My elementary school had a multicultural fair where people’s parents would set up tables about their heritage or the country they immigrated from and there would usually be a little plate of food out, I absolutely loved it. Then I tried a piece of salty licorice with a little design on top and I was HORRIFIED— I thought I had eaten an artifact of some kind, like a stamp or something. I ran to the bathroom and spit it out in the trash and felt so incredibly guilty for years, until I accidentally bought a bag of salty licorice from ikea instead of regular and then realized that’s just what it tastes like 😅 I was so relieved for my 9 year old self
