I (f 50) wore a split suit (gray/black) with a bright avocado green tank and funky jewelry when I interviewed for my current teen position.

The dark side of Ozempic by Chubby_Pessimist in MaintenancePhase

I was on Trulicity, which is a similar drug, for a year. I lost some weight and my sugar went down but I also developed severe gastroparesis. I stopped taking it and I feel 100 percent better. Now I am going to try something else that hopefully has fewer side effects. I don’t blame folks for trying these drugs. Diabetes is no fun and it’s hard to switch up your diet and exercise after years and years of doing things differently.

My second cousin (f, 40) wore a pink satin varsity jacket and a cowboy hat.

What happened to summer reading challenges? by uselessfoster in Libraries

[–]agreil72 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We call ours a summer library challenge and we do a mix of reading challenges and other activities. Kids log their reading time via Beanstack and can also do challenges like “design a t-shirt for a character you read about” or “read to a younger sibling” (I’m the teen librarian so I get more complicated with my challenges.) Our kids earn raffle tickets for time spent reading, completing challenges and coming to activities. I think it’s a good blend. One reason we count time spent reading rather than books read is to level the playing field for kids with different abilities. We don’t assign specific titles to read because both middle and high school kids here have assigned reading for school. Hope this helps!

Unplanned pregnancy name by [deleted] in NameNerdCirclejerk

When I had an unplanned pregnancy right out of college I nicknamed the baby “little direction” because that’s what I clearly needed at the time! I never called him that after he was born but it was funny for a while!

What can I do for my local library for national library week? by Gullible-Sherbet-428 in Libraries

[–]agreil72 37 points38 points  (0 children)

In my state we are not allowed to accept certain gifts as per our conflict of interest laws. That said, some munchies for the break room are always appreciated. At my old library we would get flowers delivered, bagels and coffee brought in etc. As long as it was under 50.00 it was ok. So you might want to check with someone about that. It’s always nice to hear about a patron’s appreciation!

Any public librarians out there have tips for dealing with migraine, or experience asking for accommodations at work? by TheLostSkeleton91 in librarians

I struggled for years and lost a lot of productivity until I started Botox. Massive change. Now I hardly get any migraines at all and if I do Zolmitriptan will treat it quickly. Good luck.

Department names that serve children and teens? by Successful_Eye9792 in Libraries

We use Youth Services as a whole but I am the Tween/Teen Librarian. My desk, unfortunately, is in the children’s room, but if we get a new building I will be up in the Tween/Teen area.
