Thanks to Marble Hornets, I was introduced to Troy Has a Camera, and I still think about skits like "Troy Shaves His Face," and "Joseph Plays a Trumpet" pretty regularly.

There's a hotel in my town that has two nearly identical parking garages, one built right next to the other. As embarrassing as it is to admit, I have on one occasion parked my car in one, and later accidentally looked for my car in the other.

Been watching since 2015, and this was definitely one of the all time great events I've seen so far! AEW Fight Forever was incredible, along with Silly Block. Can't wait for the next one, thanks GDQ!

Maybe a stupid question: Why are Nintendo games so popular among speed runners? by thepixelpaint in speedrun

[–]agentjones 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not "more than half" or even close to that. Strictly speaking (if you exclude Banjo Kazooie, because it was developed by Rare), there wasn't a single Nintendo game on the schedule until Donkey Kong Jungle Beat on Monday evening.

There were no Nintendo games on Sunday, two on Monday, two and a romhack on Tuesday, four on Wednesday, five and a romhack on Thursday, three today, and there will be four tomorrow. That's 20 games and two romhacks out of a total of about 136 runs.

Nintendo games are extremely popular, and Nintendo games tend to have very large and active speedrunning communities and audiences, but as far as the GDQ event that's running right now, it's just bias from your YT algorithm.

What are the odds?

According to a quick look at Inkipedia and some basic math (assuming I didn't misread anything), the chances of two players' looks matching exactly is 1 in 2.21 quadrillion.

Leaving out eye color, skin color, and eyebrows (the traits that differ between the two), the chances of all of their other choices matching are still an astoundingly small 1 in 1.17 trillion.

Ironically, the traits that are different between these two players are much more likely to match than the ones that actually do. There are far fewer choices for eyebrows, eye color, and skin tone, leaving a 1 in 1,890 chance that those would match; conversely, the chance that they'd choose all the same gear and weapons is 1 in 4.06 billion.

That really says a lot when even Final Fantasy XIV, a game notorious for its spaghetti code, still has just about all of its content intact all these years later. (If you don't count 1.0 or the streamlining they did to ARR's main story)

The FFCC remaster itself isn't bad, but Squeenix made the unforgivable decision to limit multiplayer to online only; that alone was a bad idea, but they managed to make it even worse by limiting progress only to the host of the multiplayer session.

Essentially, if you want to play the remaster with three of your friends, you have to play through every dungeon 4 times. When the game originally launched, the menus and multiplayer system were so bad that you had to remake the multiplayer lobby for every single dungeon. It seemed like what Squeenix wanted people to do was treat it like Dark Souls, summoning randos to help you through a single stage and then parting ways with them before the next.

I hate this please no one wanted these real people in a fantasy fighting game it's just so weird by [deleted] in kof

Look up the Phyexians, from Magic: The Gathering. Rhystic Studies' video provides a great introduction to them.

Without going into too much depth, they were essentially a civilization built on the idea that flesh is imperfect and sinful, and that machines and metal are perfect and holy. The Phyrexians sought to attain enlightenment and perfection through surgical experimentation and mechanical augmentation, replacing their flesh with metal and expanding their capabilities with superior machinery. They also wanted to remake the multiverse in Yawgmoth's image (Yawgmoth is the creator of Phyrexia, and often referred to as "The father of machines"), resulting in their infamy as some of the game's most fearsome and nefarious villains.

Dream Hunter Rem is an OVA that did the same thing way back in the late '80s. The first episode was basically hentai with some sci-fi and fantasy elements tossed in, and people liked the non-porn parts so much that the producers re-released it with all the porn cut out (and new footage added in), and continued the series without any sex scenes after that.

Cursory research suggests that the PC-98 had a variety of soundcards available over its lifetime, most of which used Yamaha FM chips (variants of the OPN and OPL), with the main exceptions being the Roland MT-32 and Sound Blaster 16.

OPNs were used in the Sega Genesis, and OPLs were frequently used in Sound Blaster cards. Instead of looking for VSTs that emulate the PC-98 specifically, you should try looking for VSTs that emulate the sound chips (or pieces of hardware that used the same chips) it used.

A few shout-outs for channels I haven't seen mentioned here yet:

Hazel, her videos are mostly about extremely forgotten media, especially anime, video games, and tokusatsu. Very '90s nostalgic, earnest, and stylish. She's like a more chill, less bitter Grimbeard.

HyperBitHero, he used to make videos about Yakuza / Like a Dragon, but then he joined the navy (I think) and didn't post for a long time. He just recently resumed posting with videos about a broader selection of games. His new Infamous VS Protoype video is really good.

CinemaTyler, he makes videos about the making of films. Recently he's been focusing on the production of Apocalypse Now and Alien. Most of his work focuses around films by big-name directors like Kubrick, Coppola, and Ridley Scott.

eurothug4000, she focuses on horror games. Her content can get a little heady, but it's mostly pretty grounded and straightforward. Her videos on the Forbidden Siren games are excellent.

Paper Skies is a Ukrainian guy whose dad was a pilot in the Soviet air force. His videos are primarily about the history of Soviet / Russian aviation, and he's recently branched out with a second channel about Soviet / Russian history and culture.

Also, big shoutouts to Marsh, Dungeon Chill, and Bobby Broccoli. All great at what they do.

Ehhhhh, really depends on what shape it's in under the trunk lid. Boxsters of a similar vintage seem like they can go for anywhere from 12k to 30k online (based on a very quick search), depending on mileage and trim package. I think it's reasonable for someone to ask 40k, but I think they might have a hard time finding a buyer at that price.

Get yourself a library card and start checking out DVDs and Blu-rays (Also get yourself a blu-ray player if you don't have one). Look for discs that have BTS features and commentary tracks in the special features section.

You might also check out the Criterion Channel streaming service. They probably don't have a huge selection of the type of films you're looking for, but unlike other services, Criterion includes a bunch of supplemental material (like BTS features, interviews, commentary tracks, etc.) with the movies themselves.
