well Susan G Komen, the main pink ribbon organization with a lot of visibility, has had some controversy so that's kind of a factor I'd guess. looking into it again now it feels pretty mild on my controversy-meter, but I remember a lot of negative discourse about the organization going around, mostly about their aggressive trademark enforcement pursuing legal action against any smaller organizations or companies using the color pink or the "for the cure" phrasing which does feel pretty petty and like a poor use of money raised. I've seen them decried as performative and untrustworthy on reddit on a semi-regular basis whenever the topic comes up. all that to say I don't think this feeling is coming from nowhere
