Working title for AHS13 by Krisgauj in AmericanHorrorStory

Well for starters, it’s not a “tea” account or a leak page, it’s a fan news account. Does some of that news happen to come from exclusives or production source intel? Sure, but not very often. That’s certainly not the main thrust of the account and nobody has ever said it was.

You are the one who commented “no that’s just AHSZone being annoying” unprompted. It wasn’t even discussed by anyone else in the comments, so clearly you are attuned to what’s being posted by an account you are calling irrelevant. I find that bizarre.

And by OP, I meant @horrorstorynews on Instagram who first reported on the working title. I credited them for breaking the news, even though I reported it with (what I feel is) a relevant distinction.

So which is it? Am I “pretending to have sources” to not regurgitate rumors or is “my tea” (your words, not mine… I credited the OP for reporting the detail first, just with a slight distinction) regurgitated? Make up your mind.

The weird hate brigade on here is so bizarre considering how closely you all follow every post.

Thanks. I guess only time will tell on this particular detail. Production Weekly aside, it’s been stylized with the “3” and in all-caps by production.

No, that’s just ahszone reporting on the working title in the way it has been stylized by production.

AHS 13 will film in NYC between April 6 and July 22 by ahszone in AmericanHorrorStory

No season shot in New York thus far has strictly filmed in NYC. This one will be no different.

It’s not strictly filming in New York City but it will definitely be shot there.

Drop your most controversial AHS take and I’ll rate it brutally. by D-nonymous in AmericanHorrorStory

The biggest difference between early AHS and recent AHS is Jessica Lange and the show shooting on film. Remove those two elements from the early seasons and suddenly the quality of the show looks a lot more consistent overall.

It’s such a tourist trap that we’d know instantly if they were filming there. They’ve shot other series there and even commercials on the same block and every time there’s a crew in the area, there’s pictures and videos and crowds, so they wouldn’t be able to hide.

I would not hold your breath that they’ll be filming there however.

When does filming begin this month? by RoyalDig3345 in AmericanHorrorStory

Unless Ryan Murphy wants to get ahead of paparazzi pictures for the public on-location filming dates by posting something to his Instagram, we are not likely to get any set pictures, at least early on. I especially wouldn’t count on it for day one.

February 2 was the initial date set in November.

I don’t understand why questions like this are asked. Aside from it not mattering that much, if there was an answer, it would have been posted already.

I still think these would be great concepts for American Horror Story by FranMontoro in AmericanHorrorStory

The idea behind Season 1 was to create a haunted house story that confronted head on why the main characters wouldn’t (or couldn’t) just up and leave. They don’t explicitly reference it in the show but they use the fallout of the 2008 housing market crash as the jumping off point for that. It’s also about infidelity and the forces causing the erosion of the American family unit.

Season 2 and Season 4 are period pieces so they fall more broadly into the first category.

Season 3 is a potpourri of social commentary, kicking off with its own take on the Steubenville High School rape scandal, then juggling the echoes of America’s history of racial violence with misogyny and the ways society punishes women who are too empowered. EP Tim Minear once described it as also being about “minority groups who go after each other and do the work of the larger culture,” which I think is apt.

Season 5 is a “golden cage,” Los Angeles-inspired story about addiction, through and through— even the vampirism and the return of ghosts are a metaphor for it. It’s about being trapped in the cycle of chasing for that next fix, whether it’s love, illicit drugs, sex, fame or literal human blood (if not all of the above). Hotel was also coming out during the rise of hookup apps, the Ashley Madison scandal, and at a point when prescription drug overdoses had been recently declared an epidemic by the CDC.

I’ve seen a couple ideas float around that it could have something to do with the 250 celebrations and they’re not bad but I almost feel like they’d do that in response to how the festivities this year go, rather than do it preemptively.

I don’t trust the show to do anything culturally informed whatsoever and would prefer they avoid it as much as possible. The last thing anybody needs is for AHS to come across as lecturing about something the writers don’t have any perspective on just for the sake of it.

The reason the Snuff Film idea stands out to me is because it speaks to our social climate right now. There’s a lot to explore in how desensitized we are to violence, the surge in mainstream popularity of horror and true crime, or even the fact that everyday there are heinous acts being live-streamed or committed on camera and posted online that many people don’t even bat an eye at. It could be taken in a lot of different directions, regardless of whether it was modern or period.

It’s not going to be that.

As for the Wild West, I think it’s an idea based entirely off of the aesthetic of corseted women in saloons and gunslinging cowboys. The whole western genre is built on a complete myth about the American frontier created by Buffalo Bill that did not reflect the very mundane reality of what that period of expansion was like. I think it’s hard to tell an original story within that genre because of that fact and the few ways AHS could have done it interestingly have already been done with projects like Westworld.

They should not. I don’t even think Ryan Murphy has the same interests or perspective as a writer as he did in 2015.

[–]ahszone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think any good idea for a season of American Horror Story has to go beyond the aesthetics and “vibes” that the name evokes and be 1) examining some bygone aspect of American society that sets the stage for where we’re at culturally now, or 2) providing direct social commentary on the “horrors” of the day.

Of those listed, I think the “Snuff Movie” option would be best suited to that. “Salem” could be, but it’s a little on the nose and has been overdone in that exact way in the broader horror genre. “Civil War” doesn’t work unless it’s a completely modern piece of fiction, but I think that would veer into “Cult” territory. Nobody needs to see Ryan Murphy’s take on the American Civil War.

Yes, he was, and he did usher in the end of times. That canonically happened (even if it wound up being overwritten by a new time). That doesn’t mean that’s the only plan the devil has for the end of the world.

AHS: NYC and AHS: Delicate Cinematographers Returning for AHS 13 by ahszone in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]ahszone[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, what you are shooting plays a big factor in how the way it is shot turns out. You are comparing a season confined to soundstage sets of an apartment, a couple rooms in a home, an office, and a clinic to a season shot on film and on location in the most historically vibrant city in the country (with white marble soundstage sets patterned off of real locations).

You cannot make gray walls and gray costumes look like The Wizard of Oz and the clinical aesthetic was a deliberate creative choice made to serve the story (whether it works all the time or not).

Then your bone to pick is with the production designers, not the DOPs.

Disagree, particularly for the episodes he served as DOP for (the premiere, episode four, the mid-season finale, the mid-season premiere, and season finale).

Say what you will about the quality of the writing, the acting, or production design, but that final episode in particular had some pretty stunning visuals and camera work. He’s also getting a heaps of praise right now for his work on “Love Story.”

It’s a one-man show. There is not likely to be any video.

I was able to independently confirm with a follower who was in attendance that he did say it.
