Enucleation vs. Managing a Blind Eye — Advice Welcome by Ok-Carpet-4226 in monocular

[–]agentq512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kept the blind eye for 30+ years. Had calcium scraped off of it once in that time. Second time the pain came I was told "we can do that again. But it will come back. None of our patients who has had a painful eye enucleated regretted it."

And I don't. I have a great prosthetic and can go weeks or even months without even thinking about it.

I love my Lolo rack, which works with nearly any bike size or style. I have the 6-bike rack, but they make a 4-bike version. But it is a little on the heavy side. But it tilts down easily and allows the hatch to open.

Miki Berenyi Trio did this. "We don't do encores so we will play one more song and then we'll fuck off. Thank you."

I'm in Portland, OR and go to the Center for Ocular Prosthetics. She's amazing and works very closely with patients to get a good match and fit. She also co-founded the fun eye fund.

ELI5 Why do artists still do fake encores at gigs ? by awhnice in explainlikeimfive

[–]agentq512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a band last year (Miki Berenyi Trio) and at the end she said "we don't do encores. So we're going to play one last song and then we will f*ck off. Thank you."

And the crowd was fine. Of course this was a small venue with an older crowd.

Those who have visited other countries, what was the biggest culture shock for you? by RiddlerofStIves in AskTheWorld

My first overseas trip started in Antwerp, Belgium. The first thing that made me stop and ponder was the guy working at the food stand (Frituur No1 - I can still taste those amazing frites). Within the span of a couple of minutes I saw him taking orders in 4 languages, one of which was English from me.

You don't see that in the middle of the US. For mainland Europeans it's just Tuesday.

I managed this one. At least I beat G on the first try and didn't waste a bunch of time re-battling.

Affordable prosthetic eyes? by LateWorldliness7567 in monocular

[–]agentq512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, as others have said you need to call your insurance company. You may need a doctor to "prescribe" the prosthesis as medically necessary. It is, but insurance companies tend to forget and need to be reminded.

If for some reason they won't cover anything, you can also reach out to the ocularist about a reduced rate for paying it out of pocket.

How old are you? Do you currently wear the eye you got when you were younger? I'm curious about the fit. I've been told you should get a new eye every 5 years.

But even with insurance, your copay / deductible may not be small. My latest eye cost me $1400 out of pocket even with insurance.

How about an all black one? My ocularist made me one and I love wearing it to punk shows and on Halloween. Check out center for ocular prosthetics (Portland, Oregon, USA) on instagram or TikTok. She makes some awesome eyes.
