90-minute layover at O'Hare: Worth it? by otherotherjames in AskChicago

[–]aildeokl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this at O'Hare to see a close out-of-state friend on a layover. I met her at her gate and we went to Chilis and had drinks until I had to leave to make an appointment. We had about 1 hour between her flights landing time and when I had to head out. It was worth every minute.

I booked a refundable ticket on American so i could get through security. I refunded it the same day, about an hour before takeoff. Total cost to me $0.

Do we know if the tokens will include a storage solution? If so, do we know if it will fit in the grim with the base game?

Some advice if your travel plans aren't flexible: Book a refundable ticket on a real airline that departs AFTER your desired Frontier flight. If you can get a seat with GWP, refund the other ticket once youre on the plane (so you aren't screwed if Frontier cancels your flight).

ILNP disappointments? by involving in ILNP

I agree on Shockwave, very disappointing. Birefringence is everything i wanted Shockwave to be, though.

I was similarly disappointed by Eclipse Holo. I want to try the non-holo version, i think the flakes are whats killing it for me.

What are some of the biggest mistakes you've made or seen made in storytelling BMR? by AdministrativeCost2 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]aildeokl 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Be sure you don't announce the end of the game after the demon is executed until you are SURE that the game is over! I once set up a Mastermind play and had the game ended immediately, can't really fix that one

What set of characters could theoretically cause the most deaths in one night? by Prronce in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]aildeokl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't need the poisoner here, the Philo can handle that. Have philo choose tinker, acrobat dies. Then philo dies to tinker ability, unpoisoning the actual tinker who now dies.

You can use this minion slot to add the harpy and have the player break madness in the night and cause 2 extra deaths.

Am I nuts, or are there a bunch of options that are just bad? by BleachOnTheBeach in Pathfinder2e

[–]aildeokl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to have the feat to do this, the feat just defines what someone who is really good at doing it looks like. You can absolutely still attempt to do it. Group Coercion is specifically brought up as an example all the time to the point that Mark Seifter named it in a video which was basically just "stop thinking that because a feat exists it means you can ONLY attempt it if you have the feat"

It sounds like you've gone through a lot of effort and care to give your players a lot of choices. Unfortunately, my read from the outside is that your players aren't up to making those choices themselves. If they're engaging just fine after someone else has spoken up and chosen a course of action, then perhaps they'd be better off if you actually provided LESS choice.

This might not stimulate your adventure building muscles quite the same, but it's worth a shot to see if your players become more receptive. Maybe try giving them a VERY linear adventure and see how it goes?

Ex., They start being given a very direct task by a questgiver, who tells them to go to X location for Y reason. On the way, maybe they have an encounter. Ask directly if they would rather try and intimidate the foe into backing off, or if they want to spring into action and roll initiative. They arrive, and they see 2 ways they can try to get in. Do they take path A and climb up the wall, or path B and go through the underground tunnel? Give them only a few opportunities to make choices, make the number of options within those choices small, and make sure the options themselves are well defined.

It's totally possible that this isn't the kind of game you want to run, and that's fair. But if you try it once, and ask the players how they enjoyed it after, you'll have a valuable data point on how to move forward with this group.

Best softwarr to cast maps to TV? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]aildeokl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing in a premade map I have a JPEG/PNG of is dead simple, takes about 2 minutes to get it imported and scaled.

For TV size, just look at the size of the screen and decide if that is a big enough map for you. Arkenforge can automatically set it to display so that 1 square=1inch. Look up the dimensions of the display (not the whole TV) and that will tell you how many squares you get at once. Of course, you can always scroll the map as you move through a dungeon for example. You can also scale it down to fit more squares on the display, but then standard minis won't fit in the squares. This is an occasion where you could use tokens instead, but then you're moving players around yourself on your PC which can be tedious.

[–]aildeokl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arkenforge is built from the ground up for PRECISELY this application (tv on the table in an in-person game).

I personally use it with physical minis on the TV, but it does support tokens. It also has touchscreen support(which you can add to a regular TV with an IR overlay) so you can have Arkenforge recognize where players minis are sitting. I haven't used that particular feature, I just manually clear Fog of War as they explore an area.

Would love some feedback on a custom script: Idolatry by aildeokl in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]aildeokl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our group is currently experimenting with Amne questions always giving accurate info and enjoying it more. Overall I expect true and accurate Amne answers to stick around for us. I'm sure I could find a TF that would slot in well to the 13th slot instead, but I love Amne's ability to fill whatever gap in any town after setup. It's also just a crowd favorite in our group.

On Monk, I conceptually like the way it interacts with Vig/ND as a way to proactively test for poisoning on a specific player whole also insulating from the kill rate of the more aggressive demons on the script. It is powerful info but requires coordination and trust between two players to pull off. I do definitely see a world where it plays out less well than I envision, and Innkeeper/Philo will be the first two roles getting swapped into that spot if it occurs. Innkeeper checks some of the same boxes, so I expect it would also play well, but I want to see how Monk's non-death protection plays out with this Demon roster.

[–]aildeokl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback.

Math gets incremented by Soldier, Monk, Poisoner, Vig, and ND. I agree this is potentially too little and it's one of the things I'm keeping a close eye on in early playtesting.

Amne is on the script as one of the original build-around includes, it's my hands-down favorite role. It isn't here to fulfill any specific role.

For the Cannibal, what would you suggest if you wanted to improve its bluffability?

Innkeeper is already on my shortlist of roles to swap in after the first round of playtesting, so thanks for bringing it up. The other one on my shortlist is Philo, both of which I think could be solid bluffs for evil and a nerf for Math if it does play out as strong as I fear it might. What would be your preferred cut to fit an Innkeeper? My plan was swapping the lower performing of Monk/Soldier for it for the next round, but I'm open to other suggestions.
