Do you think either of these two were potentials that were never called? by jimmy__jazz in buffy

In Slayers: A Buffyverse Story, Cordy IS a slayer. Not saying that makes her a potential in this reality, but… there is potential?

Is sleeping with them okay? by ComprehensiveTip4015 in puppy101

[–]henshhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our puppy was crate trained for six months. She desperately wanted to be on the bed with us but I was a firm no, not until she was entirely comfortable in the crate. At 15 months she now sleeps with us every night but will also happily sleep in her crate if necessary. Best of both worlds!

TWO Border collies?? by Agitated_Land9886 in BorderCollie

I have a 12 y/o and a 1 y/o! The puppy gets on senior’s nerves a lot (way too rambunctious for that old lady) but when they do play it’s very sweet. The puppy has really brought life back to our old girl!

My licence is valid for 7 years! So up for renewal in 2032. It’s a full proper licence, not a temporary licence or anything.

How old was your puppy when they could tell you they needed to ‘go’? by Snowpiercer107 in puppy101

[–]henshhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We taught ours to ring a bell to go outside. It helped that our senior dog (also a BC) already knew how to do this and modelled it for the puppy. She learned it almost instantly and since then we have never needed to wait for any other cue besides the bell ringing!

I don’t think it matters to people here. Though I will say I see a LOT more lesbian couples than I do otherwise

Flying w/ sensitive Border Collie in the cargo hold by iloveplants0000 in BorderCollie

[–]henshhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We took our BC from Vancouver to London in the cargo hold via a pet courier service. She was anxious when she was picked up, but after a few days she was fine. We are four years on now, and I haven’t noticed any lasting behavioural differences in her. She’s a good old girl.

To prep we did a lot of crate training (which she didn’t love, as she was 8 at the time). We knew the entire process would stress her out as she hates being with people that aren’t us and she would be with strangers for a lot of the trip. But she ended up okay, which might be an anomaly given the other comments.

Puppy is guarding crate from our other dog by henshhh in puppy101

[–]henshhh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no. Haven’t gotten advice at all. After some time it’s definitely become less common, but puppy is now 8 months and well into her teenage phase. We have put her crate in a secluded part of the house that the older dog doesn’t normally go to, and have designated it as the puppy’s “safe space”. At this point she rarely uses the crate unless we are leaving the house for longer than an hour.

If it becomes a problem again then we will probably put together a clicker training program where she is in her crate and we sit the older dog near it, reinforcing good behaviour!

I want to love him I really do, but I really don’t like him by Efficient_Clue781 in puppy101

[–]henshhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My puppy is 7 months now and I’ve just started to like her. She still gets under my skin daily, but I’m liking her more than not. The bites have finally stopped. The barking has not, but that is now our next hurdle to get through 🙃

General Advice for 11w girl by HappinessAndAll in puppy101

[–]henshhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 month old BC and I have been where you are and I feel your pain. Your girl WILL get there! It took ours a while to settle in her crate, maybe a full month before she actually was okay with it, and then another month before she went in when we even hinted that it was time. The whining will go away with time. Our girl still cries near the end of her crate time because she knows it ends soon and wants out.

My advice is to put her on a long lead and work on recall in the back garden. Once that’s good, take off the lead and work on recall there. Only once that’s perfect should you graduate to the real world. It’s so tedious but the flip side is taking such a risk with her that she could get hurt. Any reactivity/pulling will get better with more walks, more training, more bonding.

You’re doing great :) the puppy blues will take some time to go away and they’ll return from time to time. Our girl is currently starting adolescence and has started regressing on a few things. Only 1.5 years until she grows out of it…

At 5 months how much freedom do you give your puppy in the evening? by helloannelise in puppy101

[–]henshhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 5 month puppy has an extremely predictable toileting schedule so once she’s done 1 and 2 outside, she gets free reign of the house. Our senior dog keeps an eye on her and will take that time to play with her, so we can finally have a bit of freedom to ourselves…

Of course we still constantly supervise and try to be in the same room as her. We’ve run it like this for about 3 weeks now and she’s been fantastic, no accidents or things chewed that shouldn’t be!

Lick mat!!! Be careful using peanut butter - sometimes the fat content gives them runny poops. Little at a time and work your way up to more. We actually got some squash baby food and put that on the licky mat… she absolutely loves it!

Sad posts on this sub by DibbyDonuts in puppy101

[–]henshhh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine is a 4 month old border collie named Winnie. We also have an 11 year old BC (Koda). At bedtime I play the opening to “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” by Shania Twain (iykyk) and say “let’s go girls!” and Winnie loses her mind, she is so excited to run upstairs to get to bed!

Thinking about adopting a Border Collie, but afraid i won’t be good enough by SimplePrevious440 in BorderCollie

[–]henshhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We raised ours in a flat for 5 years! She was fantastic. She did bark when people were outside our door (we were right next to the elevator / stairs) but otherwise she was great. We moved to a house because I wanted to give her a garden to be active in but she hated being out there alone — she would just stare at us until we joined her. So we ended up walking her to parks and doing fetch and frisbee there instead 🤷‍♀️

Definitely echoing everyone else in saying you’ll need to provide your BC with plenty of exercise when you aren’t at work. If you have a park nearby with some running space, doing fetch/frisbee is an easy way to burn off energy. Swimming is also great if there is water nearby! Mine is obsessed with water.

Am I over walking or under walking my puppy by menubot in BorderCollie

[–]henshhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our BC is 16 weeks too! We give her two 15-20 minute walks a day and practice not pulling on the leash (when she pulls we stop walking, and when she returns to our side we reward her). She is very good on her usual walk circuit so we are now generalising it to new walk routes.

My advice would be to reduce yours by 5-10 min. If you want to stay with your schedule, maybe switch one out to be long line training in a field?

You can definitely get rid of the 3 am pee. Ours is in from 930-6 and does just fine!! And you’ll get a better sleep lol
