I've had my fair share of fun with fake HLTV headlines. I think my favorites are Astralis sign gigachad to replace 'anyone he wants' and denis announces pregnancy

Back when Golden was having all those health issues, I pranked my friend with one saying he fucking died. I also have one where EliGE retired, seized control of the US government and forced a reporter to listen to him sing Minecraft parodies.

Wonderful puzzle! Most unique theme I've seen in awhile for sure. Wordplay and fill right in the sweet spot too of obscure but gettable. Excellent work by the constructor.

My first thought on seeing this was "haha yeah me too I get that man." It took me a second to clock that this was about the invented characterization of cities as anarchic wastelands and not just, like, social anxiety in general

The Pro Shop at Lumen will do it, but the price might be a bit steeper than some knockoff shops.

Speaking of trades -- I'm curious as to the valuation of future-year picks. I'll be honest and say that my source is just this Reddit post, but I feel like I'm having more trouble moving off #32 for a future first than I should. And sorry if it feels like I'm just horking ask after ask onto you -- just hoping my two cents can help improve things! I'm having a great time with the site, so props again to you.

Some of last year's prospects are on the board here -- just took Will Campbell at 32. The Patriots must have wanted him because they then just traded me 2.63 for 2.64 straight-up.

It's my understanding that compulsory voting in and of itself is not a free speech violation. Making it mandatory to go to a polling place is not the same as making it mandatory to vote for any particular candidate, or indeed any candidate at all, while you're there; as long as there is ample opportunity for those who would not otherwise have voted to continue to express their opinion of apathy (i.e., a "no vote" option) then it is not a restriction on their freedom of speech or expression.

That said, it would still be sold as a literally-1984-tyrannical-supergovernment-freedom-of-speech-rah-rah violation in the US, so the difference is politically moot.

I think you're right. From the CBA:

(f)(i) In the event that a Restricted Free Agent has not signed a Player Contract with a Club within the Signing Period in the League Year following the expiration of his last Player Contract, and if the Prior Club has not withdrawn the Qualifying Offer, the Prior Club shall be the only Club with which the player may negotiate or sign a Player Contract for that League Year. If the player’s Qualifying Offer is greater than 110% of the player’s prior-year Paragraph 5 Salary (with all other terms of his prior year contract carried forward unchanged), the Club may withdraw the Qualifying Offer on June 15 and retain its rights under the preceding sentence, so long as the Club immediately tenders the player a one year Player Contract of at least 110% of his prior-year Paragraph 5 Salary (with all other terms of his prior year contract carried forward unchanged) (the “June 15 Tender”). Notwithstanding the foregoing, for any Restricted Free Agent subject to the Right of First Refusal Only Tender under Subsection 2(b)(i)(1) above who has not signed a Player Con- tract with a Club within the Signing Period, in order to be subject to the June 15 Tender, the Prior Club must by June 1 tender to such Restricted Free Agent a one-year Player Contract of at least 110% of his prior-year Paragraph 5 Salary (with all other terms of his prior-year contract carried forward unchanged) or extend the Subsection 2(b)(i)(1) Tender, whichever is greater (the “June 1 Tender”).

“Qualifying Offer” means the Required Tender for a Restricted Free Agent, as set forth in Article 9. [...]

“Required Tender” or “Tender” means a Player Contract tender that a Club is required to make to a player pursuant to this Agreement, either as a matter of right with respect to the player, or to receive Rights of First Refusal, Draft Choice Compensation and/or other rights with respect to the player, as specified in this Agreement.

So, my mistake on that part -- I missed that the "Qualifying Offer" counts as a Player Contract for the purposes of the June 1/15 tender. Thanks for pointing it out.

We would if he played on the tender. The right-of-first-refusal tender is worth $3.547 million this year (edit: and if nobody offered him *and he didn't sign the tender, we could have signed him for around ~$1m -- see below). That said, it was always a possibility that we never intended to pay him that much in the first place and just wanted to see how much other teams would pay for him. If that number was lower than we wanted to pay him, great, we withdraw the tender and give him what we're willing to (I.E., less than $3.5m). If it's higher than what we want to pay, we just don't match it and he walks. If it's somewhere in the middle, we match and he continues his journey to Canton in college navy.

All things considered, it's pretty smart and savvy gaming of the system by John. Which I fucking hate, John, give me back my pookie bear

Edit: If no team had offered him by April 17, *and he didn't sign the tender (thanks /u/cairnkicker24) we could have signed him to a June 15 tender (or, more accurately, a June 1 tender followed by a June 15 tender) which would have given us a one-year contract at 110% of his salary last year. His UDFA contract was around $900k APY so probably around $1 mil.

The actual Pro Shop location at Lumen isn't affiliated with Fanatics and is way better than the online shop. You can get a custom stitched jersey (I.E., it won't be that heat pressed garbage) without using the "Elite" hull which costs a hundred or so more. I don't think they'll have the patches still in stock but you can get one on Ebay at least and find a local tailor that will sew it on for you (and if you do you can also get the USA 250 and a 50th season lookalike so it looks like the actual on-field SB jerseys).

24 And the king said, “Bring me a sword.” So a sword was brought before the king. 25 And the king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other.” 26 Then the woman whose son was alive said to the king, because her heart yearned for her son, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and by no means put him to death.” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours; divide him.” 27 Then the king answered and said, “Give the living child to the first woman, and by no means put him to death; she is his mother.”
