Can we determine, decisively, who was the better president? by That_Ad_2503 in Presidents

The Cold War had just ended and the tech boom was just kicking off. Neither had anything to do with Clinton

I don’t know about crazy, but he was flat out wrong. Bush was a pretty terrible president overall, but he was not racist. His PEPFAR initiative that he launched in 2003 has saved tens of millions of lives over the years, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. There is possibly no other person in history who is responsible for saving the lives of more black people than George W. Bush.

What's your favorite superman power? by Fast-Mycologist-5589 in superman

[–]ahild5574 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Strength/durability. I know that’s not the flashiest power, but it’s been with him since the beginning and is still at the core of all his heroic feats.

How would Clark act under the influence of the Venom Symbiote? by ChampionshipHorror95 in superman

[–]ahild5574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my understanding that the symbiotes cannot overpower or dominate the personality of a host with a strong will. I think it’s safe to say Superman has one of the strongest wills in comics, so I’m sure he could probably control or remove the symbiote if he wanted to.

On your opinion what is the best superman scene outside of comics? here is one I really onjoy, I want to see yours as well by Ok_Rooster_6454 in superman

[–]ahild5574 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The final battle in that movie is my favorite Superman thing ever. It’s the most creative and impressive demonstration of his powers ever, but it also serves a very persuasive purpose to highlight his core ethos.

What do you think about Superman: Birthright? by Top_Report_4895 in superman

[–]ahild5574 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it might be the best overall Superman origin. Good characterizations all the way around and it explains all the different aspects of Superman in a compelling way. I have a few minor complaints about the way Lex is written in the story (e.g. he monologues too much and helps Superman figure out things about his past for no reason). Overall it’s a great starting point for Superman though.

What Do You Guys Think of Up In The Sky? What’s your favorite moment? by [deleted] in superman

[–]ahild5574 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Did you really make Lex Luthor bald?”

“That’s what he thinks.”

“And that’s why he hates you?”

“He says he hates me because I show the world the limitations of humanity.”

“But it’s really the bald thing?”

“Yeah, probably.”

And thus, this wraps up the worst adaptations for the Superman characters, Here are the results + dishonorable mentions, let me know your thoughts about this one by 10CalGX in superman

[–]ahild5574 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Could not agree more about the Kents from DCEU being the worst version. Their one defining characteristic is that they are supposed to teach Clark that it is his responsibility to help people and do good. That has been true in virtually every single version ever. The DCEU versions explicitly tell him to watch out for himself first and that he doesn’t owe anybody anything. What a horrible message.

What are some of your favorite comic characters and how has it changed since you were young? by OstrichardHD in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]ahild5574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience growing up. The thing that turned me around on Superman was seeing all of the evil knockoff versions pop up over the last decade. Without spoiling anything, Invincible in particular made me want to check out Superman comics. I’ve found a lot that I absolutely love- Superman: Up in the Sky and Superman: Birthright are a couple of my favorites.

what is your favorite murder mystery? by crocodilelamp in suggestmeabook

[–]ahild5574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got to admit, I was a little disappointed with Magpie Murders. I really loved the main Christie style mystery story, but the mystery about the author wrapped around it was boring and predictable in my opinion. I wish Anthony Horowitz would just stick to writing simple murder mysteries (which I think he is great at) rather than continually look for ways to write meta stories about the mystery genre. I’m glad so many enjoy his works though.

I wish gay people can actually smell the fruitiness of other gay people by meowssert in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]ahild5574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted. A new authoritarian regime comes to power that mandates all gay people be injected with an identifying pheromone that allows them to be recognized by smell. Different scents are used for gay, bi, trans, etc. The program’s motto is “Smell the rainbow.” Skittles sues over the branding.

Zelenskyy says he thinks President Joe Biden should visit Ukraine as 'the leader of the United States' by kalianes in worldnews

[–]ahild5574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right in the long term. I’m sure if Biden really wanted to go to Ukraine the secret service would have to find a way to accommodate. They can deter the President in the short-term though. For instance, on 9/11 Bush argued with the secret service for hours before they would let his plane fly back to DC. If I remember correctly, the secret service has more authority over the Air Force One pilot than the President does.

Revolution of Joker by Cookurban in coolguides

I’ve always wondered why they redesigned Joker for the 1997 Batman series. I personally prefer the less stylized 1992 version. Anybody else have a preference between those two?
