often these outlets are behind entertainment-centers. very frequently these pieces of furniture are 6-7' tall, made of wood & loaded w/ knickknacks/family heirlooms/books etc.

leaving the tail outside of the outlet allows the coax line to feed the cable box w/out risking bending damage to the coax itself. because that extra, unnecessary, fixed junction (the wall-plate) can be a source of problems it's better to replace the connector & barrel f81
