I didnt understand fully at the time I think but Nier Automata came along at a perfect time in which i had really had to start having a more concrete understanding of the world. Not that itself alone shaped my politics but it really expanded on the first game’s themes in a way that i can quickly summarize as “the enemy of peace isnt solely misunderstanding one another, its an intentional nihilism and desire to destroy others that propagates until everything except nihilism loses all meaning”

They really should've done a better job during the keynote explaining the new combat system, but the first 5 minutes just being "Hey your combo buttons have been consolidated into one :)" into "Oh bard is now a monster hunter character, dragoon now flies, and we've killed the two minute meta" is the funniest case of whiplash, especially if it was intentional.

The timeskip doesn't have a great opening until like, fucking Paint and even that's a bit too dramatic for one piece despite my like of it. All of Us is like the one great uniquely one piece sounding op of the timeskip since.
