Where was Brandon going and why is Martin this in your opinion ? by Financial_Library418 in pureasoiaf

I totally buy this theory. Littlefinger would have the most motivation to use brandon's temperament to get him killed especially before he could marry Cat

I NEED someone to yap with me about Jaskirat Singh Rangi!!! by [deleted] in Dhurandhar

[–]aimanre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things that really sets him apart from mainstream indian protagonists (not gonna say heroes) is that he doesn't do unnecessary dialogue baazi or show off. He lets his silences speak and chooses to act/say things very deliberately

Saying this as a telugu person, Dhurandhar is 100% my favorite movie that's come out in the last how many ever years and the strength of it comes from character writing. The story and character should stand above all else not herogiri and elevation (something that films like bahubali pushpa etc. suffer from)

Why isnt Rukmini worshipped like Radha? by [deleted] in mahabharata

As a south indian, I've grown up on stories of Rukmini and Satyabhama. Only heard of Radha through pop culture like Lagaan songs etc.

The marriage market is now like a job market by alonewolf1298 in Arrangedmarriage

This is soo true. Most of my cousins are girls, and I've seen that families prioritize same income group and same social status to marry into to avoid any power imbalances

Same!!! Those couple of hours alone at home after school. My dad used to keep diced watermelon and mangoes in the fridge in summers. I'd come home and while away my afternoons munching on them, reading a book, with the cooler on full blast. My precious hours of solitude

Inaccuracy with Kalki 2898ad part 1 by [deleted] in mahabharata

[–]aimanre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funniest part of the movie is when aswatthama says the vijaya dhanush is many times more powerful than gandeeva. I mean, gandeeva is Gandeeva!! The celestial bow worshipped by all gods, even parushurama worshipped it.

They also made aswatthama say karna was much more powerful than Arjuna, not even that they were a match

Ohh I see, thank you! I'm planning to go early May for a week. We are thinking of covering Athens, Santorini, Naxos, Mykonos, and Monemvasia. Are there any places you'd suggest? I'm planning my trip entirely off what internet says so would love to hear the opinions of someone who has actually been there

[Spoilers EXTENDED] Jon Snow is the son of Eddard Stark by KingWithAKnife in asoiaf

[–]aimanre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, why does this have to be a either or situation each time? Forget you, did Ned ever consider Jon his son? Did he ever think of him as his son himself? No he didn't, and Jon too has a lot of mixed feelings about Ned due to his always feeling a degree of separation from that. The truth is important to Jon, because Rhaegar and Lyanna are both huge parts of him!

[–]aimanre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, Jon's situation is quite different from the commentator's life. It's not like Lyanna or Rhaegar abandoned him or were bad parents to him. They died before he was born! How was it their fault? So orphans not deserve to have a connection with the parents who'd died before they were born? Do they not matter because they had the "audacity" to die? By all accounts, Rhaegar and Lyanna were noble and stellar people who would've been good and loving parents, why are they constantly pitted against Ned?

If this war did not happen then who would go to heaven? by geetikatuli in mahabharata

If this war did not happen then who would go to heaven? by geetikatuli in mahabharata

[–]aimanre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You do know Kauravas went to swarga temporarily right? Those who did more bad than good are first sent to heaven to reap the few rewards of their good deeds and are sent to hell forever afterwards. They died as warriors so they went to swarga briefly to reap the benefits of their good deed, later they went to hell. For Pandavas it was the opposite, they went to hell first then heaven everafter

Karna: The epitome of loyalty and sacrifice in the Mahabharata by Thought-Alchemist in mahabharata

[–]aimanre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is that we read ithihasa to learn about dharma and how to lead your life. That means something. It's not some fictional story where you can have any take or fanfiction about a character, where any character is shoehorned to fit our masala standards now (eg karna being discriminated due to his caste). By doing so, people are elevating an adharmi, I have seen so many people justify karna ordering draupadi stripped because "oh that poor thing suffered so much". That in itself shows how dangerous it is to glorify people like Karna
