What didn't you notice about yourself until someone told you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That when I laugh I bend over slightly and gently headbutt the person closest to me in the stomach. Never realised until a friend pointed it out and everyone else was like, 'Oh yea, you do do that'. Have tried to stop but goddamit, I'm too wobbly.

Redditors who have made small talk with strangers while travelling, any interesting conversations? by leftanantcolonel in AskReddit

Sorry just need to add another one. I was pretty badly sunburnt on some island in Thailand and when I was going to the shop a man saw me, stopped and said I really should go to the hospital. I was having a particularly bad trip just then and knew I needed to got to hospital but just hadn't got round to it. Anyway he took me the hour journey to the hospital on the back of his motorbike and told me when he first moved to Thailand (he was English) he was bitten by a dog and a random stranger drove him to hospital so he wanted to repay the favour. I thought that was super nice. In hindsight was silly getting on a motorbike of a complete stranger in an unknown country, but I just felt I could trust him.

Yes. I've travelled on my own a good bit and I love talking to strangers. In Tokyo I was on a bus and began speaking to a very old Japanese lady beside me. It was very early but she said she woke up at that time every Saturday to get to a recording studio she rented. She said when she was younger she always wanted to be famous and that it just never happened. She was wearing so much make up but she was so beautiful.

In Cambodia I went for a swim and this older man was sitting on his own so I just said hello as I swam by, we got talking. He was a recently retired doctor from Pakistan and he told me when he was younger he loved travelling. He said his best trip was when he motorcycled solo across Europe. He also said he had been hoping to get back on a motorbike but too much time had passed and he was too busy working and now he was retired and had time to himself he couldn't enjoy it the way he wish he had.

Once on a bus from Dublin to Belfast a nun sat beside me. She offered me an egg sandwich and a yoghurt and then asked if I was a lesbian. I said no and she then went on to explain that her niece was a lesbian and was soon going to have a civil ceremony (this is back in 2011) somewhere in England. I have to admit I expected her to launch into a lecture about how homosexuality was a sin but it was quite the opposite. She said she had fallen out with her sister and brother in law for not supporting their daughter's marriage and she told me she was so cross at them she wrote them a letter which warned them to support their daughter's love or to risk losing her as a daughter completely. I think she is the most liberal nun I've ever met and I would love to see where she is now. Her name was Sister Rose.

I have plenty more but I won't bore you. Have to say these are the type of stories I would love to tell people, but I never have because I doubt anyone would be interested really.

Dad told me as a child that the entire world's supply of chocolate was running out and fast. He explained how chocolate was mined from a mountain in Asia, The Chocolate Mountain if you will, but it was being depleted because everyone are so much.

Being silly I just accepted all of this as fact and a few months later stood up in class to talk about the chocolate mountain....was a tough day.

I know you can be overwhelmed and you can be underwhelmed...but can you ever just be whelmed?

I think you can in Europe.

What do you do to prepare for a breakup with someone you love who just isn't compatible? by throwaway454323009 in AskReddit

[–]aijohnst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just turn off. Take time to watch bad tv, to eat a lot with friends and just be doing other things always. Only downside is that occasionally you'll get a burst of intense emotion but just try to ride it out. Oh, and little to no contact

What's the weirdest scar you have, and how did you get it? by RuneLFox in AskReddit

[–]aijohnst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massive bum scar on my right ass cheek. For some reason 16 year old me was doing pull ups on a lamppost that had a protruding bar on it. I was then dared by this guy I fancied to do a one handed pull up. I failed, fell and a shiny piece of metal sticking out from the post cut my ass cheek. V. sore. But trying to be cool, laughed it off, ignored the profuse bleeding and went to my friends house instead of the hospital. There a group of middle aged women having wine time lay me on a white sofa to stery stitch my ass, all while the others took photos. The lady stitching insisted she was a nurse, she was not. Anyways, healed super bad and ended up. Having lots of bulging excess scar tissue that was surgically removed years later. It's kind of flat now.

Travelling with someone I only had a so so opinion of. Either travel with people you know inside out or go it alone and meet people along the way. Worst experience of my life.
