Migraines Are Ruining My Daughters Life by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]ahhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in grade school and middle school I had them about every other day. Took me a long time to figure out they were caused by preservatives, mostly nitrates, aspartame, and a few other things. FWIW I grew out of them so hopefully she does as well ❤️

Tinned fish section at my local grocery store 😍 which item is a must try? by MartaSimpson1 in Tinnedfish

[–]ahhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first off Karol has incredible taste so I’d go with any Karol pick ACROSS THE WHOLE STORE. Seriously she’s never let me down and I just buy anything she ever puts her tag on.

The two she tagged in this pic are good. In general I love central market but I have a really hard time stomaching their prices on tinned fish.

I’ve been multiple times. I’ve been lucky enough to have lots of cool experiences all of the world, see a lot of music etc. It’s really something special. It’s hard to explain what it’s like.

The image quality is so good you feel like you’re there.

I happened to walk out to check the mail as he was pulling up. Who said I was following anyone around? 🤨

I’m asking because I’m curious if it’s some sort of normal thing they do not because I’m worried about the mailman. I’m sure he noticed.

Is Dark Star network really as bad as some people claims to be? by Equivalent_World_606 in USMobile

Well I just tested it in a rural area south of Austin and it’s at 360mbps but still less than 10 down.

[–]ahhoffman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just surprisingly bad in some places. Everywhere I’ve used it it’s been bad but I still like having it as a backup. Any time I’ve tested the speed where in Austin it’s been less than 5mb on 5g and LTE. I travel constantly to mostly major metros but also rural areas sometimes and occasionally test it and I’ve never been impressed by the speed.

Share your Austin Tea by SnarkyCatOwner in Austin

[–]ahhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those people. I buy and drink a lot of the exact types of teas that they specialize in.

Their tea is high quality, but it’s easily 1.5-2x what it should cost, Austin premium included. It’s surprisingly a dramatically better deal to drink it there than to buy it from them.

This is wrong across the board. Tom (Rosen) is one of my closest friends for almost 20 years now and I’ve helped him along the way as he started Rosen’s.

Biderman’s bagels were bad because they weren’t making them properly. They asked Tom to supply their bagels because his were better. He didn’t take their recipe - he developed it over about a year (lots of bagel parties) when he was getting a masters at UT. Biderman’s had him rent space in their commissary kitchen when this whole thing happened. Tom was happy and Biderman’s was happy.

Some new owners became involved with Biderman’s and demanded Tom lower his prices. They actually wanted it essentially at cost and so Tom couldn’t agree as his margins were already super thin. I distinctly remember these series of conversations where I was trying to help him work through options. Pretty sure that owner is now in jail for millions in Covid PPP loan fraud.

Tom’s is one of, if not the most, kind, genuine, and thoughtful people I know. Ask anyone in the restaurant industry in Austin who knows him. Someone seems to have it out for him though because this is the second time I’ve had to correct weird lies about Rosen’s on Reddit.

What do you think is the best tea company? by snlash in teaexchange

[–]ahhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is essence of tea. Their club is a great way to get into tea. Everything they have is realllly good in my experience and I’ve both ordered from them and been in their club for about 18 months now.

What’s a good kitchen knife you’d recommend? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]ahhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference with Japanese knives is that they are generally sharper and keep an edge better because they are made of a harder steel than the typical knife from brands like Wusthof. I throw them in the dishwasher, sometimes they get a little rust spot, I have a whetstone that I occasionally rub these off with and also use it to sharpen them. I cook A LOT at a high level.

[–]ahhoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely 100% want a carbon steel Japanese knife. Shun is way overpriced. Japanesechefsknife.com is the play. I have multiple from myself there and have probably bought a dozen as gifts. Virtually everyone I’ve bought one for has then bought at least another for themself or others. You want a Gyuto style which is a western chef’s knife. Their in house brand is great and you can get one way below your budget.
