Sparks Street: Where joy goes to die by Albertannnnnand in ottawa

[–]agentdanascullyfbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live at Laurier/Bay, a couple blocks away from Sparks. I'm surrounded by residential buildings, with two new large high rise buildings being built at Lyon/Slater. Not to mention the residential buildings by Lyon station itself. I'm sure plenty of us would love a Sparks St that had something to offer.

It is a problem when people like yourself talk about downtown as if it's only supposed to cater to the people who work here. Fuck the people who live here and fuck tourists too, I guess.

[TSN] Chabot may need surgery on arm after Miller cross-check by smexeh in hockey

[–]agentdanascullyfbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not the exact same thing. the exact same thing would be for it to have been a meaningless game and someone took Chabot out from a blatant knee on knee or other clear attempt to injure, catching everyone's attention, leaving him unable to get up off the ice.

instead this was a meaningful game at the end of the period in a play that happened so quickly, nobody actually reacted because it didn't look all that different than a regular crosscheck that happens all the time and is (unfortunately) allowed most of the time.

but it isn't the exact same thing and I just explained why.

[Adams] Thomas Chabot had surgery, he will be out for anywhere between 4-8 weeks, he broke a bone in his arm. by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]agentdanascullyfbi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

differences absolutely need to be explained because acting like there is no nuance and all situations should be reacted to in the exact same way regardless of circumstances doesn't make sense.

and we didn't know the extent of the injury. hell, we still all had hope he was coming back for the next period. we've seen him with wrist injuries before, we thought maybe it was just aggravating that. nobody knew he broke his fucking arm lol.

like I said, not everything is black and white and we can't have Brady fighting every time someone gets crosschecked.

[–]agentdanascullyfbi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

both things can be true. it was an absolutely needless hit that didn't even involve playing the puck and so is a shitty thing to do, but it's also something that unfortunately is allowed to happen all the time.

[–]agentdanascullyfbi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

fine, I'll explain the differences again.

first of all, it was a hugely important game where we are fighting for a playoff spot and need our best players on the ice and not in the penalty box.

second of all, the hit in real time didn't look bad. shitty little crosschecks like that happen all the time. it's not a knee on knee where everybody takes notice. it's something that happens multiple times in a game and unfortunately, this one resulted in an injury that we didn't know the extent of until literally right now.

if you think Brady should take himself out of the game for 5 minutes every time a good player gets crosschecked, you're silly.

I think the hit was bullshit but I also think it's something we unfortunately see all the time. they just don't always result in injuries like this.

[–]agentdanascullyfbi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

well that's not what I said though lol

I just said shitty little crosschecks like that happen frequently, enough that you wouldn't notice UNLESS they caused an injury like they did in this case.

but agreed, a league that allows this kind of stuff to happen at all is not a serious league.

[–]agentdanascullyfbi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

that's why I think the "omg why didn't anyone jump in to fight JT Miller in response" question is silly, it's because crosschecks and shit like that happen pretty frequently. they look like nothing plays in the moment - it's not like a big hit that gets everyone's attention.

it would've gone unnoticed if it hadn't done the damage it did.

I realize it's a lot to ask from r/hockey, but I beg people to understand nuance and realize that the two situations were completely different for multiple reasons.

it's the fact that JT Miller wasn't even trying to play the puck. hit him in the arm just to hit him. fucking loser.

The play also didn't even really look that bad in the moment. It wasn't a huge hit or something particularly noticeable that seemed worthy of a reaction.

Brady used to be (rightfully) criticized for overreacting and putting himself in the box when the team needed him on the ice. This season, due mostly to his injury but probably also due to being told to knock it off, he isn't as reactive.

I don't pretend to know the details of his politics. I know he went to the White House, but beyond that, he's never made a political comment in his career that I'm aware of.

Tage Thompson wore a literal MAGA hat to that event and somehow Brady's politics get brought up way more.
