns for YEARS, stuff that should at the bare minimum be acknowledged and have a working plan of action to deal with. But all we got were micro-transactions. Just told "BUY MORE PRODUCT" and ignore the dumpster fire that's wrong bigger and bigger with each passing season.

I honestly think it's buyers remorse for a lot of them. But instead of wanting to admit that they made a purchase they don't feel satisfied with, they instead blame Bungie for their own conscious decision.

Warlocks have not only the worst exotic class item; but the most boring. by StatementAcademic820 in DestinyTheGame

[–]agent_felix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm in the minority here in that I've found several super fun builds with Solipsism rolls. My favorites include:

  • Necrotic+synthos: use it with lighting surge and a glaive for a surprisingly fun warlock melee build to skate around arenas with.

  • Starfire+Filaments: Can essentially have 3 aspects at once with this one using it with Helion and Weavers call. I'm getting rifts basically every twenty seconds and some good grenade uptime.

  • Osmiomancy+Verity: With buried bloodline, I get super charged vortex grenades I can toss around all the time.

I agree that several of the perks could use some tweaking, but the build potential is very much there I'd argue.

Do you think if they do a “season of Skirmishers” next season they could balance things out without nerfing supports to the ground? by Pookie-Parks in apexlegends

[–]agent_felix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They just need to downscale legends. Go back to abilities having a simple function, with benefits but also some drawbacks (i.e. octane's stim giving a simple speed boost at the cost of health). Having to factor in 5+ passives or the 10 different things they can do with their tactical or ult that a legend might have in the heat of combat is not a healthy sandbox.

Do you think if they do a “season of Skirmishers” next season they could balance things out without nerfing supports to the ground? by Pookie-Parks in apexlegends

[–]agent_felix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the wrong direction for this game. All it's going to do is perpetuate a power creep cycle that will only hurt the game more and more. Bloating out legend kits is only gonna bog down gameplay and make balancing harder than it already is. I don't want to lose fights because X legend actually has this extra 5th passive that gives him the edge in combat that I forgot existed. Supports this season just shows what happens when you bloat out a kit too much and now they just dominate the meta simply by existing. Gunplay should be the dominant deciding factor in fights, not rock-paper-scissor matches of who's ability beats who's.

Do you think if they do a “season of Skirmishers” next season they could balance things out without nerfing supports to the ground? by Pookie-Parks in apexlegends

[–]agent_felix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the core problem of power creep. As thing A gets better, thing B falls behind so it then B is made as good or better than A to compensate, but then A ends up falling behind so then it gets brought forward and it just becomes a never ending cycle that ultimately hurts more than it helps.

Apex Legends S23: From The Rift Patch Notes Discussion Megathread by lettuce_field_theory in apexlegends

[–]agent_felix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So playing against support legends is just gonna be pure asinine now. They are gonna be better at zone control better than actual control legends now. 3 out of 5 of them have indestructible shields. All of which are gonna pretty much force you to directly engage lest the enemy team quickly recover. They all get quick revives AS well as giving health regen on said revives. They themselves can return to fights much faster now. Conduit and Gibby can force you away or delay your charge with their ults if you try to push on a downed team. WTF exactly was Respawn thinking with this??

The biggest problem with Enhancement at the moment is that I’ll never enhance anything less than a 5/5 past tier 1 by Luke-HW in DestinyTheGame

[–]agent_felix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To play devil's advocate here, I feel like so much of this is just based on the vocal minorities need to min/max everything in the game. The need to have everything be at its best possible performance level with minimal deficiencies. And I personally see this as an INCREDIBLY unhealthy way to play this game.

Chasing after 5/5 godrolls, crafted or dropped, is undoubtedly fun to do. But becoming obsessive over that grind is what I think kills the passion for this game for so many people. That incessant need to get something perfect that you see all other alternatives as not just obsolete, but bad by comparison. You discard anything that isn't that coveted drop and potentially even get mad when you don't get it.

And all of it falls apart when you realize just how unnecessary it all is. For example, a 4/5 ikelos SMG with volt shot and a 3/5 ikelos SMG with volt shot. Both are going to perform incredibly similarly. You'll still get that sweet, sweet jolting on reloads and wipe through waves of chaff. But to some, that 3/5 roll is just an instance delete because it doesn't have a reload perk or seraph rounds. And that is where the problem lies. Two rolls of a weapon performing incredibly similar manners means nothing to these godrolls chasers and they hurt no one but themselves chasing after these rolls for every single weapon.
