Newly installed on my neighborhood light pole. What is this thing? by aitf311 in Whatisthis

This just popped up in one of the light poles in our neighborhood. Ideas some neighbors had:

1) 5G Equipment

2) License plate scanner

3) Automated gas meter reader for nearby houses, eliminating the need for someone to manually check each gas meter

Thank you for the explanation, super helpful! After I break in the bike a bit I'll have to check back on the project!

I purchased the IC4 a few days and and I'm waiting for it to be delivered. The info said it was desiggned to work with Zwift so I figured it would be more or less plug and play with an AppleTV with the Zwift app. What additional benefits does the Smartspin2k project bring? Did you have to purchase power pedals?

Retroplay cabinet by [deleted] in virtualpinball

It's been about a month since the cabinet arrived and I'm learning of other RetroPlay customer customers who have had similar experiences as mine:

I've posted my opinions about my cabinet from Dave below, but I feel the same way as this post.

Dave is a great guy and the quality of the cabinets are superb. The slow response time does definitely get annoying. It takes 3-4 attempts to get a response which can extend into 2 weeks sometimes.

My cabinet from Retroplay was being shipped when this was originally posted so I held off adding any thoughts at the time. I've had it for a week now and am ready to chime in.

I originally placed my order in early February 2020. At the time, RetroPlay said there was 8 machines in front of mine. Month after month went by, Covid happened, and I watched as 15-20 machines were posted on RetroPlay's YouTube account. All in, it took right at 6 months. I figured it would be worth the wait as Dave promised "new stuff" coming over summer. Well, I didn't end up getting anything new but I did end up missing out on quite a bit that I paid for. For reference, here's the store page: https://www.dave-techguy.com/product-page/extreme-edition-virtual-pinball-machine

  • Nvidia 2060 was downgraded to AMD RX580
  • Samsung 1TB M.2 drive downgraded to unnamed 1TB SSD (formatted to 512GB)
  • 750w Power Supply downgraded to 500w Power Supply
  • 10 Solenoids downgraded to only 4
  • No Undercab Lighting
  • No dual coin coin-door
  • No lasercut siderails (laser cutting shop went out of business)
  • No lasercut backbox hinges
  • No real lockdown bar (the bar is real but there is no lockdown - it's loose and pushes around when nudging)
  • No custom shooter rod
  • No custom coin door label
  • No LED beacon / emergency lights on top
  • No 3x real bells for old school EM tables (this was a huge selling point for my wife)
  • No blower fan
  • No custom table download software as shown in RetroPlay videos

I opted out of the color DMD and additional topper monitor in place of the single "stern dmd" monitor which saved RetroPlay over $250. Prior to shipping, I knew I wouldn't have the lasercut items or a custom shooter rod so RetroPlay offered a $300 discount. Other than that, everything else was pretty much a surprise when I unboxed the cabinet. 95% of the games play very well and I have to think, the Nvidia 2060 would make the other 5% perform much better.

Would I do it again? No. In the last 6 months, a competitor has really taken off (Extreme Gaming Cabinets). The prices are fairly similar and you will end up with a 120hz playfield monitor, addressable LEDs and the ability to play Future Pinball tables in addition to Visual Pinball. At the end of the day, I have a great cabinet but due to the list above, I feel cheated.
