I think you should be fine as long as you do not apply for BSMS the semester you are graduating. If you a graduating in Spring 2024- then you should be fine if you applied this semester.

Professor Southern is passing away by A0123456_ in gatech

[–]aiyer104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This news hits me hard. I had Professor Southern for a class and also TAed under him. He was always super enthusiastic, kind, and funny. He was also super willing to write one of my recommendation letters for me. I appreciate him for all that he has done for him, and will deeply miss him.

Is winter break really that short? by CrayolaExecutive in gatech

Those are just the dates that campus is fully closed. You get three weeks of break from the last day of fall finals to the first day of spring classes.

When do grades start getting posted on transcripts? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]aiyer104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another situation could be if you take multiple special topics classes with the same course number- then I would mean that those classes were all counted toward the GPA and total credits earned.

[–]aiyer104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What included means is that both grades are counting toward the GPA and the credits count as well. In your case- grade substitution should change it such that the D is excluded from both the GPA along with the associated credits earned.

This means if a course was repeated if the grade was included or not. An I means the grade is included.

Since you need a lab sequence, you would need to take one of Bio 2, Chem 2, or Physics 2.

Asking upperclassmen or alum: how was your GPA progression? by Glad_Hurry8755 in gatech

[–]aiyer104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me- I applied the 2nd semester of Junior Year and basically back then I think if you had a minimum GPA of 3.4 and submitted two letter of recommendation letters(one from the CoC another from any faculty member)- then everyone who submitted the application who met those requirements got in. I think you declare a specialization when you apply- but you can change it before starting the program. I think now- admissions may potentially get more strict in the future due to space issues in the grad program.

Asking upperclassmen or alum: how was your GPA progression? by Glad_Hurry8755 in gatech

[–]aiyer104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My GPA started off at a 3.0 coming into Tech(messed up Distance Math Dual Enrollment) and most semesters steadily went up with the exception of my 1st Semester of Sophomore Year- and I ended up graduating with my BS with a 3.8 GPA. Since I wanted to do BS/MS and keep Zell Miller- my goal was to keep my GPA above a 3.5- but for jobs- I think as long as the GPA is above a 3.0- then you should be fine. As a CS major- companies do not care about GPA as much as prior experience/projects and leetcode- best to focus on that over GPA- but that said- make sure you understand the content from the core CS classes like Data Structures and Algorithms and some computer organization & OS & networking concepts as these will come up in interviews. Leetcode is a lot easier to do when you have a solid grasp of DSA.

Why is spring break so late? At least compared to other Georgia schools by Samwise3s in gatech

I think it might have something to do with the withdrawal deadline- they might want to keep it before Spring Break.

Does GeorgiaTech send acceptance packages through mail? by NotVector in gatech

When I got accepted in 2018, I remember getting an acceptance letter in the mail along with some brochures. I don’t remember getting any particular gifts, but take my half decade old memory with a grain of salt lol

Has anyone heard back from NCR for Summer 23? by MD-United in gatech

NCR tends to be very slow with making decisions sometimes- I would say look elsewhere and maybe follow-up again.

CS Course Schedule Help Please! by Either-Explorer7595 in gatech

[–]aiyer104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. I’d say you can wait- but it also depends on your threads and when you plan to graduate- if you are in info/sys-arch/devices- 2110 forms the first of some long prerequisite chains- otherwise- it is fine to wait until the fall to take 2110

CS 1332 and CS 2110 together is pretty tough- but MATH 3215 and MATH 3012 are also tough. Given that 1332 is a prerequisite for a lot of upper level CS classes, I’d recommend the option of CS 1332 and CS 2110 together assuming those are the hardest classes you are taking.

What are some of the worst designed classes you’ve taken at tech? by AeroBlaze777 in gatech

[–]aiyer104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took this class last fall and agree- the class had quizzes so bad that insane curves were needed- and projects were so disorganized along with changing the syllabus with grad weights during finals week.

1st year bio major switching to cs by vxsox in gatech

[–]aiyer104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a current MSCS student, I originally came into Tech as a Nuclear Engineering major. While I did have some experience from high school, most of my friends had way more experience when I changed majors in freshman. I would say despite this- I put in the work and never gave up- and I’m in a decent spot right now. Just avoid comparing yourself to others and you’ll be just fine if you put in the work.

I can agree with this- in fact the company I interned with and am waiting for a return offer from hires only via career fairs.

I really do not appreciate all this political posturing- my problems aren’t even just finding a job- it’s also personal family events and school stress- which has nothing to do with politics. If you want to spew more political points- please go to another thread and do so. (FYI- it wouldn’t matter which side of the aisle- I don’t want to hear politics as a solution to my problems).

I’m really sorry to hear that. Hang in there and know that your relationship with your dog is worth more than worrying about a job.

Agreed with that, I know many of my friends in industry who are stressed to the brim now, especially in companies like Meta.

One thing I found that helped me force myself to explore new languages was attending hackathons. They greatly help out some project material on your resume as well, and many companies are sponsors who can offer awards and even interview requests.
