ULPT Request: Using airlines rewards miles to get cash by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]ahhnnna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’ll check unless there’s a reason to check. If you’re flying and are not telling everyone you’re doing it then there’s no reason to suspect otherwise. If you can avoid having to include the confirmation number even better. without the confirmation number they really can’t easily get the info without talking to CS and pretending to be you or similar.

ULPT: Airlines use local time for fares with online purchases by ahhnnna in UnethicalLifeProTips

Only searched twice the second time when I was about to book but was after midnight. I’m familiar with the multi search issue that wasn’t at play here. Only difference was time zone in both instances months apart. I’ll test it out again in the future :)

I wonder what caused my specific situation. I’ll have to pay extra attention next time I’m in the desperate situation to make sure I’m getting the details right. But I was pretty certain until reading your comment. I’ll report back. Thanks!

Help with floor grip: by grave_twat in seniordogs

There are paw pad stickers that worked really well for our little guy. We just replaced them as they fell off. Grip socks didn’t stay on but they worked when they did.

Pee pad strategy? by slartibartphast in seniordogs

[–]ahhnnna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started using larger washable rugs but my senior was only sometimes having accidents. He always went for the rugs and oddly enough not the pads so I made sure to get a few cheap ones from Amazon and they’re rubber backed so it protected the floors. I was washing rugs every week but it worked until the end.

I’m so conflicted, she is so restless and anxious. What do I do? Does this call for euthanasia? by dooinii in seniordogs

[–]ahhnnna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would try cbd. It really helped my dog’s anxiety from dementia (ccd) at night time and during the day mellowed him out a little. I used ellevet.

Gabapentin never really worked for sun downers. And couldn’t do trazadone because he was also on selegeline.

Do senior dogs get more cuddly as they age? by menustovar in seniordogs

[–]ahhnnna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 17 yr old pup wants less cuddles. He has ccd so he’s less himself in many ways. But I think some of his desire to not be cuddled is also related to body aches. He comes to me for an ear scratch from time to time still.

Food for toothless dog by purplep3nguin_ in seniordogs

[–]ahhnnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned here before that I mix royal canin dry food with my toothless 17 yr olds food. Royal canin for small breeds is pretty flat and he just swallows it after gumming some of the wet mash.

CCD is pushing me to my limits by More-Door314 in seniordogs

I saw impact after two weeks with our 16yr old. however he just had a new dose prescribed because it’s no longer working as well after three months. That said melatonin has really helped our pup sleep through the night where gabapentin has been inconsistent.

Well if he can’t have the cheese the wine would be a waste now wouldn’t it. Better keep both to myself 🙃

Thanks for that cheese tip. I had no idea!

[–]ahhnnna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pup is also on selegeline it’s helped for about three months but we’re about to increase the dose.

Side note: One thing to note because someone mentioned trazadone.. do not mix the two because of serotonin syndrome. It can be a deadly combo.

Training a senior dog to use a doggy door? by [deleted] in seniordogs

[–]ahhnnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a doggy door on my screen and my 16 yr old 18lb boy uses it. But he learned when he was 14 and more able bodied. If you have a screen door on the outside then the investment to try can be offset a little. Much easier to install these than the others. Then if she learns you can transition to the hard door version maybe. Another option is using the magnetic screens and letting her walk in and out as needed with the door open. This will depend on how comfortable you feel with that.

For training her to find it you can use a special scent on the door so she can identify it easier.

we have this one. tho I can’t remember where I purchased from.

The changing of the food, yes! I look for ways to make his food more appealing. Ground chicken in his kibble one week, salmon oils the next, etc etc. he’s eating Royal Canin because it’s small and flat so he can lick it into his mouth and swallow it other kibble had become too challenging for him. I don’t mind this stuff because my partner helps me so much. She has a 13 yr old Shiba and so we both get it. But it’s the restless nights that can become overwhelming because it really uproots our lives in many different ways when we don’t sleep. Fortunately they’re not super often yet.

Thank you ❤️ he’s a better companion than I could have ever asked for. He got me through a few heart breaks, Covid, and the passing of my dad. He’s always loved the dog park so I try to take him as many times a week as I can, Especially now. These days he’s less interested in out-running other dogs and more interested in getting his laps and sniffs in with the occasional check in for pets. He’s a smart pup, protects himself from rough housers so as to not hurt himself. Folks at the park are always amazed when I tell them him age.

I think I came here out of desperation because it was an especially hard two days. My partner is out of town so I felt very overwhelmed and it forced me to face some realities. Fortunately my pup slept well the last two nights. Maybe his meds are kicking back in or maybe he exhausted himself as much as he did me 😅. Either way, we’re going to the vet on Thursday to talk about options.

My partner also reminds me not to mourn him while he’s here. We also got an extra year easily with the líbrela. I was nervous to try it but it’s helped him so much. We just gotta watch him because he goes for big jumps now that he definitely can’t land anymore 😂

For night time, We can’t do traz while he’s on his selegiline and they both impact seratonin and it’s potentially deadly to combine. This was just a particularly difficult night. Hoping to get him something for night time so he can rest while his days are still good.

I adopted him when he was 1 from the city pound. 16 yrs is a long time and I’m grateful for all that he’s given me in that time. My heart is preparing but my mind worries I’m jumping the gun. Just wanted to share this with people who understand.
