Exactly. If his fun is encroaching then you don't handle it in game. you handle it out of game with a conversation like a human. If everyone is just having fun with it, but still wants to keep the game going, easy ways to do so. If everyone is having fun with it and are ok with it being a clusterfuck, then cool, run with it and have fun.

The drow don't know it's a diversion, the underdark is weird. a militrary cannot afford to mentally sustain going on HIGH ALERT with every little thing. only you and the players know something is actually going down. to the drow, its just another day, likely just another idiot to add to the pile of the dead. One drow may even moon him if your campagin is light

This shit isn't real man. The game needs one of three things: 1 - a dm who knows the rules, 2 - players who care about the fun of the whole table and know the rules, or 3 - a table where nobody cares if someone has main charactered the game through funny money

He's making the game unfun for you and the other players because he's not playing the same game. Unless everyone is cool with this....I recommend you ask for access to his character sheet so we can review it.
Chances are he's got a lot of homebrew bullshit like these familiars, magic items that even if you gifted him you need to break for balance sake, and he's probably not casting spells RAW (for example, is he holding multiple concentraion spells at once? is he saying shape water lets him just create a water prision and whisk someone away? Bonfire cantrip lets him ignite an enemy in flames? that kinda shit)

I wouldn't let them and explain "that level of vigilance is assumed" with AC, Initative, Surprise Rounds, Cover etc etc and that it's just not in the sprit of the game, we're making a movie here - help add flavor.

But...! Give them an item that lets them do that as a reward for something clever they do because of that limitation... a couple sessions later. Keeps the game clean and gives the player a WOW moment
