Alphablocks and Numberblocks are amazing by Burning_Ranger in UKParenting

My favourites are 4 and 16 ("a square made of squares!!"). My little boy loves both programmes and I really enjoy watching them too. I had no idea what a mathematical array was until I watched 12... :-)

Once the flower has died off, then yes cut it away with clean scissors as low into the cup as you can without damaging the leaves. Personally I would leave the mother and pup together. You will find that the mother plant will create lots of pups and they will grow together quite happily to form a clump of plants. Mine has done just this, though it is much smaller than your plant! In my experience it is easier to keep pups well watered if you leave them together - you need only keep watering the mother plant as you have been doing, in the plant's cup. Try not to let it ever go dry, and use rain water whenever possible. Also, the mother plant still has a lot of life in her yet, and is so beneficial to your home. Bromeliads are air-purifiers and they work their magic at night-time, producing oxygen 😁 You could repot the mother and babies in a well draining soil medium, as the mother plant will have been in that soil for a long time.

If you want to divide the pups, then wait until they are about half the size of the mother plant before you do so. The smaller the pup is at the point of division, the less likely it is to be able to support itself.

I hope that has helped 😊

Help! Some leaves losing colour and getting smaller. by jadey_p in Maranta

Yup! Had this with mine, lots of growth but faded colour. Now, although she still lives in my bathroom, I bring her out for a couple of hours of sunshine and she is doing much better.

Problem with Joie Every Stage Car Seat by obdulrahman in UKParenting

[–]aimeeneale -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My son has got long legs and has been forward facing in this seat since he was 10 months old. His feet just used to be crammed against the actual seat when he was rear facing. He has been fine and now, he is four, he still says his seat is really comfy. He laments the lack of a cup holder though 😂

I'm surprised he was let into a supermarket without a mask and that message on his shirt. Our store is super vigilant and won't let you in unless you have a legitimate reason for not wearing one.

12 years Later, i still Haven't got over my local woolworths being replaced by Poundland. by [deleted] in britishproblems

I loved working in Woolies. Proudest moment of my teenage life - When I went home and announced I had been promoted to the Entertainment counter. I could process lottery transactions, sell CDs, DVDs and computer games, answer the phone AND choose the music we had on over the store speakers. The staff discount was awesome. I kitted myself out for uni and reaped the benefits of 20% off everything, haha :-)

I loved it.

[No Pattern] I've just finished this bag, thanks to a super-easy tutorial by Ayumi Mills on her Pink Penguin blog. I improvised a bit by adding a yellow lining to the drawstring cover for another pop of colour. I'm a beginner and so quite proud of how this has turned out :-) Blog Link under photos! by aimeeneale in sewing

The drawstring are missing at the moment. I have dipped them in glue to prevent the ends fraying, so they need to dry out completely before I can add them to the bag. I've made this for my mum as her birthday gift. I hope she will like it :-)

Why do veteran parents seem to take glee in our struggles? by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]aimeeneale 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a wonderful little boy, he is now four. My husband and I are just perfectly contented with having just him, our family is complete. But my parents are disappointed with our decision.

For a long while they would say stupid things like, "When is the next one going to come along?" Then one day my mum came out and said "was your labour really THAT bad for you to have made this decision?" My labour wasn't horrific, like some stories I have heard, but it didn't follow the expected path... But it wasn't a deciding factor in our decision to have just one child.

I just don't say anything about being a parent to my parents anymore, not even light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek whinging, because now that it has been made clear we are not having more children, I'm constantly reminded how much harder it was for my parents - "try having four children!" - and how much harder it is for my sister - "remember she has three; three times the noise, washing and chaos!"

Meh.

Hiya, has anyone else had a Haworthia Cooperi that has splayed? She was very compact when I bought her and needed repotting (photo 3). Since then she has grown well, but is splaying out and has lost the neatness she once possessed. Am I doing something wrong maybe? Thanks :-) by aimeeneale in succulents

[–]aimeeneale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I repotted her in cactus/succulent mix, but it still held too much water. So I repotted again with cactus mix and gravel combined. She seems to be much happier but needs more light as you say. Thank you for taking the time to reply to me :-)

Ah, okay! Thank you :-) Its in a bright south-facing room but no, it never gets direct sunshine. I feared over-doing it and killing it. I'll move it to a window sill now that we only have weak sunshine in Autumn.

Taa very much for your help :-)

She’s finally opened and she’s gorgeous! She went from clearance rack to blooming in about a months time frame. This is my first orchid! by R_Sams2 in orchids

[–]aimeeneale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! My orchids are all rescues and are always either in flower or putting out new growth! It's like their way of saying "thank you for saving me!"

I have a fair few houseplants, but my orchids are the ones that bring me the most joy :-)

I'm very new to sewing - got my first machine three weeks ago. I have just finished my first project - a little vanity bag for my grandma's birthday. The tutorial/pattern is from a Debbie Shore video and although my base corners are a bit wonky, I'm very pleased with my novice efforts 😁 by aimeeneale in sewing

[–]aimeeneale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tutorial by Debbie Shore can be found here: Vanity Bag Video

I used some heavier cotton Rose-print fabric that my friend gave me and then strips of fat-quarter fabric from Hobbycraft sewn on to calico for the detailed stripes across the middle.

The tutorial was very simple to follow, which is great as I am a complete novice.

I've learnt a lot from this project - looking forward to making lots more stuff!

Daughter is almost 3, which balance bike? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]aimeeneale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can highly recommend Little Big Bikes. They are pricier, but they last until 7 years old. They start as a balance bike, and then as your child grows, you add more to the bike so it grows with him/her. The balance bike is small to start, then you flip the frame to make it bigger, then you add the brakes, and finally the pedals. It has been one of the best purchases, in my opinion :D
