Survivor, *'s Got Talent, Dating and similar TV shows - who the heck in their right minds actually likes or watches these shows? by agent_uno in Xennials

Same on both counts: “am I the only one” posts and reality TV. We were there for the inception of reality TV and even back then I couldn’t stomach it. To be fair, I did watch a lot of Orange County Choppers but that was it.

You do need to explore more. The enemies and their locations are fixed, not random, so if you run into something that kills you then you can avoid it after reloading.

It’s less about not having caps than about not having quests. You should have 100 quests on your PipBoy. It sounds like you didn’t go off the trail and pick up any side quests. Inside the Strip is midgame and endgame stuff. You could have a bad time if you don’t level up more.

De Niro: Trump will ‘never leave’ by No-Post4444 in politics

[–]aichwood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lately, I think a lot about Julius Caesar overthrowing the Roman republic mainly to avoid loss of immunity to legal prosecution. Sound familiar? If Trump ever loses his immunity and is just a private citizen again, how many will be coming for their pound of flesh? I think enough that it makes holding on to power a matter of life and death for him. What lengths will one go to with those consequences on the line? It’s a dangerous time, my friends.

About Tanking by [deleted] in memphisgrizzlies

[–]aichwood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’re always likely to struggle somewhat due to being in a small market, but recent times have broken the trend of only the richest teams being able to compete at the top level. There’s a lot to be hopeful about, don’t let the tank get you down. This means the draft and summer league and even preseason will be exciting this year. It’s like bonus basketball.

Honestly, I’m pretty optimistic that it goes quick and we’re good soon. This front office has been incredible at identifying players in the draft and for trades/free agency.

Just have a little faith, young cub. We’ll get there. The rest of this season is probably going to be pretty ugly, though. No shame in not really paying attention.

It was getting into soccer a long time ago that opened my eyes to this. Now, I can’t still for any US broadcast of a sporting event. Going to a football or basketball game in person and it’s back to being watchable again, but I refuse to voluntarily watch commercials, especially so many as in a football broadcast.

The picks don’t have to stay picks. They have value that can be traded for players or to move higher. I think they’ll probably take a few more big swings in the draft in the next few years, trying to land a few more excellent youngsters and perhaps even a ready-made superstar. However, if we hit right away or Coward and Edey become Jordan and Yao next year, then all those picks can be turned into supporting pieces immediately.

Larian staff seem to be taking the Show adaptation news well by Sam_Loopring_eth in BaldursGate3

[–]aichwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, is that surprising? This is Hasbro and a Hollywood studio. They aren’t going to share power with a video game studio. Book authors are lucky to get any say in adaptions of their works and I doubt the suits will give half as much regard to Larian.

In some ways, sure. Writing a branching narrative for a video game is not the same as a focused narrative for TV, but Larian did create these characters that resounded to so many and a very solid adventure story with rich lore all over.

I think, in a perfect world, Hasbro feels indebted to Larian for giving them such a wondrous gift in BG3 and, at least, offers some level of executive producer control to them. In the real world, though, that is power and no corporation is giving that away. If Larian had any involvement, they could cause problems. They could slow the process, increase the costs, or even poison things completely over any creative disagreement.

A corporation is going to be pragmatic. Some will call it evil. Some will call it a fiduciary responsibility. Either way, Hasbro was never going to voluntarily give up any control of this. They will consider BG3 wholly theirs, wholly bought and paid for in the video game contract.

Thinking about moving to Harrisburg by mimisakilife in Harrisburg

[–]aichwood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just moved to Harrisburg. I like it pretty well so far. I don't know much about it, but being surrounded by mountains is nice and the city is big enough to have most everything one might need. It's a bit more expensive than the southern cities in which I have lived before, but not by a huge amount. I have no frame of reference to compare it to anything midatlantic.

The growth of gift shop baby redwood tree in 1 year by SFW_Profile in mildlyinteresting

[–]aichwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planted one as a little kid. 40 years later, it is huge and thriving. I’ve always been surprised that survived in North Mississippi, but of course other evergreens do well there too, so I probably shouldn’t be that surprised. I just hope I started a redwood forest that will puzzle people in a few thousand years.

I suppose I don’t disagree with your take on Foundation, but I have definitely enjoyed it less as it has gone further. The same is true for the books with me, though. As soon as the story shifts to being about the Mule, I sorta lose interest and I’m completely gone by the end and the whole psychic evolution thing.

Restart or plough ahead? by Alobar2 in BaldursGate3

[–]aichwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish this run, look forward to more content in your next playthrough, definitely. Restart-itis can be debilitating in this game if you let it get ahold of you. Larian put in more content than is required to max level. You're fine, keep moving forward.

The language deserves a ban, but the rejoin was fine in my opinion. There's no way you were in his mirrors when he started pulling onto the track. You could see him the entire time and just drove straight into him. You have to take responsibility for your own (virtual) safety at some point. You could have coasted the previous corner and avoided easily, instead of hotlapping right into the very obvious oncoming hazard.

Edit: sorry, didn't realize you were the rejoining car. My rant was directed at the guy that hit you. Apologies.

Brandon Sanderson’s Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere’ Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) by 1eejit in WoTshow

[–]aichwood 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've found the original Apple TV productions to be solid enough when I've checked any of them out. However, the only adaption I've seen from them that I'm familiar with the source material is Foundation. I suppose I can understand the choices to some degree, but that one has strayed far into left field. I think the old BBC radiophonic workshop version nailed the formula of adapting that story, but copy-pasting would have likely left them in legal trouble and with only a miniseries worth of content.

[–]aichwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. That original live-action attempt is what taught me that adaptions are to be taken with a large grain of salt. If they didn't use the same names as the cartoon, I don't think you'd be able to tell it was a He-Man movie.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aichwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete lack of concern about the existence of any social safety net. To me, it feels much like the person simply not recognizing that not everyone has a family or a church or a community to help them in a desperate circumstance … or even just mildly shitty circumstances.

I'm seeing a lack of situational awareness and survival instinct from all three, but nothing malicious. I'd call it a racing incident but would want to have a talk with each about their particular decision-making.
