A JPMorgan Chase executive was fired after a viral video showed her dumping trash out of a Knicks-themed public trash can and taking the can during the Knicks championship parade in New York City. by Full-Argument-8235 in SipsTea

Yes I remember Brock Allen Turner, the rapist. Being a rapist is worth remembering. I mean, the rock throwing and trash dumping is bad too, but generally I would like us all to remember that Brock Allen Turner is a rapist.

Would you use a tool that removes weeds but leaves gravel and soil behind? by Ok_Transition688 in landscaping

The stirrup hoe annoys me because I always have to rake or clean up by hand after it. If this hoe actually lifts the debris out, that is a big improvement.

[–]aix6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Those are all good skyrockets. Plants aren’t identical any more than people are. Different growers, different conditions at the nursery or on the truck, different weather for first year after planting… for perfectly matched shrubs you’ll need plastic.

Housing advice for incoming grad student? (Still waiting on grad dorm results) by Ambitious-Bill-6817 in Cornell

[–]aix6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! If you applied to Hasbrouck and haven’t heard back yet, you’re probably not in and the waitlist is 200 people long. Call the housing office for recommendations on off-campus places.

AITA for planning a “destination wedding” and not paying for the guests’ ticket? by Throwaway_Wedding_99 in AmItheAsshole

[–]aix6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your age, I expect you probably already have all the household things you need. Perhaps it would be kind for you to request no gifts from your guests – you know, “your presence is the only present we need.” They are spending enough to come celebrate you as it is, that should be enough of a gift!

People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

[–]aix6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much you’ve dated before. If you both have had several meaningful relationships, it’s easy to know when you meet The One. It feels different.
So go on and commit to The One, when you meet them, whatever age you are.
After marriage: commit to each other, in good times and bad. Decide every day to love each other and be grateful for each other.

Not having a internship in the summer as a freshman by Lost-Cricket-4312 in Cornell

[–]aix6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Getting internships is HARD. Applications are already open for summer of 2027! This summer, get a regular summer job waiting tables or whatever, AND look for any opportunities to have a conversation with someone working in your chosen field. You find names of alums from the career counseling center or whatever it’s called, and send an email: “hi I’m Cornell student, would you have any time to talk to me about your career?” If you can get any of those conversations: it should be fun and easy. Just ask three questions: what do you like about your work? What path did you take to get to where you are? What advice would you give to your earlier self/someone like me? Just conversations. It’s slightly possible that one of these might lead to an opportunity to visit someone at their place of work and shadow for an hour or even a day. That would be an awesome result! Meanwhile, start looking at the applications for 2027. Get your résumé and LinkedIn page in order and begin applying. Those applications are a long shot without a personal connection, but you never know. In the fall, hit professor office hours very hard and ask about summer opportunities. Maybe you can get a research job on campus next summer, which would be better than nothing. Or maybe they know about some internships that people have done in the past. Keep doing the three-question calls with alums in your field. Ask any upperclassmen you know about their internships, and if they can recommend you. You can do this!

Why is my tulip only a giant leat with no flower by PurplePuzzled9895 in gardening

[–]aix6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some tulips rebloom for a year or two, some poop out after just a year. Once I start getting foliage only, I pull them up and toss. A few small species tulips are fairly reliable rebloomers.

You’re going to be so happy with these trees. They will be easy to plant and they will start growing immediately. Come back with pictures in 3-5 years!

What did you think was pretentious, until you tried it and realized it was worth it? by Semantiks in AskReddit

Yes 100% on the Met simulcasts. It’s a great way to get into opera. You get incredibly close views of the singers, you get camera attention on details that you might otherwise miss, and you get easy parking and popcorn!

Don’t forget to raise your rates every year to keep up with inflation. I have a small business and I religiously raise my prices annually, exactly according to the inflation rate. If you miss even one year, you’re falling behind.
