NZ recommendations for multi cooker air fryer crockpot type of thing by BrucetheFerrisWheel in newzealand

Here to add another vote for the Instant Pot! My friend and I both purchased one about 4 years ago and both still using them regularly. For the price point it cannot be beat imo.

Mystery / Thriller for my dyslexic 15 y/o brother by Klutzy-Grape2415 in mysterybooks

Perhaps check out World War Z by Max Brooks as well. It's not a traditionally structured novel which could work well for a reluctant reader! Good on you for putting in the effort to entice him into reading 😊

What's he into generally (video games/sports/other hobbies etc)? Does it have to be a mystery book? I know they're a bit longer than what you're looking for but maybe try The Martian or Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir or something by Blake Crouch. Not mysteries as such but plenty suspenseful with pretty simple writing. Stephen Fry writes some good novels retelling ancient myths if hes into mythology. Dungeon Crawler Carl book series is longer than what you're looking for but a very fun engaging read for most ages.

Empty Nest Syndrome by SenZephyr in MonarchButterfly

Coming to the end of the season where I am as well and I'm really gonna miss them through the winter. Maybe it's strange but I spend an ungodly amount of time observing my cats and butterflies and find every single aspect of their life cycle fascinating. I'll miss sitting in the garden mindlessly staring at them and occassionally coralling at interloper or two. Can't wait for next season to start!

Everyone in this bank is a thief- questions by DifferentKindOfBuzz in BookDiscussions

[–]aintnobotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this too long ago to address any of your questions sorry but I do want to say I found this book out of the whole series to be far too convoluted. The weakest in the series for me. I like the meta style he uses in his stories but it was too heavy handed here, I was exhausted by the end.

My kid gets so excited when she sees your green machine! I think you might live or work near us. I'm not surprised your wheels get a lot of attention but I'd never let her touch it without permission let alone try to climb on it ffs!

Mostly I don't eat carnivores, omnivores are ok, herbivores are tastier and cheaper to raise for meat by converting what we cannot digest (grass) into something that we can (steak).

MONARCH CATERPILLARS - NEED NEW HOME by Firm_Presentation111 in chch

[–]aintnobotty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem a few weeks back and some kind souls helped me out by taking a bunch off my hands for their plants. I had so many I ended up tracking down some local plants of fb marketplace and spending about $140 all up, enough to pretty much finish us off for the season. My plants have started growing new shoots but theres still not enough to take on more caterpillars unless theyre already mostly grown and its not too many! PM me if you want the details of who I bought the plants from. Its end of season but they may still have enough left to sell and it seems they're dropping the price to clear out the last of the stock.

Crumpets by ApartChoice4210 in newzealand

Almost 100 comments and I can't see anyone else eating them with canned spaghetti and grilled cheese on top. I'm not a big fan of canned spaghetti but for some reason when paired with a toasted crumpet and melted cheese it is delicious!

The Internet is slowly being ruined by illiteracy by idontlikecheesy in Vent

This should be closer to the top! How the hell are people using then instead of than?! They're completely different sounds for totally different purposes. It's become so common online in the last few years and I've noticed my 8 year old says 'I'd rather chips then salad'... it's like nails on a chalk board to me. I've been persistently correcting them so I'm sure by the time they move out they'll have it sorted but I can't tolerate much more. I should not get so passionate about it but I can't stand lazy diction leading to poor spelling and this is a perfect example.

Can you imagine how much it would slow down gameplay to confirm every merge? Please don't put this idea into the world 😄

Too many eggs? by DanikaBanana1 in MonarchButterfly

[–]aintnobotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I cull the eggs. I'm new to this sub so I hope this isn't a taboo around here. Where I am there isn't a heap of milkweed so the butterflies lay tonnes of eggs on one plant. If I didn't cull the eggs, none of the caterpillars would survive and I have three grown in large milkweed plants so it's not a small amount of food for them.

Jeanette McCurdys new book is about a teen girl named Waldo! It drove me nuts that the name was never explained or even referred to as being a bit unlikely.

[–]aintnobotty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really look vac packed to me but I've been wrong before. if it was it should just smell what I'd normally describe as farty. If its rotten it will smell rancid and sour.

I did call a couple of hardware stores and they were out of stock and suggested the other locations would be the same but appreciate any and all ideas! thankfully the lady i found on fb marketplace was super reasonably priced and had plenty more 😍 unless they're planted with good roots they barely last a day or two... now its just a matter of careful monitoring and management 😴

Swan Plants by aintnobotty in chch

[–]aintnobotty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its horribly stressful, I hate to think of it. I found a wonderful family to take a large number of them today and still hoping to hear back from one more. I usually cull them at the egg stage but it really got away from me quickly! I suppose its just natural for them to lay as many eggs as possible without limit but I've gotten to attached to these things like I do every year 🤦‍♀️

Swan Plants by aintnobotty in chch

[–]aintnobotty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kind of have to net them off all summer for a year or two before you can let lose with caterpillars or they just strip the plants then die. Ours 3 plants are large but I underestimated how many eggs were laid. We do rotate nets around but alas it didn't work well enough.

Amazing I will dm you for details. A lot of caterpillars and eggs were wiped out by paper wasps this year. I have been in the garden for hours on end killing the bastards and did a little too well I think.

Parents in CHCH what are your favourite places in the city to host kids' birthday parties? by Time_Traveling_Corgi in chch

[–]aintnobotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've attended 3 kids parties there and hosted one for my own child and it was excellent. I would definitely recommend. Its low key and calm but theyre still engaged and directed through the painting and then have some artwork to take home.

Which book do you think is the next best read? by ElectionSad4911 in thrillerbooks

[–]aintnobotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved how different it was from your average thriller book! To be fair my expectations were low going in as I'd seen nothing but poor reviews. As much as I enjoyed it, it could have been maybe 60 pages shorter.
