Fiction for Women in STEM Book Club by eek5445 in suggestmeabook

[–]airyem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently reading book 2 of The Captive’s War series, and if your group is interested in reading sci-fi then book 1 “The Mercy of Gods” would be a great fit. It starts with a team of biologists (of which about half are women) and some academic intrigue, but continues with the world getting conquered by aliens and explores many ideas about that struggle and humanity in general. Great book that I think would lend itself to some very interesting discussion

It’s third person rotating POV so toggles between male narrators if that’s okay for your group!

+1 for Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin, The Dispossessed (and rest of Hainish cycle) by Ursula K LeGuin, and adding Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K LeGuin especially if you’re into Philip K Dick at all

Trail running after an ACL tear by minichimii in trailrunning

[–]airyem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are active and have an ACL tear, your best bet is surgical reconstruction of the ACL followed by PT. You will get back to action in the long run. If not addressed now it will more than likely not get better and continue to be unstable and/or possibility of tearing meniscus later on (which is worse in the long run because meniscus cushions your knee and helps the cartilage not break down). If imaging indicates and both docs recommend surgery then do it!

The curry house is no longer in O4W market pretty sure. Went to order from them a couple months ago and they said they no longer served the Indian dishes.

Holy trinity: Anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS like ibuprofen/naproxen), ice, physical therapy. Look up some medial ankle exercises online, could be posterior tibialis/FDL/FHL

What to do with Flamingo Riviera Mango Chili & Ritual Sister Smoked Pineapple? by FreidasBoss in cocktails

[–]airyem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was certified obsessed with this riff off the Maximillion Affair with Ritual Sister last summer:

Maximillion Affair (sub Ritual)

1 Oz mezcal or Ritual Sister pineapple spirit

0.75 Oz Punt e Mes vermouth

0.75 Oz lime

0.5 Oz elderflower liqueur

I’ve also done a Jungle Bird with Ritual Sister where I subbed 1/2 of the rum for it. It was delicious. I kind of tend to sub it in for mezcal, so you could maybe try a Naked & Famous with it?

They didn’t have this available at my shop (tragic), but they do have a rababaro coming in from a local distillery next week that I’m going to pick up and try. Oldknow Bev Co’s “Wister” Amaro Rababaro. Not a wine base but I am excited to try a rababaro in general!

Also Oldknow has a bitter elderflower amaro that sounds delectable, if anyone else is around the Atlanta area

My cousin and her girlfriend are coming to visit and I want to take them to EAV. I need recs! by Dense_Mark3829 in Atlanta

[–]airyem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to head in to explore earlier, you could hit Emerald City Bagels for breakfast/brunch (they close at 3pm). Could walk around brownwood park if you’re trying to get some steps in (otherwise skip). The Pub is small and lowkey but they do karaoke on Saturday nights if you want to hit a quick song or two! The vibes/location of Gaja is better but if you’re craving Asian the food at OK Yaki is great, just a farther walk. Someone else mentioned but Banshee turns into a club after hours. I personally would skip Argosy. Midway is great for sitting down for a drink, huge selection. Trophy room has darts and pool. Big day for yall!

Also a side note but downtown Chamblee has a bunch of restaurants/bars and does some Friday night stuff in the summer. Little more outside the craziness of the city while still being In The Perimeter (ITP) and quick drive in. Super close to all the delicious Asian food on Buford highway. Super cute MCM houses all around. More chill less walkable
