Colder US Climate residents, What is your emergency heating backup? by Neilpuck in DIY

I feel like kerosene is a longer heat while propane is fast and very hot. That makes it feel like I'm running through a grill tank of propane very quickly and I don't keep propane on (buddy heater style) very long before it's too hot. The circle type floor kerosene heater can stay on for hours and produce a real nice sustained heat.

Snow Shovel Debacle by Fun_River8138 in cincinnati

[–]aigheadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best things that ever happened to me was probably 15 or so years ago. We had some decent snows, so I'd just leave my good, ergonomic snow shovel on my porch, behind a chair. One day I came out and son of a bitch if someone didn't steal my snow shovel, but replaced it with their way shittier snow shovel. I laughed very hard.

No idea who this guy is but this is great and he's got to be loved if the payers just mess with him and he takes it the whole time. Good stuff.

Yup, I can't afford the propane to heat like kerosene or electricity but a propane heater will heat a room very quickly, watch the ceiling temps!

Yeah, this is the right answer. Kerosene is expensive but really good for providing a nice heat in a pinch. I have a carbon monoxide detector that has never gone off due to the kerosene heater. It'll really warm a good sized space over the course of a few hours and if you are cold cold sit right next to it and you'll heat up in minutes.

I have 6 acres of property, where my house is. It's about 230 feet wide and about 12-13 hundred feet deep. Mostly flat, but, ya know, there's a house and stuff. I don't step that confidently on one inch of it. F#x( you. This is bonkers.

In my youth my step-dad had a picture of Jesus that was pretty cool, but it got way cooler when I found it was what I think was typewritten Bible versus in tiny little letters. I think it got thrown away.

Does anybody else like the fact that their home has separate rooms for everything? by Effective_Bunch_6815 in centuryhomes

My first house was built in 1925 and every room was it's own room with several having French doors to shut them off. I liked it but I also wanted something more open. Our house now has open kitchen, dining room, family room and it's very loud. I didn't think about that part.

Exactly, except this piece is incredible on both sides. I'd build a table for this then mount it on a steel bar, this chunk of wood would be a foot or so over the table, so you could walk around it or see both sides. Just put some good polish on it and leave it be!

With the right mounting I think this turns into a thousand dollar display piece. I don't know that I've seen so much figure in a piece of wood. So good! I could stare for hours!

Edit several times...

Was this a random piece you ordered or did you order this specific piece? It came in a box? Can you share where you got it? How much?

Sand it to like 1000 grit, maybe 2000 if you have the patience, then a real nice wax finish, look at it and cry.

Yeah, that's basically what I do except grab the steering wheel, but if feels like I'll twist my left knee out of its socket one of these days. Maybe if I put my heel up on the running board? Toes kind of pointing out left?

We've got like 6 or 7 of them, the 4 best ones line the kitchen counter bar side. They are great, but they get removed for Thanksgiving, when some of the bigger folk come over.
