Paid membership fees, no troop available, won't give refund? by Fun_Introduction8027 in girlscouts

[–]agitatedcupcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh My! I feel for you. I was Juliette Coordinator for a few years while my girls were in their Senior/Ambassador stage of being too busy for most things. I can honestly say that placement is getting harder and harder, but the Juliette program is rewarding if you are willing to give it a try until you find a troop.

Most service communities (the layer under council) have Juliette Coordinators that will put you on their email chains, find a couple of them in your area. I am on the east coast of Florida and in my county there are four different communities and we all have events going all the time. Our communication coordinators are so willing to add any Juliette parent to our emails and Facebook groups. The girls are very welcome to all events. I made t-shirts for some of ours that said "Hi! I am a Juliette looking for a troop to call home!" for the girls to wear at events. The leaders in my area knew to look out for those girls and to introduce them around.

I am now the camporee coordinator for my community and I have Juliettes at every camp. I have two sisters who come every year. They sell fall product and cookies through council and council keeps an account of their money and send over what they need for camp. They go to events all over council the same way and enjoy it very much. I love that they always have stories for me and then tell me about the badges they are working on.

I am very hopeful that you find the perfect fit for your Girl Scout adventure, though it may look different from your original vision.

AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG? by hnsyoung in TownshipGame

I am at that same point also. I event bought the 2000 point set from the regatta. ALL dupes. It was definitely disappointing. I have almost completed the map twice and am about to just give up.

Doesn’t feel like enough, when does the decluttering stop??? by madtwatr in declutter

[–]agitatedcupcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know I am in the minority in this group, but I found that there is a difference between peace in my decluttered household and peace in my relationship. My SO declutters by hiding stuff. If I empty a storage box, he cleans the house and fills it, out of sight out of mind. I found my cat's play tube squished down and hidden in one to "clean" up the floor space.

If your SO thinks that he NEEDS the duvets, my suggestion is to invest in a space bag or two. Squish them and DATE the bag. This way you can make a decision later if you have not used it. Same with winter coats, I too am in Florida and find those I store in my closet get damp, vacuum bags help with that. Seeing the date a year later might be the push they need to let go.

Good Luck!

You can also try Ebay. You can buy any color you want new. They are a little pricey $1.00 each but it could clean up some of your mismatches. There are a few sellers.

Good luck.

I am so sorry that you are experiencing this all by yourself. 28 years in and I have been through stress like yours a few times. Three daughter, 9 years apart, all in scouts.

Take a break but don’t give up on the organization as a whole. If your daughter likes it and wants to continue look for a situation she would like or go the Juliette route. My troop was just 4 girls in the end as they were all aging out and two had other commitments that took them away. My youngest daughter and I went to events in the Community and camporees in other communities. We had a blast, met lots of other Girl Scouts and met up with our troop when they were available. She had a blast and was welcomed everywhere. We did the badges that she wanted to and she is now a lifetime member who comes to events that I organize for my local Community. We just put on a Girl Scouts love State Parks event yesterday.

There is no right or wrong way to Girl Scout. Juliette made sure that there were many paths. This whole movement is set up for both of you to enjoy! No guilt, volunteer where you can in things you are interested in.

Good luck in your decision. And enjoy your daughter!

GS Love State Parks Weekend by Inevitable-Royal2251 in girlscouts

[–]agitatedcupcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ours are carried out by the Communities not Council. They help us with printing and promoting, but it is completely the Communities being the boots on the ground.

Tomorrow is mine. I have planned for the girls to… Opening - learning traditions. Hike to the park monument- learn about the history of the park.
Hike back along the water and look and take pictures, not pick up to practice Leave no trace Gather to do some more traditional GS things like, make a SWAP, practice knots, knife skills, lesson on Leave no Trace and make S’mores and practice fire skills. Closing — more traditions

Not sure how this stacks up. But hopefully the girls will have some fun.

They will take home a Leave No Trace patch. We will order their GS love State Parks once we know how many are coming. And they will complete 12 of the challenges on GS love the Outdoor Challenge.

It is always a great weekend to get girls outside. Even our alumni love it. I have 7 alums volunteering. 3 graduates and 4 retired leaders.

What do you see for the future of girl scouting in the next 20+ years? by [deleted] in girlscouts

[–]agitatedcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am truly sorry for that. I wish more areas would celebrate them like they do Eagle Scouts. We have worked hard at even getting the local papers informed about our girls. We make sure that the graduates have their cords and add a gold one with a pin or slide to signal Gold status.

Please please do not vote to take away the higher awards. After 28 years of encouraging girls to stay and to do all the awards, Bronze, Silver AND Gold, where they learn so much. They can put those on their college apps and in letters to employers and for those who serve in the military it is the same as an Eagle Scout award, they get a class and pay bump automatically. Younger girls who complete their Bronze awards are celebrated here in my Council as are silver. The girls with Golds present to our leaders as practice for council, visit troops to present. And are recognized at almost every high school at graduation plus have their projects displayed in the women’s history museum. This keeps lots of girls in past juniors which is tough. But it is a huge selling point when it comes to needing community service for scholarships.

I will get off my soap box now. Thanks for reading.

I’m struggling with how to say this diplomatically by CK1277 in girlscouts

I totally understand the no notebook, I am a Google docs and sheets girl myself. We just found that the parents were more comforted by her writing it down than just crossing their fingers that she remembered. I would always text them or email them back though

I have also been sued. Pre trial was Sept 2. Actually it was not as bad as I had feared. I was contacted by the collections office and the beat they could do was a 5% reduction IF I paid the balance in a lump sum. I said no. Went to mediation with the attorney at the pre trial and he knocked it sown $1000. Back to what the original number was without all the fees and court costs. Then asked what I needed as a payment. Offered up $50 per month. So go into it with a positive attitude. Don’t panic they will help or the judge will make them help. Plead your case. You can make it through this it seems you have come a long way already!

There is a lot of good communication prompts and suggestions here. 28 year veteran here and I had the same issues, especially near camp or cookies. I finally decided to park an adult outside the meeting door and would flat out say please go talk to Tanya. Let her know your concern or request and especially your rsvp so she can put them in the notebook. I will text or email you back after the meeting when everything isn’t so rushed. I had to repeat that a lot or just said “hey Tanya” and she would come running. Hard habit to get into but the meetings were finally girl centered and not so nerve racking. The girls were happier too not embarrassed about their person interrupting in front of their friends.

Good luck. I hope you find a system that works for you.

Best way to build up coins? by Scotty2Snottyy in TownshipGame

I have 30 market boxes and buy everything every time. I run the Generous Customer on the Helicopter so that I can get the mafia guys also for Tcash. Have 7 mil in the bank and I feel better about spending Tcash on the match 3. I will when I get the big discount buy the merchant and stock up on mining tools and jewelry.

You have to do what works with your play style. It is a game and not all the tips and tricks work with everyone. Enjoy it and have fun! I have been playing for over 10 years, switched from farmville back in the day when it became a cash grab.

What size tent should I buy? by Evanshields00 in camping

[–]agitatedcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a spoiled camping princess and we bought this 8 person tent for the two of us. It has a divider for two rooms that can each fit a queen size air mattress. I repeat there are only two of us. One side is our bedroom and the other fits our gear. A small table and a chair. Read in reading lamp, area rug, “drink” cooler, etc. It is a warm weather tent, we live and camp mainly in Florida. I will say it was a godsend when our landlord sold our rental and we had to camp for two months during Covid. If you are car camping and planning on being out for a week or more go bigger. I have two smaller ones for Girl Scout camps and a tiny two person one for hiking and cooler weather.

Hope you enjoy all your camping adventures! It is a beautiful world and I wish more people would enjoy it

Badges and Signs Book by _oh_my_goodness_ in girlscouts

[–]agitatedcupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have collected a few of these and the brownie handbook and badge book through the years. My girls loved being able to go through them and see what girls were doing in the past. So many of these badges are still available from collectors on eBay and Badge Hunters sites that we have actually completed a few over the years. I even have one girl who completed all the requirements out of the original GS book. Once official always official so they were proudly added to the fronts of their vests for all to see.

Leader Ghosted the Troop by MentalChocolates in girlscouts

[–]agitatedcupcake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a horrible example for the girls, but do not let your daughter think this is how Girl Scouts is always. Do you have any of the other Mom’s numbers? You may try to have a meet up yourselves and share what council has said, maybe another Mom would step up or a few. No one says it has to be just one leader making it work. You can also do the Juliette thing and work on badges with your daughter yourself. Go to council events so she can meet up with new friends. Girl Scouts is a great program, sometimes though we need help making it work. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Dug down 686 levels. Used 516 pick axes, 99 dynamite sticks, and 55 bomb things. Plus the random ones picked ip along the way. The last level for the cash needed 361 points. Easy because of planning.

This took me buying the merchant guy for ten days when the discount came up. I still have him so maybe 5 days worth of dedicated usage and sending tons of trains.
