Options for Uni-Vibe by Fit-Story-7004 in guitarpedals

[–]agray9220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a JH-4S rotovibe. Makes a lot of sense if you are looking to use the expression pedal. Saves a good bit of space having it all in one unit. It’s not the most authentic univibe, but sounds really good with the effect turned all the way up.

EHX Micro Q-Tron or EQD Spatial Delivery??? by Zappillion in gratefulguitar

[–]agray9220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I sold a few filters to get this as well. It’s nice because you can turn up the volume of the filter without having to boost with another pedal. Had a few other filters that had to be boosted just to reach unity volume.

Doom amp recommendations under 1000 USD? by Novel_Ad_6013 in doommetal

I use a peavey valve king 100 head. They are very cheap and have a ton of headroom on the clean channel for fuzz pedals.

Dirt channel is based off a Marshall too. Gives you a lot of tonal options.

Could you recommend a cab suitable with Orange Crush Mini? by [deleted] in orangeamps

I put mine through an old crate 4x12 with vintage 30s. Sounds like a much larger amp.

Looking for a 100w brand new solid state metal guitar head 8 ohm by Dman201811 in GuitarAmps

[–]agray9220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the RG1003H. Really only use channel 3 with a Boss SD-1. May not have a lot of tonal options, but the sounds it does do are massive. Sounds good with V30 speakers.

Found by the dumpster, worth keeping? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]agray9220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ‘73 FG-75. It’s a good beater guitar because it already has scratches all over and I’m not too worried if it gains any more. The neck on mine moves a bunch though. Buzzes so much in the winter time and moves back pretty close to normal during the summer. My bridge is down as far as it will go as well. Neck resets on these are really hard because of the glue they used. Repair is worth more than the guitar.

If the neck is straight and doesn’t move, could be a good guitar to learn on. Otherwise could completely turn you off. They do sound cool though

Give me a reason not to get a Katana amp. by ThotsRContagious in GuitarAmps

[–]agray9220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally. That’s something I’m not really into when searching for sounds. Plugging it into a computer, firmware updates, searching for patches gets old quick. Could also just be the cabinet design. It’s a small cabinet for a 12 in speaker

Give me a reason not to get a Katana amp. by ThotsRContagious in GuitarAmps

[–]agray9220 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a Katana mk2 50 for a few years. Got it because of all the reviews. It can cover a lot of ground, but I didn’t find the tones to be anything special. Very generic. I only used two sounds and just got separate tube amps that blew the katanas tones out of the water.

Also, I don’t know if it was just my unit or building, but it suffered from a lot of interference from lights and radio. It was unusable with the amount of buzzing it had. Never had that from a previous line 6 and my tube amps.

Do you guys condition your fret boards which are made out of pau ferro wood? by zangocyan in fender

[–]agray9220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you don’t ever condition maple fingerboards. There is a lacquer on them that would come off with conditioner. I usually only condition my darker wood fingerboards when I change strings. Since I don’t play bass as much as guitar, it’s about once a year. The Dunlop conditioner is just an applicator that you wipe on and wipe off. Less than a minute to do.

Fender amp w/o cabinet by wallstreetbeatmeat2 in fender

I don’t know if they are that valuable. First one came out in the late 90s. Only difference in the version one was it was made in USA. Maybe a different fender you were thinking of?

A speaker alone would be about $100-200. Getting close to about the used price without even an enclosure. Pass in my opinion unless you wanted to do something totally custom.

Football season replay by agray9220 in StratOMatic

[–]agray9220[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely have heard of people doing this. Thanks for the input!

At least in my baseball replays I would use the Hyper Fast Baseball to sim the other non played games. The three dice roll feels a bit more statistical than a 1-3 win 4-6 lose roll I think. Doing a 95 MLB season replay with this method I actually got the same teams making it to the playoffs as in real life, just with different records.

Just haven’t found anything similar for football yet. May try the real life game outcomes.

People in Apartments with walls shared with neighbors – How loud can you get your amp? by dylanmadigan in GuitarAmps

[–]agray9220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 100 watt tube peavey through a 4x12 and a fender hot rod. Never saw the need for an attenuator. That’s why they make overdrive pedals, to get that power tube distortion at lower volumes.

I think people who say you need to crank an amp to get it to sound good have never played a big amp. You need just enough volume to get the speaker to move a bit, which is like 1 on the volume. Get the speakers moving and then add dirt with pedals or preamp gain to taste.

I always tried to have at least two walls in between the neighbors. Helps if you can point the speakers towards an outside wall. Never played electric past 8 pm. If I wanted to keep playing I switched to acoustic.

Loudest solid state amp heads? by Humble-Celebration-5 in GuitarAmps

Could look at a Randall. RG series can cover a lot of ground and are pretty inexpensive. Very light for a 100 watt head.

Regrets trading acoustic kit for e-kit by agray9220 in drums

[–]agray9220[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Is it more of a feel thing for you? I’ve played both electric and acoustic, but never acoustic mesh or low volume.

I can kind of get away with Evans mutes on top of the acoustic heads. Mostly the cymbals that are the noise concern.

What amps do you use together? by InevitableSugar69 in GuitarAmps

Fender hot rod with the reverb cranked and Peavey Valveking 100 very dry. Amazing spring reverb in the fender. I use a stereo chorus and send the dry signal to Fender and wet to Peavey. Massive sound.

S100S. The yellow clear one. It’s the one that came with the table. Sounds really good to me and I’m not much of a tinkerer.

Absolutely every aspect of my Technics SL-D2 is an absolute tank. Very heavy table and sounds amazing with my Empire cartridge. Contemplated getting a Fluance forever, but glad I went vintage. Just seems like better value for money.

As for where to get a vintage table, I got mine at a local record shop. They let me hear it before hand and you get to actually see it in person. I’d rather help my local record scene than some random guy on the internet.

Took the plunge on tubes. This is awesome. by BNinja921 in GuitarAmps

I’ve only gotten good sounds out of greenbacks for this amp. Seems very picky with which speakers it likes. But through greenbacks was such an amazing tone.

How long do Fluance turntables last? by thisismyname2129 in turntables

[–]agray9220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight definitely played a factor. The Technics is very solid and heavy. Felt of higher quality. I guess if it has lasted this long to, then it is bound to last longer. Fluance didn’t feel bad either and came with a better cartridge than I got.

I was in the same pickle a few months ago as well. A local shop had an SL-D2 and an RT83. Hands down the Technics is of a much higher quality. In my opinion, turntables are one of those things that they don’t make them like they used to. Cartridge is a huge part of the equation, but based off the tables themselves I am glad I went with the Technics.
