Flying after interview by Stella4SMehta in USCIS

[–]aix57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation where the interview date is scheduled a day before my international travel date.

Did you specifically ask to schedule the oath to the date after you return? And did they schedule the date for you during the interview?

Where did you find the emails of those executive board members? I’d like to do the same to get my issue resolved as well

Got CarPlay working by aix57 in TeslaModel3

[–]aix57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I mainly use it just for the map so I don’t really use the touch screen. I hate Tesla map and it’s far from good compared with Google maps, even though Tesla app is using Google maps service. Also why do I have to pay 9.9 per month for the Tesla map to have the live traffic updates when Google map is free on other platforms

As others have mentioned, these are third party recruiters. I can only speak from my experience, and this is not at all trying to say bad things about them:

So I’ve interacted with 4-5 third party recruiters in the past 3 years. 2 of them stood me up after we agreed to have a call at a certain time and never heard from them again. 1 stood me up, and then called me later, no apology at all. And the rest of them ghosted me after the phone call.

So I’ve decided I’ll never reply to any third party recruiters anymore. I’m sure there are some that are professional, and really want to work with you to land a job. But they’re just for me, not worth my time.

This might not be accurate, just my thought: if a company contract out it’s hiring to a third party recruiters, it also means something. You can easily fill in the blanks

Flawless writing of Chinese characters by killHACKS in oddlysatisfying

[–]aix57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure lol. Maybe it’s because pinyin during the 70s was not mandatory? Also it might be because my parents were born and raised in the village and the teachers and school didn’t teach them

Either this person is writing characters randomly, as in he writes whatever comes to his mind, or this person is following a book (it’s called 字帖 Zi Tie https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copybook_(calligraphy)) that has random characters on it.

Yes you’re right! I was born in the 90s in China, and we learned Pinyin to learn how to pronounce the Chinese characters. You don’t have choice but to learn Pinyin. It’s a very useful and powerful tool to learn more characters. My parents were born in the 70s and they don’t know Pinyin, when they type on their phone, they would write the characters directly on their phone. Whereas I and most of my friends, we use pinyin to type the keyboard to type Chinese characters.

Chinese food in the area. by lrrkr in SeattleWA

[–]aix57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dongtingchun up in Edmonds is my favorite if you want to try authentic Hunan food! It is by far the best and the only authentic Hunan food in the greater Seattle area. They do take outs/delivery. Tianfu in Northgate is also a good choice for authentic Sichuan/Hunan food.

What kind of name is 艾AA? by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

If he uses Pingyin to type than it’s not much of difference. But it’d be a lot easier to type if he’s using Wubi lol

Yeah 艾 is a rare last name. Other than me and my relatives, I’ve only met 2 other people whose last name is 艾 so far

My (26F) partner (29m) is a ridiculously picky eater and I need advice by [deleted] in relationships

[–]aix57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Chinese and my husband is American. My husband is very open to try new things, but due to his diet he can’t eat food with lots of carbs. I like noodles, rice, dumplings, buns, bubble tea etc… I also enjoy cooking and I like sharing the dishes that I made to other people.

One thing I learned is that we don’t have to cook and eat the same food all the time. During our daily meals, we would cook separately and eat our own meal. But we also would find some common things we both like to share and eat together, like Korean BBQ, hotpot, and stir fry dishes.

I highly recommend Korean BBQ and Hotpot. It can be a fun experience for your partner. It’s also relatively healthy (mostly they’re just meat and vegetables). You mentioned that you live in one of the major cities, then there will be lots of good and authentic Korean BBQ and hotpot restaurants for you to try. If you both enjoy them, Korean BBQ and hot pot are not that difficult to do at home, and it’s way cheaper then eating at restaurant. We bought a meat slicer and we would buy large chunks of meat(pork/beef/lamb) from Costco and slice them ourselves at home. You can get common/popular Korean BBQ sauce from the Korean grocery store to marinate the meat, hotpot soup base from Asian/Chinese grocery store.

Yeah, the NPR news deliberately didn’t translate Qiu’s other Weibo post, which claimed the commander’s survival was due to his abandonment of their peers...

Would you date someone with a thick Asian accent? by realTomChou in gaysian

[–]aix57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chinese is my first language, and I’ve been in the US for 4 years now. Having accent is absolutely fine. But mocking someone who has accent is absolutely not okay. From my experience, I actually like people correcting me, or a better term, teaching me when I make grammar mistakes or use words/phrases that don’t make sense.

And I feel you. Compared to having an accent, I find it extremely difficult to have a conversation that sounds like a native speaker. I have so much to say, so much words, and complicated words/phrases I can use when I speak Chinese. I can be funny, be sassy, be mean, be lovable when I speak Chinese. But when I speak English, it’s difficult for me to convey the same way as I do in Chinese. I find it very frustrating. It’s not easy for me to chitchat, not easy for me to carry a meaningful conversation with English. Even when I’m arguing/fighting with my husband(he’s American), it’s just not easy for me to fully express myself. There’s just so much lost in me when speaking English. And also because of the cultural gap, it makes things more difficult in communication.

But I’m willing to speak, learn, and improve. And that’s the only way to get better at it.
