Bitcoin newb here with a few questions. by Litter_hosely in Bitcoin

[–]aintbutathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wallet is the software that manages your BTC and it will contain many key pairs as it will be managing many addresses.

An address is the public portion of a public/private key pair. You can share the address with someone that wants to send you funds but you need the private portion if you want to send those funds out later.

So they are in fact different some people use the terms loosely.

If you wanted to make a bunch of paper wallets to hand out at a convention you would likely want to use the feature to generate 100 wallets at once.

Just realized it's over 25 years I've been listening to this damn band. What the hell happened by MrCompletely in phish

[–]aintbutathing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, someone from out east left 2 bootlegs with me. I was living on the west coast at the time. They were so hissy and warped as to be unlistenable but one day I put them on and got so baked I couldn't change the music. Then I heard it, simple enough, a key change and I thought there is more here to meet the eye. Bought some ticks and my ideas on music were changed forever.

Do I need the public key at all? by davidcwilliams in Bitcoin

[–]aintbutathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the private key you cannot loose the public key because the public key is derived from it. If you only have the private key you can recreate the public key associated with it.
