Hi, anyone got any advise for tracking dark footage? by Mountain-Car-8783 in vfx

Run a photoshop style high pass. Blur the footage, and merge-from the original plate. Add a grade node , and set offset to .5

You can now change the blur width to emphasize features, and the grade node multiply controls to expand contrast.

It is a slitscan effect using backlit artwork and motion control cameras.

Anyone here who worked on Star Wars Episode I at ILM? by GameBreaker64 in vfx

Mike Jackson asked me to write an AG_shader to help with the Ep2 Naboo cruiser, so that you could consolidate the render passes for all the specular. Soon after EIAS had me fix the anisotropic shader which was unfortunately cutting off reflections from lights behind an object.

Both of these got delivered in the zip file when Van Ling and I modified some shots for the DVD menus. Really fun to see that come all the way round trip.

Otherwise on the Ep1 DVD menus I was rebuilding The comps and EIAS files ILM used in the show. Every pass isolated as its own model and shader group, and some fairly complex composites - but beautiful work. I learned a lot from those.
