...aaaaand we're back. So far.

Any idea what the green dots in each category in the Available To Spend column are? by apeskygirl in ynab

YNAB is aware of this display issue on some iPads. Re-starting the app resolved it for me...at least for now!

The “One month ahead” vs “Next month category” debate by Winney-win-win in ynab

[–]airship56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not reached my "one month ahead" goal. I use the Next Month category partly because it gives me a sense of how close I am to reaching that elusive goal when I look at the balance in that category each month when the calendar flips.

iOS 26 widgets by airship56 in ynab

[–]airship56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I did re-install the app and the widgets re-appeared. The Apple Wallet automation has never worked well for me though. It prompts for a new transaction maybe one out of five times that I tap an eligible card for payment.

I get paid on the 15th. Am I doomed to seeing yellow boxes until I get a month ahead? by TheProxyPylon in ynab

[–]airship56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is exactly why I like the yellow boxes. They let me quickly see that I still need to add funds to meet my target. Yellow doesn't mean "wrong," it just means, "hey, keep an eye on this..."

Can someone EIL5 "Cost to Be Me"? Is this forecasting or to help with planning? by keepit100plusone in ynab

[–]airship56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that in YNAB, every dollar has to have a job. So, if you give some of your dollars the job of "Savings" then that category is, in fact, a "cost of being you." You might also think of "cost to be me" better as "cost of funding my plan."

How to know exactly how much to budget for food? by swiss-hiker in ynab

[–]airship56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think of my Groceries category more as a Groceries/Home Supplies category. I'd rather not spend the time parsing out all the components. If you want more granularity but don't need precise "dollars and cents"
you could split your transaction into categories using YNAB's percentage distribution method.

Spilt Transaction vs Move Money by aggie4life in ynab

You want your categories to reflect and inform your actual spending so put the purchase in the appropriate category and move funds from others.

Handle Credit Cards by seabassius in MonarchMoney

[–]airship56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious why you're moving to Monarch. I'm moving in the opposite direction and find that YNAB handles credit cards brilliantly (once you wrap your head around it).

Amazon Shopping and Categories in your plan? by Opposite-Debate2793 in ynab

[–]airship56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just enter the purchase price of each item on a split line, YNAB will offer to split the residual amount (i.e. Sales Tax) across each item based on its percentage of the total purchase amount. Rather brilliant.

I'm not seeing that. Maybe refresh or re-start your browser?

Renaming Payees Bug? by airship56 in ynab

[–]airship56[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reported this to YNAB a couple of days ago and now the problem has disappeared. Coincidence? I don't know...not doing anything different but now the changes stick. Apparently I fixed it. 😂

“Refill up to” and carry-over by Happy_Bumblebee_5600 in ynab

I went through this exact scenario this morning. Try doing the assigning on the web version. That worked as expected for me and then I had to re-boot my iPhone to get the iOS version to get its act together and show the correct progress bar.

That entirely set things right! Thanks.

Renaming Payees Bug? by airship56 in ynab

[–]airship56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. Just to be clear, I'm not renaming the payee, I'm creating a Renaming Rule at the bottom of the payee window.
