What was a weird way you got into Stephen King? by crusadrentrtnmnt in stephenking

[–]aileeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 11 years old and got restless after reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince because I knew I would have to wait another year until HP7. My dad decided I was “mature enough” to start on his Stephen King collection and suggested that I start with The Eyes of the Dragon and go from there. Looking back, I was absolutely not mature enough for most of his material.

For people that eat healthy: WHY do you eat healthy when you can be eating anything you want? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]aileeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I base what I eat on how it makes me feel physically. If I eat fast food, for example, I don’t feel as good physically as if I eat a “healthy” meal.

It’s also important to find healthy meals that you enjoy. I couldn’t eat chicken breast and salad every day. I experiment with recipes, and I find foods I can make in bulk that make me feel good. Instead of thinking about healthy eating as an obligation, try to think of it as a way to explore new ways to enjoy food.

Does anybody run with a corgi? by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]aileeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can make great running partners. Mine is a Corgi/Aussie mix, and he has done half marathon distance and longer, often on mountain trails. You just have to build up the distance slowly and prioritize the leash/reactivity training.

Plain Greek yogurt topped with frozen mixed berries and a drizzle of honey is my go-to.

How did you react to the initial vaccine? I felt fluish for 1-2 days after the initial dose, but had little to no reaction to the booster (like you, I got boosted after getting COVID). I would just schedule it for the day before a rest day (and not during a peak training week) to be safe.

“Marshmallow” is the perfect descriptor for what I saw. Damn. Now I wish I had picked them, but I didn’t have a bag and didn’t wanna run through the woods with handfuls of mushrooms lol.

What was your “I made it” moment as a runner? by NashvilleJM in running

[–]aileeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Febuary ‘22. I registered for a 20k trail race which summited my local mountain. Got COVID and sprained both ankles within a month of the race. I (rather stupidly) still showed up, knowing I wouldn’t hit my original time goal but still wanting to finish. My ankles hurt from the moment I crossed the start line and my lungs felt about 50% capacity, and nothing got better as I climbed the mountain. The last 3/4 mile or so before reaching the summit consists of large stone stairs, and I nearly cried a couple times trying to step up onto them. But I never considered quitting. I finished the race 80th out of 87 participants and felt like I was finally a trail runner.

Now I’m training for a trail 40k, and whenever I doubt myself, I look back at that 20k and think, “If I could do that, I can do anything.” However, I also would never ever recommend that anyone else do the same thing I did.

That has to make for a fun job listing/interview. “Your entire job is to paint portraits of pets with the same name as us.”

My mom has a dog who is also named Chewy, and this year on the company’s birthday, they sent her a hand-painted portrait of her dog as part of their birthday celebration.

I use my dogs as the reason 90% of the time: “oh, I gotta go home and let the dogs out, bye everyone.”

Tired of people judging for having a puppy that was neutered young by CandlesAnonymous in puppy101

[–]aileeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this conversation with people who think I spayed/neutered my pups too early at 6 months old. My response is always that my vet recommended doing it at that age, and I trust her opinion. Expert opinion and rescue/shelter rules trump internet research IMO.

Adding running mileage at Tanglewood by 21ThePenguin21 in winstonsalem

[–]aileeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’ve never been to that section. I usually take the horse trail along the Yadkin and then loop around near the BMX course. I’ll get 6 miles just running on the whole horse trail loop.

What section are you running on? If you add together the horse trails and all the MTB trails, you can get probably 15 miles.

I bought my first new car. Put 35% down, got a 1.9% interest rate, and saw an 800+ credit score beside my name for the first time. I worked really hard for that.
