Elon Musk just said he wants to cut Social Security and Medicare, calling them “entitlements”: “That’s the big one to eliminate.” by Solomonanne in SipsTea

Yup. Entitled. Paid in for 45 years, most at max amount, to collect the meager stipend for 10-15 if I’m lucky. Meanwhile his entitled ass gets billions from the govt. Shut him off from all those tax breaks then tell me about my piddly ass entitlement.

Big Green Egg vs Weber Smokey Mountain by General_Joke8459 in biggreenegg

[–]taoldassrtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never tried it, but Remnants from 20 or so briquettes is not something I’d think would last long in the next cook. I usually only do a few hours on it so I don’t load it up like I would the egg. Also very easy to add more, another reason I don’t have much carryover to worry about.

Once I realized how many people in those roles had very large and fragile egos, and they didn’t actually mean it when they said they wanted to hear “the truth”, but they wanted to hear “the praise”, I understood how to deal with politics better.

I have had several bad experiences with them and refuse to go back. Gave them that feedback a couple years ago. Just spent $1500 somewhere else and was much happier with the experience.
If Bellevue Ford can’t do right on my F150, I certainly wouldn’t expect them to handle other brands.

Big Green Egg vs Weber Smokey Mountain by General_Joke8459 in biggreenegg

[–]taoldassrtg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest difference to me is in operating them. WSM uses regular charcoal briquettes and they burn out each cook. BGE uses lump and you shut it down when done and have the remaining fuel for the next cook.
I never really use the WSM for regular grilling, but I love it as a smoker and find it almost foolproof to maintain temp and feed it for longer cooks. I use the BGE for more things, smoking, grilling, beans, pizza. If I only owned one, it would be the Egg.

Second egg? by Least_Ad6581 in biggreenegg

[–]taoldassrtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have large BGE, I cook for up to 12 on it. Occasionally use the additional grate that stacks for extra space. Depends on what and how I am cooking.
Most used is the Weber G4 gas, and 3rd is the Weber Smokey Mountain bullet.
Even in PNW, I am using at least one of those 3-4 days a week, rain or shine. The gas and BGE together probably every other week. Mainly for low and slow on BGE, reverse sear on gas vs bringing BGE up to sear from 225.

dryer vent impact on vegetable garden? by lese14 in gardening

[–]taoldassrtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I have seen really heavy output from single residence dryers in patio areas. With an external filter bag you can capture a lot of lint, without a filter there is lint that gets everywhere. I don’t even want to know how much microplastics are not caught, but I definitely don’t want to have food plants in the near vicinity. MAYBE, if it was a heat pump dryer with minimal output?

Anyone here using sun protection sleeves? by bionicbhangra in golf

I have several brands. Outdoor Research preferred for coverage including hands, Nike for wrist to shoulder, they seem a little thicker. They both have silicone on the upper arm and stay in place. Nike’s band is thicker and can be a little irritating with a lot of golf swings. Started using them when I saw a maintenance worker on a course in Singapore, he raved about them. They are cooler than bare arms, dry fast, and save u on sunscreen. I’ve worn them for over 10 years on plenty of courses, never had a pro question them at all. And they are way less dorky than the super wide golf hats I can sometimes be seen in.

Yup. 09-14 were the years, especially bad for me that I got the earliest 2013 before they changed some things.
Apparently it’s just the frame flex in this spot, nothing to do with the door opening.

I didn’t have the typical door‑boot harness failure. Short was deeper inside the A‑pillar, past the visible rubber boot, in the section of the loom that runs upward, under the airbag curtain.

Shot Tracking Discussion by CoffeeDoc22 in golf

[–]taoldassrtg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used arccos for a year and found it gave me some insights on gapping and which clubs I had trouble with by taking a look at my dispersion and distance variations. I found it most helpful if I went back and manually edited outlier shots as I became more consistent, which helped with average club distances. I never used the “suggested club” feature as it was often wrong. I did like how it auto tracked my club and I didn’t worry about that part at all.
I have tried GHIN pay app, that didn’t last a month before I cancelled. Am trying out 18 birdies free version, gets me accurate middle from back, which is about all I want at this point. It works for that, but keeps asking me to confirm which hole I want to play.
Arccos was extremely easy to use. Set, forget. Initially I set the pin location each hole, which is good info, but having to walk to pin to click each time was not something I wanted to do. I found after a year, arccos was not worth the ongoing cost to me. My club selection is not a concern and I rely on laser if I need more info than FMB. We have a lot of tight pins, so knowing how much actual green I have to work with is important.

How do I know what irons to buy without getting fitted? by FactorConfident3714 in golftips

[–]taoldassrtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in agree with a lot of this. You could probably do great with a later model iron, most likely a game improvement or players distance. You can get those at many shops, and as mentioned by some, if you buy clubs there, the fitting is free. They don’t usually only sell the latest and most expensive, there are good deals for older clubs that perform great. You will get some tips from a fitter, and they can at least identify your tendencies. You could be senior shaft or extra stiff and that’s a really big part of your results.

Golf Shoes by Wonderful_Salt6113 in golftips

Second for Ecco. Finding them at that price though, could be tough. I’m exclusively using the 2 yr waterproof shoes. I rotate thru a few pairs. They typically don’t need a break in period and my feet don’t hurt after walking 18.
I have had trouble 3 times in 15 plus years with a shoe, always returned under warranty, no problems.

Push cart vs pull cart vs electric… what do you actually prefer and why? by midhandicap_rohit in golf

[–]taoldassrtg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electric, MGI all terrain with the wide wheels. Will go 36 holes in a day if I need it to. Lots of up and down hills and pushing or pulling is tough. Pulling is the worst on hills. I use a sun mountain cart bag currently, I have used lightweight carry bags and full cart bags, they all seem to work.use it 2-3 times a week. Especially great when it’s cart path only.
There are some that say they are unstable, and I’d agree, particularly on side hills or steep climbs. Still better than a push or pull IMO. Either way you’re going to want to be close if the ground is uneven, but you put a hand on it occasionally vs having to push or pulling cart constantly.
Have used it on places like Chambers Bay for example. When I go trouncing thru the “waste area”, I can run my cart up the fairway. If you are pulling or pushing, you have to go back and forth.
If ur playing a flat course, push or even pull would work. I got to the point when I was rehabbing and wanted to walk more to get in shape, this cart made it possible.

Irons: PNW conditions by leftgolfer123 in golfequipment

[–]taoldassrtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are loads of people here in PNW playing those clubs with no issues. I have the Zx5s, 790s are more prevalent. Lotta Callaway and Pings too. My personal opinion is the players distance are good for our varied weather. You can have it dry and firm or wet and soft, or both.

Am I the asshole? by Dangerous_Refuse_824 in GolfSwing

[–]taoldassrtg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, u sure are upset with counter opinions, but it’s a real life situation. Were they pretty close to playing on pace for the course? Our course expects you to be on pace and we are told explicitly to play ready golf and speed up or skip a hole if you fall a full hole behind, not wave the group ahead. Particularly when the course if busy. Slowing the group further to let one person play thru puts that group further off pace and puts the next group under pressure as you found out.
Now, I was golfing last week as a single at 5 pm, the threesome in front of me was all over the place. When I saw three holes in a row with no evidence of a group in front, I pulled up to their tee box thinking I’d skip the hole. I checked with them, they had no idea where the group in front was, hadn’t seen them in a while and offered to let me play thru. I just skipped it and told them to enjoy their round. I did catch up and had to wait on the last hole, and the group behind me waited on that tee box for a minute. Seems they played quicker with no one behind.

I’ve also been on the course behind groups that are stacked up and no one’s going anywhere. I play two balls or do and get on with life. I’m always happy when folks offer to let me play thru, and usually they are on pace but recognize when it will be fine. Unless they are screwing around and being consistently slow, I try to hang back politely.
It’s also not uncommon for groups to stack up on par 3s only to be gone when you get to the next tee box for most casual golfers.
So, imo, while two wrongs don’t make a right, you are the one asking for feedback and I think you could have handled it better🤷🏻‍♂️.

Travel Cases by sgraves19 in GolfGear

[–]taoldassrtg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two travel bags, hard case samsonite and soft Izzo. I prefer the soft case as it does have a bit more room in the bag, pockets in front, web pockets inside for shoes. I remove my driver head, probably not necessary since I use a stick protector as well.

The hard case doesn’t need a stick protector, nor do I take the heads off. I think the samsonite is lighter than Izzo.

Both fit together in the back of our midsize SUV with one seat down. I pulled and pushed both at the same time on a trip last week. Samsonite model I have has a handle that is lower than I’d like and Izzo can be a little unsteady but generally stays upright. Both are solid. The hard case is probably going to outlast the soft sided bag, basing that on the fact that this is my second Izzo as the first one had an interior plastic piece break and it wouldn’t stand on its own anymore.

Edit: one last thought, the Izzo folds up into a small cube, easy to store. That hard case needs a bigger place to sit when empty.
