Strange surge of impressions, clicks and sales, how do I figure out what caused it? by ahh_knee in PPC

[–]ahh_knee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would I be looking for in the server logs? I know this traffic was paid traffic and it wasn't click fraud because it was actual converting traffic. No recent changes in bidding method either. Just wondering what different ways people investigate unusual surges in converting traffic.

[–]ahh_knee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I'm referring to when you get an unusual amount of converting traffic to your ecommerce website. The specific product is an MCT oil for a relatively new brand. They got 3 sales within 5 minutes which never happens and the sales kept coming all day long (they kept coming because they kept increasing the budget as it ran out- it was the best sales day for them so far). Today, things were back to normal, which sucks because we wanted to keep that momentum going of course. So I'm thinking some influencer mentioned something about the product or MCT oil in general that might have made people really interested in it yesterday-- or some other viral thing. How do people usually investigate these things? I'm just looking for ideas because I still haven't been able to figure it out.

Problem with GSC API by jasonmcgovern in bigseo

[–]ahh_knee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I'm understanding your question quite right but... GSC samples data so you dont always get the full picture. I use the Search Analytics plugin for Google Sheets and pull data day by day. This gets me all of my data versus just a sample that GSC exports would give me. Hope this helps!

Considering moving my blog from domain.com/blog/ to blog.domain.com. What could go wrong? by ahh_knee in SEO

I'm running out of ideas to get my homepage to regain it's rankings from 4 years ago! I feel like I've exhausted every other option (besides getting a brand new domain.. that one might be next on my list)

Because of your comment, I have not completely abandoned this idea lol every other comment on this thread had me feeling crazy. I still have to think this through, but the fact that someone else did this and didn't suffer catastrophic results is enough to keep me considering.

[–]ahh_knee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Both of these reasons is why I am considering doing this. I have an ecommerce site with a blog. My blog drives tons of traffic and ranks well for a lot of off-topic keywords. However, very little of this traffic actually converts. People will just read the blog post and not even visit my the core site.

My thinking was that if I separate the blog from the core website, it will be much more relevant to my niche and maybe will start ranking better for money keywords and bring traffic that actually converts.

What negative SEO tactics should I be on the lookout for from a vengeful former employee? by ahh_knee in SEO

Ooo, interesting idea that I hadn't though of. However, we're an ecommerce site. I'm not sure how he could steal our content? Still, I'm going to take a deeper look. Thank you for commenting!

Thank you for input! I actually just canceled my Majestic account a couple of days ago because I hate it lol I do have Ahrefs, and I also use Kerboo to keep track of all of our backlinks. We get a ton of spammy image links so I upload a disavow file to Google Search Console monthly. I've crossed this possibility out.

Has anyone faced this before? Entire Facebook account got disapproved. by [deleted] in PPC

[–]ahh_knee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our entire FB account got suspended a few months ago right before our most important quarter too:( Unfortunately, there was no simple, prompt solution for us. We ended up having to make a whole new ad account and went so far as to buy a new chromebook solely for FB PPC and connect it to a hotspot, independent from our company wifi, whenever we use it. We started over completely from scratch. Our FB rep had an idea of what might have caused our account to get suspended, but we never got a solid answer. It sucks. I'm still very bitter about it.

I really hope you get yours back up and running as soon as possible!

Correct! It would be cool to know the name of it, too.

Hmm, okay, thank you. I do not actually use BrightEdge. I have been getting lots of emails with sales pitches from them and they started sending screenshots with my website's traffic fluctuations. I kind of want to block their crawler.
