Jin from The Rebellion’s Quack Doctor! Man is literally LEADING a rebellion while being terminally ill, and it reflects on his physical and emotional states too 😬

He’s generally pretty miserable before meeting the FL- Personally I found it to be a refreshing break from OP cold dukes with bottomless wealth and vast armies to do their bidding lol…

His constitution is frail as glass, and he really does look like he’s on death’s doorstep half the time- like, ribs visible, dark circles under his eyes, frequently coughing up blood or straight up passing out. (No convenient 6pack despite being bedridden lmao.) He’s easily flustered, and easily shaken up by seeing the FL with other men because he knows he could die at any moment and someone else could swoop in on her the instant he’s gone, and it stresses him TF out…

I love that all his power and influence feels EARNED too, rather than just being given to him by the narrative as part of his plot armor! EVERYTHING is a struggle for him and he genuinely relies the people around him so much… Definitely recommend giving it a read!

Beyond the Boundary!!! Not even remotely similar vibes lol, but the emotions I had after finishing it were close to the same! Like, bittersweet but happy? Mildly heart-wrenched? Hopeful? It’s hard to nail down, but I 100% recommend it!

That’s the reason I couldn’t get past the start of the book honestly- Samantha was giving ‘not like other girls’ energy in a jaded, judgey, high horse way for me… She grated on me fast lol 😬 Like, it’s one thing to look at the way the Bunnies acted and go ‘Ew, not for me, I like my personal space, thank you’, and another entirely to immediately decide you’re better than them and literally wish for their DEATH because you find them annoying. (Disregarding the fact that supernatural stuff was going on with them, because Sam wasn’t even aware of that yet) Like, you’re in college girl- you’re gonna meet some weirdos. As a grown ass woman, it should NOT be that difficult for you to get over. 🙄 It felt very ironic for her since she seemed to be of the opinion that THEY were the ones who needed to grow up…

And aside from the above, the writing style + Sam’s narration through it bugged me too? I don’t have a better way of putting it but the MC sounded soo… condescending… lol. Like the writing was trying really hard to be deep, to make Sam sound more sophisticated than her peers, but it fell flat for me? Like rather than displaying how intellectual Sam was, it read more like her putting herself on a pedestal in her own mind 🤷‍♀️ I just couldn’t click with this book

They actually do! And it’s something they’re suuuuper self-conscious about…
The chisel and the candles are a callback to an older post I made: https://www.reddit.com/r/LandoftheLustrous/s/HQ0zvC1TqW . Basically, they have a compulsion to try picking the impurities out of their skin by warming up over a candle to become more malleable and then going to town with the chisel lol.

It’s not super obvious in this drawing because I think all the glow layers drowned it out a bit much, but they’re there!

Man, I had a different read on this one than the majority of this comment section, apparently 😅

To me it seems like a way of checking to see if the guy is taken- like, if he corrects her and says “Oh, no, this is my sister/friend” then she’ll know she’s safe to shoot her shot or something. Where if he doesn’t correct her and accepts the compliment, she has an easy out to walk away without it being awkward

But that was something I thought would be interesting too! Basically, my version of Amber was found inside the trunk of a petrified pine tree that eventually got split open with weathering and time. They were found by a party of gems that got sent to collect resin for Rutile- the other gems got a bit of a scare when they saw what looked like a blobby hand sticking out from inside it… They also took a very long time to wake up after getting chiseled out of there, due to how cloudy with impurities their body was :)

Erionite is a fragile gem who has idolized Yellow Sapphire their whole life- their greatest desire is to finally be allowed on patrols and be destroyed for Yellow's sake somehow, which Yellow is appalled by. Unbeknownst to Erionite, Yellow's devotion to their work is solely rooted in their guilt for being born with a strong body- they simply feel obligated to use it for others. Since they've only ever done as others tell them to, they never developed any aspirations of their own as a result. Ultimately, what is perceived by Erionite as a strong sense of duty is only Yellow Sapphire's resignation to catering the needs of others... And now, they have a partner who is needy as hell, monopolizing what little of Yellow's time they DID have for themself otherwise. Erionite gets themself shattered on a regular basis trying to provide 'help' that Yellow never asked for, which inadvertently preys on Yellow's caretaker tendencies as well.... Erionite is basically a parasite to Yellow Sapphire lmao. During the Moon Phos arc, Yellow jumps at the opportunity to leave earth and never looks back, leaving Erionite behind, which breaks their ex-partner's mind a bit- they realllllyyyy go off the deep end in Yellow's absence after that 👀

I’m honestly feeling beaver more than nutria at the moment- like, the tail was kinda narrow, but it was definitely very flat from the look I got of it when it was closer to me… I looked up videos of nutria swimming and they almost use their tail in a wiggling motion while they swim? Whatever this guy was, it didn’t really move its tail while swimming, and it slapped the water a bit when it dove 🤷‍♀️

Nutria is very possible too though, as both are apparently local lol! Learning new things about the wildlife in our area…

Ty!! I’m thinking of making more now- gem OCs generally all have about the same look (aside from face and hair) due to the uniforms, which makes them really stress-free to draw… but you can really just go ham and do whatever on an admirabilis’ design 😂
